I'm gonna join the "TOO MUCH" crowd on this one. My BL orders come in waves. At times I can go months without making an order, and at others I can spend $1000 in a month. Last summer I received a small package almost every day in the mail. When you work for the government, it's all too easy to spend your days placing order upon order on BL. In total, I've probably spent around $5000 on BL since joining two years ago... And I'm still a student! If I get married in the future, this will almost certainly become an issue

No way. You are officially the first person I've ever heard say they don't like Owl City. Ever since I heard his EP "Of June" in 2007, it has been bar none my favourite music--nothing else comes close IMO. I always thought it was so universal. Everyone I show it to falls in love with it completely; who doesn't like easy listening? His albums get better and better, and it's so nice to see him blow up like he has. It's still surreal seeing him on TV and hearing him on the radio. 2 years ago he was some kid alone in his basement making music on his computer. 2 months ago he was the #1 downloaded on iTunes. I'm so happy for Adam, and hope that this motivates him to keep going and improve, rather than sell out like the rest. I truly don't think any music will ever outdo his in my mind, but this is coming from someone who in general can't stand music. I strongly recommend his stuff; it will make you smile, and you won't get tired of it.

If none of the sets are wowing you, why not build your own MOC? The only official sets I think are decent enough to display are the big modular houses.

Yeah, the cheese factor in the movie was through the roof, and I absolutely loved it. Everything about this movie is incredibly excessive, in the best possible way. The humour was super silly and non-stop in your face, but if you go into this movie expecting to have fun you will LOL at every joke. I know I did. The crowd was so into it too, which really helps. Everyone LOL'd at all the jokes and cheered every time Optimus was in the action. It was such a fun and entertaining movie, and the effects were the best I've ever seen. If you go into this movie expecting some sort of profound philosophical Oscar bait, I guarantee you will be terribly let down. This is exactly what a summer blockbuster popcorn action flick should be. It's Michael Bay let off his leash! I am becoming such a huge fan of his movies. There is nothing worse than unnecessary bad CG in a movie (cough I Am Legend), yet nothing quite as breathtaking as good CG. Michael Bay movies tend to have a massive amount of top notch CG. I recommend you see it with the same attitude you likely had toward movies when you were around 8 years old. Back then, I could not have cared less about plot holes or the nuances of acting. I paid to see giant robots slug it out and I got what I paid for in spades; not to mention some great laughs in between. Of course the plot sucked. It sucked in the first one, and it was still an amazing movie in my books. By that logic, this one is even better. I left the theatre with the same feeling I had upon leaving The Dark Knight when I saw it on its IMAX midnight premiere. That feeling was "How the hell could they possibly top that in a third movie!?" I can't wait to see it again in IMAX, and I recommend it to anyone who can lighten up and take a movie a little less seriously.

Yeah, next time don't be so hard on yourself. This would have gotten my vote.

Whereas TRU.ca had a ship date listed for July 3rd, it looks to have been bumped to July 17th. Boourns.

Yup, those new dice will open up a ton of new possibilities for MOCs. Plus some of the tiles have great prints on them. I am surprised at how excellent some of these will be for parts packs, considering they are built as games. Also, I noticed that the image for "Monster 4" has all the heads with the same colour cone base, whereas the standard sand green orc head has a normal green cone base. Then if you look at the box art, it appears to have a normal green head on a normal green cone base. Maybe the pic of the game is a little prelim, and we will be getting a new green monster head to go with the already stellar looking new monster heads. I love monsters. I am happy.

Holy moly the new heads in "Monster 4" look stunning. An absolute must buy for me! All of these games look promising and innovative. I can see these being successful.

Methinks this will be a great set for transforming into the Ghostbusters HQ. I see a lot of similarities already. Also, the brick-built flag is pretty weak and a bit of an eyesore.

For most of my mocs, I have been able to get by using stock sticker sheets from LEGO, or have been able to find what I needed on ebay (including vintage TMNT stickers for my Party Wagon). I have hit a snag though. What I need is the Ghostbusters II logo for my Ecto-1A model, now otherwise complete. The image I speak of is the following: What I need is that image in various sizes ranging between ~0.5" and ~1.5" (the more the merrier) in diameter for me to apply in the four necessary areas (the two side doors, the back hatch door, and the hood). I have looked all over the net and have no idea who would be my best bet to help me with this. Does anyone have suggestions? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Just got off with my local TRU here in Canada and they still don't have the Galactic Enforcer or Hyperspeed Pursuit in stock yet. Will call again next week.

I feel very fortunate to have snatched up all of the villains and a few of the key sets (most of the sets are not "display-worthy" in my mind) while they were still fairly cheap. Just look at how much the tumbler set has shot up. Last time I checked, there were only 8 selling on BL for around $200US. I managed to snag 2 arkham sets MISB for less than $50US each last July; now they go for four times that price. What I did was I used the pieces from both sets to create one big openable asylum loosely based on LEGO's design (will post pics soon). Every time I look at my creation today, filled with every one of the villains, I am thankful for my timing, as it would cost me around $600US to build it today. Also, during this time I was working on a number of TDK MOCs and wound up with a bunch of Joker, Batman, and Two-Face figs from BL. I've sold a few of my extra villains recently for a pretty penny on BL. I never quite got all the appeal for the batcave set though. I could throw something together in no time that would look way better than that.

toysrus.ca used to have all 6 1st wave SPIII sets with a "ship date" of June 1st, but they got the 4 smaller sets in stock at my local TRU a couple weeks ago. Now those 4 are listed as "in stock" and the two larger sets (GE and HP) have a new "ship date" of July 3rd. By this logic, I am hoping that my local TRU gets those 2 in stock in a couple of weeks.

