Dino Attack Regional Differences
blueandwhite replied to MattZitron's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This is something I long thought is silly, germans are addicted to violence: you can switch on the radio anytime on the day and hear a novel about a murder, explained into detail, you can watch tv and you will sooner or later run into a horror flick. Still, strong moral panic is taking place elsewere; FPS games are forbidden and Lego cant do as they want. Germans are strange. I think its because of the lack of spiky helmets. ;) Its called sensorship >:( . For some reason, some people feel that younger persons will be strongly influenced by violent images or themes. Often, politicians make build their platform arround the protection of youth, promoting sensorship in a variety of children's media (videogames, toys, cartoons etc.). These same people assume that sensorship will somehow work, despite making violent or graphic content for adult audiences. Of course, children will be exposed to this content, making the aforementioned sensorship pretty much moot. What really irks me though, is the fact that most children would develop far better if their parents were more involved in their lives, rather than worrying about government sensorship. If you don't want your child exposed to these themes, remove the elements you feel are violent. The real problem here is, we don't need corporations or governments providing sensorship. We need responsible parents. Heck, most of these anti-violence campaigns smack of hypocrisy anyways. Your parents probably played with toy guns and the like when they were children. Later. -

I'm going to muster up all my Citizen powers and try to work up a banning! Please, everyone...I require complete silence to execute the ritual! (draws an arcane symbol on the floor with Megabloks and sits in the middle of it chanting) Ohwattanassiam! Ohwattanassiam! Ohwattanassiam! I was about to say... >_> Just an observation: The Quote box continues to get smaller with each subsequent quote. This of course brings us to a fascinating question: If you continue to quote ad nauseam, what happens to the quote box? Does it shrink out of existence, or does it have some limit as to how narrow it might get? Later.

No, not really. You said, and I quote: "If they just have the Batman lisence it wouldn't work like that" Your statement, though to the point, really doesn't provide any explanation for this assertion. Several subsequent posts suggest that not everybody understood the reasoning behind your statement (which you never provided, I might add). Posts by Dark1 and Kikuichimomji suggest that some posters still don't appreciate that a licence to use Batman is not a licence to use all things DC. I simply responded to these posts. Later.

Why would we get Superman in a Batman set? It isn't Marvel vs. Capcom or something like that :P And besides, even if they would only give us one single Superman MF in one single set, they would still have to pay for the entire license. TLC isn't stupid, they'll either give us an entire Superman line or nothing at all. UMMM they are both DC Superheros. That would be awsome if they did make JLA legos. :oD UMMMM NO! Licencing doesn't work like that. LEGO either has licence to use Batman and related properties, or in the alternative, they have a licence to use the complete pantheon of DC characters. Right now, it looks like this licence is limited to Batman. Sure, its possible that the licence may go further than what has already been revealed to the public. On the other hand, simply because LEGO has obtained licence to use Batman doesn't automatically grant them licence over any other DC intellectual property. Licencing agreements are usually very strict. In short, unless DC has expressly granted LEGO licence over other non-Batman characters, I wouldn't expect to see Superman anytime soon. Of course, if this line does well, its entirely possible that LEGO and DC might explore that option. Later.

Really? So they have complete licence to use all of DC's properties? If so, that is quite impressive! Still, I'm not all that interested in the rest of the DCU. When it comes to Superheroes, Batman is the one with all the cool toys. He just makes more sense from a builder's point of view. Cars, planes, boats, subs, helecopters etc... Batman has it all! The vehicle is as important as the character. With Superman (or the Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc.), the character is the only highlight. Any vehicle is simply an overpriced accessory that could easily be placed in another product line. With Batman, his vehicles are uniquely his own. I liked the Spiderman sets, but I also appreciate that the only standout features were the figs themselves. Everything else would have been just as appropriate in the City line. Still, I suppose a JLA set, not unlike the Arkham set wouldn't be too bad. Later.

Usually, I prefer the grey & black Batman (comics and such), but here I prefer the black one. The over-sized Bat-helmet isn't as noticeable on the black variant. Still, does anybody else wish for a blue and grey Batman? I want to MOC the 60s Lincoln Futura Batmobile, but it just isn't the same without blue and grey 'Adam West' Batman. Still, I'm only getting the Batwing and Batmobile (and possibly Arkham), so I'll settle for whatever 'Batmen' I get. Later.

