  1. It's not like Guts was lacking for gold at any point...
  2. To this I will just post Eh... In retaliation from the Orc raids on the bridge. If the bugs keep biting, they will eventually be swatted. Could say the same thing about the Kingdoms: some factions wanted violence, some didn't. There's a difference between being a hero & having a god-complex. I say mercs because I have yet to see a group of heroes turn down a reward. Heroes do it because it is just. Dastan in this instance asked for help, but they should have handled in on their own. I knew Zepher threw it in there for roleplaying purposes after we defeated the mob, and it looked like Phil could have handled it just fine. Agreed. And the 88 heroes took care of 2 of those. I wonder if they actually had a chance to take care of the third or if that was the way for the QMs to force the bridge fight. When you're good at something...
  3. I thought some heroes supported her. Hoke was not high-fived by Guts & Haldor after he whipped her in the last battle AFTER promising not to finish her off is she surrendered. And that's something that annoys me. We couldn't save Mint (I think?), yet, after Hoke DECIMATES Bastala, she gets revived. Lame.
  4. I could just quote that entire post and respond with and be justified, but... 1. Like I said before, both sides had elements that wanted war, and neither was WHOLLY just/good. To say otherwise is to purposefully ignore the evidence presented in the quest(s). 2. Orcs & U'kin aren't humans, so... And I replied to Legonator, and, after reading the quests, the Orcs were only unified in hate & blood lust at that time. No faction/clan was interested in holding just the guilty accountable. 3. What context clues did you gather that say the orcs were ONLY after the bridge? Destroying the bridge may have been a grand plan, but it wasn't their sole intent, just see the last battle. 4. Heroicans are mercenaries, not heroes, in the strictest sense. 5. Outcomes are only partially dictated by the PCs. Sure we can swoop in and save the day, once, but a QM can have any bad guy/faction/nation show up and poo-poo on the whole situation, just like in real life. I would like to point out that it looks like there is PEACE AND A BRIDGE in Baltarok as of this quest. 6. It's great to have QMs make quest that we are still talking about quite passionately YEARS after they are over.
  5. I am sure there is a LOT we are missing on ALL of these quests. Just have to push the right buttons which are often overlooked.
  6. By getting rid of the Orc chief that actually wanted peace and replacing him with one that wanted to kill everyone? Yeah, good way to do that... http://www.eurobrick...ic=89125&st=125 And if they had made it over the bridge, I am pretty sure there would have been a slaughter. If y'all haven't figured out that Zepher quests are morally ambiguous/lose-lose, then I don't know what to tell you. If you solve one problem, it either leaves one unattended to that gets worse or it causes another one to pop up. Lots of unswayable NPCs, multiple factions at odds, etc etc.
  7. Exactly. And what about the orcs attacking the bridge for how many times before the heroes got there? Truth be told there were NO good/honest/clean sides on that quest, yet many saw the orcs as 'oppressed' and, the OH NO! We gotta save them! came out. This, despite that fact, that the orcs didn't even like each other to begin with AND there was friction within that one clan between the leader and his daughter. So, in Hoke's summation, the orcs couldn't get their act together, and didn't look like they could get their act together. The paladins were jerks as well as Mint's son, who, in the end were dealt with. Boohoo? Here's an idea: get over it. Grow up. Do something about it.
  8. The last battle/role-playing itself was 20-30 pages long. There is no quick version.
  9. Hoke's still there to fight with his comrades, he's just tired of the politics and social engineering. He STILL doesn't see how so many Baltarok Trilogy players could so easily side with the orcs.
  10. "Thank you for your hospitality." Hoke inclines his head and takes his leave. Hoke waves to his first dragon, signalling her to come when she has a chance. "Indeed. I hope it doesn't turn into a literal Hel now," Hoke says with a sigh, which he seems to be doing a lot lately,"What was your take on everything? I'd appreciate an independent viewpoint."
  11. Hoke takes note of Ella's smile and the fact that she did not answer his question. "If you don't mind princess, where is for me to know only, as bound by oath. As to how, just as you see me. I was taught the ways of knighthood even before I could walk, including the principles of honor, integrity, humility, and chivalry. I am still working on that last one," he says with a wink,"Because of that, I am a Heroican, at least for awhile longer."