I just finished building the Gold Heist and Space Truck Getaway ("Container Heist"), and let me tell you they are equally sticker intensive. I probably spent a good hour before the actual builds going through and carefully applying the stickers (using the exacto knife trick for added accuracy). This was definitely a pain, but they make for some excellent added details to some already detailed models. I did end up making a few very minor mods to the two ships (I used 8 or 10 white cheese slopes to make the Gold Heist vehicle considerably cleaner). Both sets definitely surpassed my expectations though. The Space Truck Getaway seems like a tough act to follow, but I know the Galactic Enforcer and Hyperspeed Pursuit are gonna kick some serious alien crook tail! SP3 on!
-
So the Galactic Enforcer and Hyperspeed Pursuit have popped up in Canada? I was at my TRU today (in Quebec) and they only had the Gold Heist and Space Truck Getaway (no complaints here). The website says all 6 of the launch sets will officially be out June 1st. When I was in TRU, I noticed a massive cart full of boxes labeled LEGO that were clearly there to be shelved. I peeked in the one on the top and it was a box of Gold Heist sets. I can only hope that the ones underneath were the rest of the SP3 roster. I might swing by my local Zellers tomorrow, as they got the initial Power Miners wave pretty early IIRC. Either way, it is time to get stoked!

I can tell you that I was at my local TRU (Gatineau, Quebec, Canada) and they had several Agents 2.0 sets, new Castle sets, and two Space Police sets (Gold Heist and Container heist, both of which I grabbed). No new Indy sets yet, though. I am really happy with the new green dooku hair that came in one of the new Agents sets; it is much more appropriate for a comic/cartoon inspired Joker.
-
This is probably the only SP3 set I will end up passing on (though Squidman's Pit Stop looks pretty weak as well). I will get Kranxx in the Galactic Enforcer set, so this one seems kind of redundant. The vehicles do nothing for me. It is a cheaper way to get that awesome alien fig though.

It looks as though he did in fact put the wrong hair on Chase and that civilian with the goatee. Question: Is the Mutt hair meant for that civilian dark brown or reddish brown? Reddish brown would be a first for that hair, no?

I've made hundreds of BL orders (too many) over the last few years, and have bought many a "used" brick. In my experience, 75% of the time the bricks/figs are in near mint condition and could have even been reasonably passed off as new. Most BL sellers are pretty good about selling you quality bricks, and "used" is almost never indicative of crazy scratches or teeth marks. Sometimes you will of course get some that have minor scratches or discolouring, but I mean this is a risk that you are running when you choose to buy "used" bricks. 99% of the time, you will receive bricks that maintain their integrity and are respectable enough to use in your MOCs. Only once have I thrown out a few "used" pieces from an order, but it was from a new seller with less feedback and a small inventory. After all, the AFOL community seems like a pretty friendly place to be, and I don't think many people are looking to rip you off. If you were unsatisfied with anything you receive, I'm sure a seller would do what he could to right the ship if you contacted them.

I bought one of these (Expedit Bookcase) on Monday for the purpose of displaying my mocs; 16 pockets is a lot of space, and keeps everything nicely separated: They have shelves in the same Expedit format too. I also got a Billy Bookcase for larger mocs.

Maegnus is also my xbox 360 gamertag, and 95% of the time people pronounce it "Mag-nuss," whereas it is really pronounced as it is written: "Mayg-nuss." It is always nice to hear it pronounced correctly, not that I mind the alternative (still unique enough).

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! It was quite the challenge to capture some of the angles, but I am happy with everything (which says a lot, as I am a major perfectionist). Everything (inside and out) is as accurate as I could make it; the interior even has all the proper gauges and switches in all the right spots.
-
EDIT: Bump to this old thread. I finally got around to taking better pics of this model: Link to the flickr set This took around a month to do and posed many small problems along the way. Everything is as accurate as I could get it, inside and out, as I used a whole lot of reference pics and vids in the process. There are a bunch of weird building techniques including offsets, SNOT, and even some strategic sticker placements. It was a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it: I do need to give a shout out to Legohaulic, who inspired me to build this (I never thought a decent minifig(ish) scale delorean was possible until I saw his); I pulled many ideas from his, and tried to improve on it where I could. Any and all comments are appreciated. Now why don't you make like a tree, and get outta here .

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Maegnus replied to tin7_creations's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Woohoo, found one! Works out to about $12 per claw shipped (like I said, never thought I'd see the day I paid for an MB set). Wolverine, here I come. Thanks for posting your fig, tin7! -

I can see why it was worth it. Those claws finally make Wolverine doable in lego without excessive modding. That is a great fig you have (too bad the movie will be a guaranteed bust). I never thought I'd see the day when I would spend all morning searching the web for a Mega Bloks set... I wasn't able to find one of these ANYWHERE in the world! Blessing in disguise?
