  1. I'm sorry I offended you so much by liking Inglourious Basterds a lot and only so so liking Avatar That makes somebody angry? Well, you are a Sith lord after all. Movies in foreign languages should be done in a foreign language. It's "real" that way. You must have been really angry with all that Navi talk in Avatar, why couldn't James Cameron just given them an accent like in other sci-fi movies? It was made in America... wait, Cameron's Canadian, that explains it! Anyway, feel free to reply to this, since this is an Internet forum where people are trying to have a good time discussing stuff... wait (again), you put me on ignore so I guess you can't. Oh well, à chacun son goût. I don't think Avatar is the worst at all, just... oh, how to explain it.
  2. Then they shouldn't draw attention to themselves. They should show discretion.
  3. I put the Agents 8970 Robo-Attack in my 10184 Town Plan and it looks great. A massive evil robot attacking a 1950's town. I have trouble mixing and matching mini-figs though. It kind of freaks me to leave mini-figs in parts. Even making the Admiral Ackbar-cop in my avatar left me anxious, and I had to return them back quickly
  4. Because people who don't advertise when they do stuff that's against the rules are showing discretion. People who advertise that they break the rules, even casually, are flaunting themselves. This is a little off topic, but a decent metaphor I think. I had friends in university who were smoking a joint in the park (in Canada, it's not very illegal, but 'officially' it's not okay). A cop on a bike rode through, and they all stood up straight, acted innocent, tossed the joint. So the cop came over. He told them, "I know what you were doing, and really, I don't care. But, there's lots of people here. If you start acting weird when you see me, I have to come over, because everybody has seen you were doing something wrong. That's my job." The end result, the cop rode off, no ticket or anything, but he didn't tell them not to smoke joints at the park. He told them to not to make issues of it/be obvious about it. The lesson? The word of the law is not always the same as the intent of the law. That's what I feel like is going on at this site. The mods aren't looking for underage members at all, they're just looking for members disrupting the 'adult' flow. When people start making issues like, "What about this 14-year old who makes MOCs?" they're missing the point. You need rules, and the mods here tend to be lenient about enforcing them. I'm very impressed with the way things are run here, which is why membership seems to be expanding solidly.
  5. Batman & Robin is embarrassing, I watched it last year just to double-check, and it was much more embarrassing than when I saw it in the theater now that I'm older (I watched it on my computer while surfing the Net by the way, it didn't command my attention ) I saw Eyes Wide Shut years back, but it was dull, not offensively, regrettably so. Battlefield Earth is a masterpiece of bad movie making, I highly recommend watching it with a group of friends and a lot of beer, and everyone can scream "No!" at the screen whenever John Travolta says lines like "Puny human!" with a straight face. Absolutely amazing, a perfect storm of crapiness. Highly recommended. I liked that list, I haven't seen most because I avoid mediocre films, I know how to read a review. But when a movie gets to be monumentally crappy, sometimes I check it out. On that list, I enjoyed most of the "poor adaptions" but have zero interest in the "Star vehicles". One of the sites I dig, the AV Club have a film column, I watched this on purpose where the reviewer watches terrible movies and analyzes how terrible they are. A movie like Rotten Tomatoes all time low Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever was deemed pretty much unwatchable, but another, Mac and Me, was somewhat watchable because it was just so unbelievably bad. Another crap movie that is awesome? Dungeon Siege. Burt Reynolds as a medieval king? How could it go wrong? Where are the history MOCs of that flick? What a long post to start the day, like a cup of fine coffee, it got my gears running.
  6. Couldn't understand Transformers, and I didn't make it through Terminator 4, I fell asleep. Lousy story telling, writing, acting, etc etc. I can't understand calling Inglourious Basterds over-hyped compared to ("world wide renowned") Avatar. Avatar has the most hype of any film since, um, Titanic Good movie making is not a democracy. I haven't caught Alvin and the Chipmunks 2:The Squequel, but by the logic that being high-grossing = good, well, take a hike Citizen Kane, 'cause there's a new chipmunk in town If you thought Basterds was boring, well, à chacun son goût. I call it story-telling and mood. You call it boring. I think it's okay for stuff not to explode in film sometimes. Really, there aren't a lot of movies I regret watching, it's usually middle of the road bland stuff, Angels & Demons, the first two Harry Potters, Star Trek Nemesis... Movies aimed at people with no taste in movies. Avatar looked great, but the story was terrible, and gets worse the more you think about it. If you shut your brain off, it's fun. Please keep in mind this thread is all personal opinions, there's no accounting for taste. Perhaps we need a "movies everyone has to see" thread so people can disagree on what's good rather than on what's bad. Cheers
  7. Wow. Another of Tarantino's best gets trashed in this thread. Inglourious Basterds was sublime. Subtitles and all. Christopher Waltz was awesome in four languages in that. Avatar gets worse every time I read an article about it. A beautifully wrapped box that had absolutely nothing inside.
