  1. Just thinking aloud here.... might be kind of neat to have some variations on the "town" theme...like "Future Town" or "Retro Town." Future Town could be kind of a combination of Town and Space.... think hovercars, transport tubes, minifigs dressed in futuristic clothing, etc. Maybe with neat things like bio-dome-type nature preserves, or a futuristic Chinatown, or even a museum containing normal, "modern" town pieces. Retro Town could be more 1920's-esque, lots of industrial-revolution-era factories and buildings. It would be cool to have Lego Model-T's, mixed with horse-drawn carriages and minifigs in turn-of-the-century garb. However, I realize this would NEVER sell, especially in the U.S. (History? Huh?) I'm not as fond of themes that have actual "characters" and pre-determined storylines. It seems to somewhat diminish the imagination factor that got most of us into lego in the first place.
  2. Wow, yeah, that guy is one prolific and talented model-maker. Crazy how he makes them all motorized, as well.
  3. Hey, thanks very much, Akkh! :) Yeah, I would really like a Technic Grievous and Magnaguard, but I can understand that they don't appeal much to kids and consequently aren't a smart financial decision for TLC. Ah well, I guess it's all right.... I certainly don't want them to lose money. Oh, and AgentA, I didn't mean to sound disparaging towards Bionicles (when I called them "the bastard child of Technic," I meant it in the best possible way, honest). *satis* While they don't appeal much to my personal tastes, I think that's just because of my, er, somewhat older age group. I know they're a big moneymaker for Lego, and for that reason I'm grateful for their existence! Sorry if it sounded like I was making a snide remark about them.
  4. I also voted AT-ST (though when I tried to submit my vote it kept spitting back server errors at me.... so I'll try again later). Of all the ships on the list, the AT-ST is, in my opinion, the most iconic Star Wars vehicle. It gets the most screen time, and is a fantastic and appealing design. Additionally, up till now it has only had one Lego incarnation (not counting the mini). And that version was pretty unsatisfactory even back when it was released. It has so far been oddly neglected in the recent flurry of re-designs. So a UCS version would be great! Though I would also love a more accurate System version. Second choice would be Slave 1. It's still a great ship and a fan favorite, but by the end of this year we'll already have THREE versions it (not counting two mini versions). Seems like enough to me.
  5. All right, so generally I'm more a fan of the System-scale and UCS sets than Technic, but I'm surprised that there were no Technic sets released for Ep3. Did the ones they released previously flop financially or something? It's a shame, because a Technic Grievous (with separating arms and 4 lightsabers) or Grievous' Guard seems like a natural choice! Heck, with his mask, Grievous already looks like one of those bastard children of Technic, the Bionicles. (Also, this is the first topic I've ever started myself, so please don't be too hard on me if I've neglected some aspect of topic-starting etiquette. Thanks!) :$
  6. Tough call, but I gotta go with the classics. First Choice: Megaman! The characters already look like Lego minifigs, and it has a nice "cute" design sense with lots of big industrial "vehicle"-style robots Second Choice: Mario Bros. Lego Koopas and Goombas would be awesome, and little brick-built castles. Third Choice: Zelda Again, cute characters that would adapt well to mini-figs. Plus you could have all sorts of dungeon and village sets, with little cottages and forests. Fourth Choice: Final Fantasy Pretty much for the exact same reasons as Zelda. The mini-figs woudl be great for all these themes, though.
  7. Woohoo, 71%! Fun test! Although I, also, guessed at a lot of the names. :$
  8. Beautiful MOC! Lots of great attention to interior detail, and very creative little touches. The castle has a nice, solid, fortified feel to it. Great stuff!
  9. Kind of a shame TLC didn't create the dinos from bricks, like in the Designer sets. Those still look pretty good, and still feel like Lego (versus these specialized ones, which just look like mediocre action figures). Plus, with brick-built dinos these sets would be great as parts sets!
  10. Yeah, that's a great design! But I think you guys are right, the official lego version won't be quite as impressive. That looks more like a $20 set than a $10 set, unfortunately. :( Love that little padded seat, though! Just 'cause they're clones doesn't mean they can't fly in comfort.
