  1. Talk about expensive! $5.00 for one minifig?! After sales tax that's pushing towards $6.00! Right now I have one impulse and that impulse is to save my money.
  2. Agreed. The mid 80s and early 90s were phenomenal! Then along came the late 90s with some of the most lackluster offerings from LEGO. Only now are we starting to see a return to the glory days. THe late 90s to the early parts of 00s have been pretty disappointing IMO.
  3. I'm definitely on board for the return of peasants/forestment. Honestly, I think that bandits and thieves would be a great addition to the line, robbing from both the heroes (Knights, Dwarfs), and villians (orcs, trolls, skellies). The forestmen have always had some nice medieval torsos, so they could also double as villagers.
  4. The skeleton with hair really makes this work! This is a real conflict between good and evil and one awesome vig.
  5. I'm pretty sure that they are prints. Something tells me that both men have better things to do than spend days signing signatures.
  6. The Jedi cloaks/hoods are great for castle freaks such as myself. I love the Star Wars theme by itself, but elements that can also be used in castle MOCing are an easy favorite.
  7. Your so far ahead of me. Good work, and good luck on finishing by the weekend.
  8. Honestly, it's a good theme. My biggest problem of course is that it simply isn't possible to collect each and every theme (without breaking the bank). By the time Ninja came out, I had already dedicated myself exclusively to the castle (by castle, I mean European castle) line. In fact, I had already dropped Space, Town, and Pirates in order to focus exclusively on a single interest. Unfortunately, LEGO basically abandoned the castle line at that point and I entered a dark ages for about 6 years. These days, with so many themes available, it becomes hard to create a cohesive collection of bricks (ie, minifigs/parts that are suitable for a specific purpose). We see themes like Vikings come and go, making the opportunity to amass a large collection of these fellas difficult. Moreover, variety suffers. Both the Viking and Ninja lines suffer from a limited selection of figs (though Star Wars Jedi torsos can overcome that somewhat). I miss the good ol' days when there were only a few themes. At least you could be certain that the theme would still be around in the future. Now only Town has that priviledge.
  9. Thanks for those shots. Great picks. Oh and Hinckley, that last shot was priceless! *y* *y* *y*
  10. What do the helmets look like without the beards. Conversely, can the beards be used with older flared helms or forestmen caps? Inquiring minds NEED to know. Later.
  11. Finally got my Falcon. Serial No.: 1,812. TAKE THAT EUROPE *vader* !!! I kid :-D . Later.
  12. I'm not too keen on this sort of poll. You like what you like. It really is that simple. The problem of course is that the results will vary greatly from forum to forum. Over at CC, this would obviously yield a very different result. Here, on a Pirate dedicated forum, the result is bound to be scewed towards Pirates. Of course, posting in the History & Adventure forums may yield a completely different result as there isn't the same Castle presence as there is over at CC either. None of these results truly represent that totality of the community, or even the online LEGO community. Pirates and Castle are both great lines. Generally, I think it depends greatly on what your interests were as a child. For me, armour and its workings were completely fascinating, so it shouldn't be too surprising that I quickly became enamoured with the middle ages (and thus the castle line). Each of you probably has your own story as well.
  13. Looks fun. The Creator line has been one of my favorites in recent years, and it looks like it will continue this trend. Nice set (love the BBQ).
  14. I'm pretty sure that it's still illegal. China from what I understand is trying to improve trade relations with countries beyond its borders. Hard to do if your not respecting international copyrights. I suspect that China simply hasn't (or isn't willing to) crackdown on these violations. Protecting one's IP is pretty important, so I can see why LEGO might be concerned over leaked images.
  15. Licences are fine. They attract consumers who might otherwise turn a blind eye to LEGO. Moreover, if LEGO isn't producing Star Wars/Indy/Batman etc., you can bet dollars to donuts that Megabloks or some other clone brand would be. Strictly from a business point of view, I can understand why LEGO has embraced the whole licencing thing. So long as we continue to get great sets/themes that are independent of the many licenced products we now receive, I don't think I have any reason to complain. The LEGO product line is far larger than it was when I was a child, and in the end I think that doesn't hurt anyone (well, it probably hurts alot of people in the pocket book *vader* ).