  12. HAHA! Sorry, looks I replied out of order for role playing! Hoke is supposed to still be in the study. I guess. TOO MUCH GOING ON!!! Was supposed to be: Reply to U'Duras, Hybros & Purpearl Follow everyone inside. Over hear Malleio & talk to Tarn & Natasha in the hallway. Talk to Ella in the study. "You are welcome my friend. I do hope soon this land will come to a peaceful solution without further bloodshed and violence. May Dastan see a thousand generations of peace." Hoke sighs. He takes a deep breath, and tries again. "My lady, I apologize for my abrupt demeanor. As I told Lady Natasha, I am more at home on a battle field than at court. However, those two seemed to have intersected today, and I have treated diplomacy without tact. I just know I have been in this situation before, and it was violently unkind to all of those involved. Mayhaps I am basing my judgement too heavily on that experience."
  13. "I do not wish to see any come to harm, yet sometimes, that is what it takes to mold a country, whether or not you and I see it as just. We are merely transients, and that's why it probably wasn't the best to stand in the way of the Dastanians' laws and customs. Sven had a rightful claim in what he did, if only HE and one of the rulers would have settled it instead of asking for others to die for their visions of power. Look at Tarn. How long has he been here, and yet, the Dastanians treat him with scorn and disdain. You are correct Lady Purpearl, the sooner we leave, the better it will be, and hopefully, for all of Dastan."
  14. "If the people don't rise up for themselves, then they will need rescuing again. And again. I am only how I am now because I stood up. If they do not place value on their lives and their freedoms, why should an outsider? There is strength that is not physical, and you cannot just give that to someone." Hoke just shakes his head, not understanding how Hybros missed his point. "Then I suppose you mean to stay after we are done with Guffington if you ?" Hoke calls out to the imp as he walks off.
  15. "Sounds like need new leaders or a new approach. Playing the victim will only leave you victimized. I truly wish you and your people luck with that." Hoke scoffs at Hyrbos's ludicrous statement. "Lowering themselves to Sven's level. Isn't that EXACTLY what we just did? Meeting violence with violence? The weak will remain weak if they choose to not strengthen themselves and fight their own battles." "Well met and well fought," Hoke says to Natasha,"Mayhaps next time we will have a clear victor in next contest. Good luck to you wherever your travels lead." Hoke watches as the crowd disperses, then notices the pools of blood on the pavement. He follows the Heroicans and Dastanians back into the palace, catching Ella privately in her study as to not seem to scold her in front of others, out of respect. "Be careful which way and how you nudge your nation princess. It looks as if you hand is either too delicate in some areas and too hard in others. We may have interceded for now, but foreigners doing your dirty work will not earn the respect and allegiance you need from your people. Why are Sven and his followers so upset with Dastan's rulers? The true reason." Hoke looks around the study to see if anything may be useful or catches his eye. "Anything in here princess that may aid my fellow Heroicans and I on this quest?" "A bed ridden emperor," Hoke says to himself. "The sooner the better it would seem," Hoke says to the former Heroican,"It seems like our presence is rather unwanted by those outside of your palace's walls. An interesting place to find yourself in Tarn."
  16. So who from 135 is going to shank Monk Pretzel when they get back to the Hall?
  17. Hoke ponders the imp's words in silence, feeling ill at ease with Hybros's surety of the situation. "If the U'kin do not deserve such a thing, then they need to do something about it." Hoke puts a hand over his face and shakes his head. He chuckles once, shakes his head again, and walks towards Arthur. "Well done," he says as the helps the exhausted dragoon up and claims the Flagpole once more and the loot from the battle, donning Sven's Heavy Armor after removing his own.
  18. Hoke did too, kind of : And I just re-read the Baltarok final battle. MAN! Such great role-play from almost everyone involved! And poor QMs! Those OOC battle mechanic, did-you-roll-this-right comments were insane!
  19. It's a mix really. Basically Hoke believes Arthur's judgement is too impassioned, making him overcompensate in his decisions. Does that make sense? It's like Arthur is all-or-nothing x infinity.
  20. Hoke nods in approval as he watches Arthur in battle
  21. Hoke narrows his eyes at Guffington, unable to bring himself to trust the man. It seems, yet again, he was left with only a few pieces to a large puzzle. Hoke eyes Purpearl suspicious, attempting to decipher what Mystic Knight's words really meant. He approaches her, his lips close to her ear. "What is going on here?" Hoke asks flatly.
  22. A sign of a man with a clear conscience.
  23. And apparently Hoke is exhibiting one of his new(ish)ly developed unlikable traits.
  24. <Arthur's misguided-righteousness does not impress me, neither does his assumption that he knows what's best for an entire country and a collection of people groups.> Hoke shakes his head remembering the time his fellow Dragoon stepped aside in an effort to let a mad witch attempt to ascend to god-hood.