  11. On the up-side, if the V-Wing is smaller and cheaper it becomes more reasonable to buy two of them. Like the AT-RT, it seems like one of those vehicles that looks better as a pair (maybe just 'cause the only time you see them, they are a pair escorting the shuttle). I'm pretty excited about the Slave 1 re-design as well. Sounds like they're really trying for the "definitive" Slave 1 model... bigger and better than the last two interpretations (both of which were fine in my opinion... so this one will be even better!). I also can't wait for the TIE Interceptor. That's probably the one I'm looking forward to the most (it's the one I voted for) because it fills a gaping void in the Lego SW universe. I've been waiting for that ship for years! As a side note, I think I might be one of the few people who actually likes the blue highlights they use on the TIE fighters. I know it's a little inaccurate, and perhaps a little kiddie, but I think they'd be a little drab in all grey and black. I also appreciate the fact that thay've kept all the TIE's very consistent with each other.... displayed side by side, all the TIE's are really quite impressive! *satis*
  12. I think the A-Wing has the potential to be pretty cool... but the main thing it has going against it is not the fault of Lego but of the original design: the A-Wing is simply the least interesting and least unique of all the major SW ships. Whereas a tie-fighter, an X-Wing, or the Falcon scream "Star Wars!", the A-Wing is just a sort of generic spaceship that looks like it could have come out of just about any sci-fi movie. Now, having said that, I'm really looking forward to seeing how they've re-imagined the Lego version of the A-Wing. Hopefully they've gotten the colors a little closer... the grey-white sides with the reddish midsection. I think it would be great if they made the midsection sand red (or even dark red) to give a more "faded" look to the ship, but I suspect they still went with the candy-apple red of the original. Guess we'll see in a few days! :)
  13. Actually I like the official Lego one much better (no offense meant to the builder of the MOC, of course, just respectfully disagreeing). The MOC contains some nice ideas, but it looks too spindly. And the Lego version has a much more appealing stance... body tilted slightly forward, center of gravity shifted back on to the heels with a nice "dog-leg" feeling. Now if only they would design a new AT-ST using the same philosophy....
  14. Heh heh, thanks for the avatar suggestions, Hobbes! Quite fitting, indeed! And to answer Mister Phes, while I don't have any of them still assembled, I have all the original first wave of Pirate sets: the Barracuda, the Caribbean Clipper, Forbidden Island, Eldorado Fortress (still one of my all-time favorite sets), and all the small little sets that came out in that wave. I'm afraid after that wave my interest in Lego diminished a bit, and so I didn't pick up any of the excellent sets that came out later. But now the interest has been re-awakened... maybe 'cause I'm creeping closer to 30 and feeling my age, and looking back fondly to the pleasures of youth! :$
  15. I say sail-barge. Now that the Sandcrawler is out and the TIE interceptor is announced, it's really one of the few missing vehicles from the OT. It would also be a chance to include all sorts of great mini-figs. I would love to see a Jabba redesign... or maybe at least a molding of him in tan, with a little lego Salacious Crumb. Now what would be REALLY cool is if it also included a Sarlac Pit... just think, they could make it using those little teeth pieces they use in the Builder sets for the tyrannosaurus, pirahna, etc.! Although, come to think of it... maybe it would be better if they released a combo pack with the Sarlac, a re-designed skiff, and mini-figs of Han, Luke, Boba, and Lando. That would be a great little set.
  16. Personally I love 'em both! Big beefy wings on the b-wing, and a more accurate silhouette. I wonder if it'll come with some sort of display stand... this is a tough ship to figure out how to display. I love R4's red head... may more styles of astromech head follow, though I suspect they won't (I would love to see the monochrome, burnished copper head that Obi's droid has in the second half of Ep3... they've already got the copper half-domes in the engines of the turbo tank and catamaran, all they'd need to do is slap some paint on there). Can't wait to see the rest of the sets!
  17. You know, I lived in L.A. for four years, you'd think I would have made it to Legoland.... but I never did. It was mostly a time issue. But one of these days I fully intend to go down for a proper trip. I think I have also sort of re-kindled my Lego interest in the past few years, more so than when I lived down there. Thanks, everyone, for the friendly welcomes! I look forward to chatting with all of you on the forums. (Now I just gotta get me an avatar.)
  18. Hey everybody, just sayin' hi. I've read the posts on Eurobricks for a while now, and decided it was finally time to join myself. After poking around a bit, this definitely seems to be the place to go for any hot-off-the-presses Lego news. I also have been impressed that people on this forum seem thoughtful, intelligent, and very respectful of each other. As for me, well, I'm American (Northern California), in my late twenties (yeah, I guess that makes me an AFOL), and in the visual arts field. As for my Lego leanings, well, I've religiously collected all the Star Wars sets... but I think my real lego love will always be for the original Castle theme. I also fully appreciate the old-school town, space, and pirate themes, and wish there were more sets like that still being released. Kids these days just don't know what they're missing, lego-wise. Anyhow, not to ramble, just wanted to chime in and say hi (and come out of the shadows to actually join the conversation). :)