  8. Probably. There was a lot of fundamental writing issues all throughout the prequels (ie. Obi Wan always knew Artoo? Was he faking in A New Hope?). But limitations helped out too. The prequels images are overrun with stuff, to the point that it's numbing. I think the prequels would have benefited from a more restrictive budget, rather than give King George all he wanted.
  9. The shots look great. I'll be buying much more this summer than last for sure. And they are doing the characters from Layer of Grievous! (Clone Wars Episode 10) Grievous with Nahdor Vebb and EV-A4-D. You can see that it comes with a repair table to mend Grievous, though Vebb is on the table in the picture. I think it's great that they're taking the best episodes of season one and making sets out of them (starting with the Freecos this winter). It's like they're actually listening to fans Nahdor Vebb EV-A4-D
  10. The prequels have their good points, but they are very full of plot holes. You must turn your brain off to enjoy them, like most blockbusters today. But the OT holds up fairly well, logically... At least to my way of thinking. The Clone Wars cartoon can be pretty great. It's an episode by episode thing, and some are definitely not worth the time, so it's up to the individual to decide if they want to sift through it. Try watching some of this brutal critique of the plot holes of The Phantom Menace. Now, it's my favorite of the prequels, but I agree pretty much 100% with what this guy is saying. http://www.youtube.com/user/RedLetterMedia.../15/FxKtZmQgxrI
  11. I know that asking for tags is verbotten (months ago I asked for a country tag and lo and behold, I don't have one ). So I thought it would be fun to talk about the ones you want or aspire to. I never make MOCs, but I'm jealous of those with a MOC expert tag. Really, I'm not hinting at anything, just trying to start a new topic that came into my head
  12. Huge in Japan? I've never heard of you All the same, welcome to Eurobricks!
  13. Lovely MOCs you have sir! Welcome to Eurobricks!
  14. Welcome to Eurobricks! Have a good time here.
  15. Cheers! Welcome to Eurobricks!
  16. I really want a country tag. I accept I won't get one. Anytime soon. What Eurobricks tag do you want, and don't expect to get anytime soon? <This thread is only meant to stoke the Eurobricks flame, not antagonize it>
  17. In that case, I blame Big Cam for his lack of a Star Wars tag. Get off your butt, Mr. Cam
  18. I like them, hence I hype them in my reviews. I think the parents complaining explanation is weak. It's an image, not a promise. But I can believe they got complaints about not having instructions.
  19. That's a beautiful, awesome flick Maybe I'll watch it again. Jackie Brown was a great character. For me, Transformers 2 was a low point. I spent the next day wondering why I couldn't understand a popcorn flick, until I read a few reviews that explained it was pure crap. And yes, it was pure crap, with robots punching each other. As for 'why' flicks. Deliverance. I dare anyone to watch that and explain why that sat through it to explain what they saw. It's two hours of a bad bad feeling. I saw it once nearly 20 years ago, and it was already 20 years old at the time. And it made me and all my friends feel terrible. None of us forgot. Holy f#@%. What a miserable film. Watch it and tell me I'm wrong.
  20. As a Star Wars guy, the original trilogy are very watchable. Though Return of the Jedi was aimed at kids (ie. me at the time), it holds up pretty well. It just has child friendly stuff in it. The new prequels are utterly aimed at kids. They make no sense if you think about them at all. If you just want special effects, they are all decent, though 3 is better than 2, which is better than 1. But they all make no sense overall, and have embarrassingly written scenes. This pic says it all (thanks Yumiyoshi for this illuminating pic!) I've watched all the prequels multiple times. The first one in the theater. On acid. Twice! By accident! But all of them make me shake my head in disappointment after they're over. I had my wife watch them with me together two years ago, and I felt bad during Attack of the Clones. It's the most adolescent of them all, in my opinion. Revenge of the Sith is awesome for 15 minute bursts, but it has Darth Vader saying NOOOOOO as he shakes his hands at an overhead camera, so again, I was embarrassed, and I didn't wake my wife to watch it. Man, I can watch those flicks over and over again, but I don't want any 'normal' people to watch them with me. They make me feel bad about myself. The Clone Wars stuff is far less embarrassing.
  21. Well, I'm absolutely thankful for the tags I didn't attempt to achieve. Every tag is a blessing. Big Cam, you're way too busy on Eurobricks to get a full on Star Wars tag, but I hope to see you with a Death Star tag. You've done the work to earn it, in my opinion. It's just a question of time. When's you're next review?
  22. Because you're not a member of the Academy, you can't see info about that section. 36% are there. No worries, I can live with one Star Wars tag
  23. For me it was easier to get the Death Star tag than this new one. Do some reviews. My percentage though, is hard to shift. I use the Reviewer's Academy a bit more than the Star Wars section, so to get this tag, I'd have to stop with the Academy for a month or two and put all my effort back here. Oh well, maybe I should concentrate on other tags then, like doing a decent MOC or something.
  24. This is a beautiful shot, really nice lighting.
  25. Usually about 4-5 hours a week or less. I spend more time here than I do on the hobby.