Is this on all the sets you saw in Enfield, or just the Batman ones? Enquiring minds need to know. Later.

Dino Attack Regional Differences
blueandwhite replied to MattZitron's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I wonder what the situation with Batman's going to be, what with the tommy guns and such. If LEGO is so opposed to violent themes in Europe, will Batman be neutered like the Dino line? Can you imagine if Europe doesn't get Batman, or at the very least, they get the sets without the weapons. I actually don't buy into this anti-violence stance LEGO is taking. Afterall, they sell Vikings with Axes, Swords and Spears who are trying to slaughter a number of mythical beasts. How is that any less violent than the Dino lines? And the guns from the Western line certainly fly in the face of LEGO's position. Well, I hope for the sake of European fans, Batman isn't neutered in order to maintain LEGO's anti-gun/modern warfare policy. Later. -
Nope! :-D The size of the helmet actually has more to do with the material used than with a feature. The feature I'm talking about ... well ... focus on the eyes... It sounds like your implying that there is some sort of lens that covers the opening in the mask. In otherwords, you can make your Batman look like he does in the comics, with white eyes, or as he does in the movies, with his eyes being visible through the cowl. Regardless of the feature, I'm still not sold on his mask. I'll have to wait until spring to make a final call. Later.

Looking at the names of the various sets, I notice that the following villians aren't featured: Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, and the Riddler. I suspect that if there is going to be a minifig pack, they will be featured there. I'm really excited about the minifigs, but some of the sets seem pretty dull. The Batboat in particular looks weak. A few minifig packs would be great. Later.
-
Two things. - The return of a classic-castle theme (as opposed to the science fantasy theme we currently have). I don't care if they continue KKII, so long as we see something more traditional. -Minifig packs. Sure, there is a great City pack, but I would love to see some minifig packs for other themes. Amassing Castle armies, or Stormtroopers is simply too expensive! How about a few basic packs, leaving the more unique figs for the larger sets. I understand that LEGO doesn't want minifig sales eating into the sales of the big sets, but if the packs only provided you with basic troops, you would think that the sets would still sell. Later.

Well, if the Bat-helmet really has a visor, you can bet its going to be mighty popular with the castle crowd. I can already see alot of Bat/Wolf themed knights wearing this thing. Still, as far as Batman goes, the cowl is far too big for my liking. I mean, its wider than his torso :o ! I won't make a final decision on him until I get him in my grubby hands, but right now he is looking pretty weak. Later.

Well, I've got mixed feelings about this one. Just about every character, from Tim Drake to Nightwing looks great... except for BATMAN!! That Bat-helmet looks ridiculous. Its far thicker than any other LEGO helmet we've seen. It just doesn't look good. Heck, even Catwoman is ok (not great, but ok). When the title character is the worst of the lot, you know something went wrong. I think LEGO would have been better off to make a unique head for Batman, rather than the Bat-helmet. He's going to be in every set afterall. Still, Scarecrow looks amazing! The Batfan in me loves what I see, but I really hope Batman gets a new head sculpt next year. The funny thing is, I think that Robin looks to be the best of the lot! Later.

Actually, there are alot of fantastic Batmobiles on Brickshelf! Just do a search using Brickshelf's search function. Later.

Why do so many of you hate Bionicle?
blueandwhite replied to gollum 66's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Actually, your position was that most people on Eurobricks hate Bionicle. I still stand by my position that most people here simply don't care either way. Sure, there are a few vocal critics. That sort of negative diatribe is generally limited to fanatics rather than the fandom as a whole. But honestly, do you expect everybody here to espouse their undying love for Bionicle? Bionicle is simply too different for many fans. Your really blowing this thing out of proportion. Simply because you love Bionicle doesn't mean that other LEGO fans hold the same view. And just because many fans don't share your passion, doesn't mean they hate Bionicle either. Whether you accept this is entirely up to you. Later. -

Hey, I like the goggles. Later.

I occasionally post on Lugnet (rarely would be more accurate). I frequently post on Classic-Castle, however it gets pretty slow. I've also found that the audience has gotten quite a bit younger (too young for my tastes). Still, it never hurts to drop in from time to time. I'm also a Transformers fan, but I don't really post on any particular Transformer forum. For the most part, I find fandoms to be too fickle. No matter who you deal with, there's always that one fanatic who ruins it for you (ironically, when it comes to LEGO, I'm probably that guy). Generally, my biggest issue internet with forums is that everybody wants to be heard, but nobody wants to listen. Its too bad, as a number of forums would be more lively if there more thoughtful conversations. Later.