  16. Indeed. Still, when you consider the insane complexity of the source material, these LEGO versions are pretty impressive despite their inability to change.
  17. What is this "very special item" you mention? I don't remember hearing any discussion on this.
  18. That KKII seige engine wasn't last year's either. That set is from 2005. Still, when comparing next year's offerings to the awesome sets we saw this year, I can't help but feel that the sets themselves are a bit of a step backwards. Is it still better than KKII? Yes. Does that mean much in the grand scheme? Probably not. KKII was not received well by many AFOLs, so comparing this year's sets to KKII rather than Castle yr.1 seems to be inappropriate. I'm glad that you fantasy folks are getting your Trolls/Dwarfs/Orks, but that doesn't mean that set design should suffer. I was hoping for an improvement on last year's designs. These sets just seem bland when you remove the figures themselves.
  19. The most exciting thing about this sentry is that his armour doesn't have a print design on it (hopefully final). This would give us a pearl breastplate that could be used with ANY faction, rather than one that is specific to the Crownies. I may end up refitting some of my older minifigs in silver/pearl armour because of this set. The Wizard is ok too, but I can't see buying more than 1 or 2 of him.
  20. This line is my must have LEGO item for this year! Absolutely out of this world. I can't wait until these hit shelves.
  21. This has got to be a godsend for you fantasy afficionados! Dwarfs, orks, & trolls all in one year. Personally, I'm not keen on these sets, but I'm pleased to see that a good portion of the fandom is happy. Hopefully these guys will keep the line going for another year or two. I would have liked a few more human minfigs thrown in the mix, but hey, you fantasy fans have been waiting a looonnnngg time for this one. Have fun with this one.
  22. I wonder how (or if) they will deal with the whole Nazi theme? According to the video, the game is supposed to be modeled after the original films, so Nazis should play a major roll here. Do people think that this will make it into the game, or are we going to see generic soldiers fighting under a generic banner?
  23. Well, the phrase bley wasn't meant to be derogatory. It was simply a matter of blue+grey = bley. It was simply a way of describing new grey which has a blue or cool tinge when compared to the earlier colour. I don't like calling the new colours fake or inferior, so for me rown is the better choice. Of course, I'll probably simply continue to call the new brown reddish-brown as I have been doing for 3 years.
  24. That's fine. When this question is brought up, people are bound to voice their opinions. Personally, I've never been irritated by the discussion. The topic is bound to come up from time-to-time simply because it did have such a profound effect on our hobby. If you find the topic so irksome, why even bother with these sorts of threads? Again, I think your misreading my post. I never suggested that this was a current issue, or that reverting back to the old colours was feasible. In fact, I have encouraged younger collectors to focus their attention to the new colours with an appreciation that the old colours are gond for good. That still doesn't mean that it is inappropriate to have an opinion on the matter. This is, and always will be an issue for some fans, even if it is irrevokable. You can say that I (and others like Norro) are crying endlessly, but the fact is, even fans who are disappointed by this change have come to accept it. That doesn't mean that we don't enjoy discussing it now and again. Just because old grey/brown are no more doesn't mean that the topic doesn't make for interesting conversation. I appreciate that you prefer the new colours, and that your happy that the old ones are no longer in production. Is it possible for you to appreciate that others still enjoy discussing the change?
  25. You know that this is ALWAYS going to be an issue for some fans (myself included). I mean, I could also say that I'm sick and tired of hearing the same rant (and/or crap) from you bley supporters who show absolute indifference to those of us who take issue with the loss of grey. The funny thing is, this topic is brought up just as often by bley supporters as it is by detractors who are determined to get the LEGO community at large to finally embrace the new colours. I'm as tired of this debate as you are. That doesn't mean I'm going to see the light though. GREY RULES :-D !!!