Another Reason Lego is Better Then Mega Bloks
blueandwhite replied to LegoLover's topic in Community
As the article mentioned, this was a freak accident. After all, who would have forseen the possibility of two injested magnets pulling a child's intestines together. There are many other toys which make use of small magnets. I would hate it if US child-safety laws made it illegal to sell such toys. Heck, most of the toys I had when I was a child wouldn't pass today's safety laws, yet they were pretty cool (my Optimus Prime had long smokestacks, and my Megatron was a Gun). This was an accident, but that's all it was (in my opinion at the very least). Later. -
Very nice. The Batmobile looks to be inspired by the Burtonmobile from the 1989 movie (as does the all-black batman). Two-Face looks a bit odd, but is certainly recognizable. This set looks to contain alot of decent pieces. The Batmobile looks great, but is a bit oversized (the thing is 4x the size of Two-Face's van :o ). I can see batman's cowl (helmet), becoming popular with Castle builders who anjoy fantasy. Overall, I like what I see. A definite purchase. Later.

I think you might be confusing 'talent' with 'skill'. Skills are abilities developed through practice. Most anybody can improve their abilities in this manner. Talent is a special aptitude or natural ability. Simply put, talent is not something you can learn. A person with a particular talent will generally be able to further his or her skills at a faster rate than a person who lacks that talent. He or she will also be able to achieve feats above a person of no extrodinary aptitude. That is not to say that all talent is properly developed. The point is, you can improve your skill level, but the degree of improvement will be marked by your talent. Take this analogy into consideration: A Honda Civic can be tuned, and rebuilt into something faster, and more agile than the stock original, but underneath it will always be a Civic. It will never handle as well as a thuroughbread sports car. Much in the same way, many people will pursue a sport, or take up an insturment, however few will master such an undertaking. Now, if you don't take my word for it, I suggest taking a look at your Oxford Dictionary (or rough equivilant). Unfortunately, talent is something that cannot be learned. Later.

Why do so many of you hate Bionicle?
blueandwhite replied to gollum 66's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Of course, when the thread asks "why do so many of you hate Bionicle?", it seems rather silly to 'keep away'. In all likelihood, I wouldn't have posted in this forum had the question not been asked. I respect that you like Bionicle, but this question was open to other fans as well. Later. -
He wouldn't be the only one :( . Still considering that his carrier is far from complete, the lack of classic grey must be killing him. Its getting hard to find basic bricks on bricklink at a good price! As for the carrier, it looks great. Later.

Time can be managed, and bricks can be bought, but talent is something your born with *viki* (I wish I had a little more of it)! These are some wonderful MOCs. Later.

Why do so many of you hate Bionicle?
blueandwhite replied to gollum 66's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Well, I am one of those "brick purists". And yes, for me LEGO and Bionicle are two separte things. Still, I don't 'hate' Bionicle. Much like technic, I am simply indifferent to it. Heck, on occasion I may use a few technic/boinicle elements to enhance a MOC. I can also appreciate that some fans won't even go that far. Its all relative. I think the word 'hate' is often misused by fans to describe persons who don't share their enthusiasm. We each have our preferences in life, and it seems natural that we should want others to share them with. Unfortunately, this often leads to overenthusiasm or unnecessary hostility. Fans often mistake indifference with distain. I'm glad that Bionicle has its fanbase, just as I am pleased that people building models with technic to be enjoyable. The truth is, there are fanatics on both sides of the fence. Those individuals fail to appreciate that their opinions are not the opinions of others, yet they persist in a futile attempt to impose their will on the fandom at large. I may not share your views, or the views of many others, but that does not make them any less valid. At the same time, Bionicle fans shouldn't feel put off by my position, or the position of other so-called "brick purists" (we exist in varying forms). If someone doesn't like Bionicle, that is their choice. Remember, a person's reasons for disliking something can be just as valid as your reasons for liking that same something. Its only when the fan becomes fanatical, and trys to impose his or her views on others that problems arise. (Ironically, I am a huge fan of G1 (well up to the movie at any rate)). Later.
