LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
BlueberryWaffles replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Man, I'm torn between getting the new R2 or the 2021 model. I feel like the bigger one would look better next to BD-1, but the new one is surprisingly well detailed for being so much cheaper. -

Why would we get sets from underrepresented films when we could get a seventh Endgame final battle set... -

Yeah, a lot of this seems to be a license problem rather than a Lego problem. This is really the only time we've seen Disney try to market the brand on a wider scale since purchasing Lucasfilm, and it was clearly a mixed bag. Outside of Lego, there was only a few other toy lines like Funko Pops or some generic Hasbro toys. Given the degree of a box office bomb that DoD turned out to be, I think that's coming to an end now. The only other thing I can really see in the franchise's future is the upcoming Bethesda game, and even that won't get the reach that a movie would. -

Everyone really treats that as based on the original film, myself included. I would be willing to bet that the rust stickers are some of the most unused stickers of any Lego set. But yeah, I have to agree. This has been pretty disappointing to see. Maybe it would have been better to focus more on the adult-oriented sets, like most of the other merchandise? My last bit of hope is another diorama set next year if sales were good enough. I bought the two Lego IJ games during the summer Steam sale, and was reflecting as I began to replay Original Adventures. Those games, along with the original wave of sets, are really the driver behind my love of the franchise itself. Last year, I was hoping for a remake game using the Skywalker Saga engine. Now, I'm shocked that they didn't even go to the effort of remastering the original games for the current generation of systems. Everything about this revival, even beyond Lego's efforts, is not going to generate the excitement that the KotCS revival did, and that bums me out. -

Figured I would throw my ranking in: 1. Raiders 2. Last Crusade 3. Temple of Doom 4. Crystal Skull 5. Dial of Destiny Personally, KotCS grows on me as I rewatch it. It's definitely below the original trilogy, but the hate for it is way overblown in my opinion. DoD I'm still pretty mixed on but at the end of the day it doesn't have the mood that the others have. Maybe it's the lack of Spielberg. To be fair, at least him dropping Indy 5 gave us The Fabelmans, and that's a good enough trade-off in my opinion. -

Unfortunately, I don't think KotCS would be considered even if the theme continued because of its ongoing reputation. Having just rewatched it, I've definitely grown fonder of the movie, but that's not the case for many judging by social media comments. At this point, I think our best bet for more sets would be diorama-style 18+ sets like the idol temple. I'm afraid the ship on standard sets has sailed, though I would love to be proven wrong. -
Yeah, seems like these sets didn't do too great. Just picked up the RDA Samson for 50% off at a Target last night. Hoping I can find the others for similar discounts, especially the Tree of Souls.

Sure, but I would argue that the intense marketing push before KotCS was the reason that the franchise had more interest back in 2008. It reignited the movies for an entire new generation, including myself. The first Lego IJ game may have been the first introduction to the series for many people. -

Just realized that with the movie releasing in around a month from now, it's far too late to announce a tie-in Lego video game. Even a remaster of the first two games for modern consoles (similar to the HP collection a few years ago) would have been great. Another odd missed opportunity with this reboot. -
How did you find this thread from 2005? It is funny to see the poll and responses almost 20 years later. LotR, Marvel/DC, and BttF all ended up happening, and Matrix was referenced in a theatrical Lego movie even if there haven't been physical sets. Gladiator is the oddball choice from a modern perspective.

The lack of fanfare from TLG on these sets baffles me. The original sets seemed like they were a huge part of Lego's output at the time. As others have mentioned, releasing back before so many licensed themes were prevalent made it feel special. The video games, specifically The Original Adventures, are part of that iconic original era of TT's Lego games along with Star Wars and Batman. I bet that game alone was a driving factor for most younger IJ fans who didn't grow up with the movies. Yet these sets seemed to launch quietly. Aside from one Instagram post about the golden idol temple, it seems like they've been uncharacteristically quiet about the return. The whole thing just seems off to me. If anything, I would guess that the complications with the ToD set and possible cancellations of DoD sets have made them skittish about the entire ordeal. And maybe it's a Disney/Lucasfilm thing, who knows? I've heard that the previously rumored Disney+ show is now no longer happening. And the Bethesda video game has been radio silent ever since its announcement years ago, we still haven't seen gameplay or even a plot summary. Maybe the brand as a whole was being set up for a larger reboot which is now being scaled back. Either way, it bums me out. I'll definitely pick these sets up once I find them in stores, and I'm glad we got what we did. But after the stellar treatment that HP has gotten in its reboot, I can't help but feel underwhelmed. -

Personally, I've been waiting on minifig-scaled Burton sets for a long time, so this news definitely excites me. Can't wait to see them. -

I know I'm biased since I've been waiting for this theme to return ever since 2010... but I'm whelmed. These honestly don't seem much more detailed than the original sets. The Lost Tomb in particular feels off to me. Will try to hold judgment until better pictures come out, but right now...meh. At least the minifigs are improved. I'm really, really hoping that this is not a one-wave thing to go along with Indy 5's release. -

I just missed out on the 2020 Burrow (it looks like it's sold out everywhere) so I definitely have eyes on the new one. Looks massive. -

There hasn't been a standard Batman cartoon in quite a while. I can only think of the Batwheels show, which would probably be made into Duplo sets. The last traditional Batman cartoon was the short-lived Beware the Batman, which did get one loosely-adapted set (the one with that show's Batmobile and the Riddler dragster). Agree that we're never getting sets based on direct-to-video movies. They're too niche, and we would have gotten some already if that was an option. Even those have started to skew to an older audience, with many of the recent ones being rated R. -

Heresy! Batman Returns might be one of my all-time favorite superhero movies. To be fair, I'm a big fan of Burton's style, and I think Returns nails the balance of dark yet comical that we don't see enough in live-action Batman. Even though I like the more recent adaptations, Michele Pfeiffer's Catwoman is by far the definitive portrayal of the character to me. I'm still hoping for some Lego sets specifically based on that movie, outside of the TLBM Duckmobile which took obvious inspiration. -

Brickset just posted a short interview with Mark Stafford about the current state of the Lego DC theme. Mark says that the main reason that DC sets have declined recently is DC's increased focus on adult content in the past few years. He says there is hope for the future now that DC Films is restructuring its film slate. Finally, when asked about the lack of anniversary sets, he says that the date snuck up on the design teams during the pandemic, plus there was debate over whether the anniversary starts from 2012 or 2006 for the original Batman theme (or 2002 in Marvel's case, going off of the Studios Spider-Man sets). -

To be fair, wasn't it stated in a designer interview that the reason Punisher had to be saved for an 18+ set was because of concerns about how the character is portrayed? So Deadpool would also have to be saved for a D2C in that case. -

Right? Not only is it crazy that each of them are returning, but together in the same year means my Lego budget has to go up immensely. Now if only they would revive TMNT... -
The Lord of the Rings 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
BlueberryWaffles replied to Alegrispa's topic in LEGO Licensed
Back when the original theme was active, I think that was the logic behind it. The Licensed subforum is already crowded as-is, so let some of the overflow go to Historic. I think the same thing happened with PotC and the Pirates subforum. Personally, I'm okay with LotR staying back in Historic, but I'll be fine with whatever the mods choose. -

Wow, this is crazy! Never thought this day would come again. Now, after nine years, we can finally go back to arguing about how big a Minas Tirith D2C should be! In all honesty, this news has me very excited. If we get remakes of LotR sets of similar quality to the current HP revival, I'll be in heaven. Especially with how much more TLG embraces large-scale sets now compared to 2013, this could have huge potential. I agree that diorama-style sets are very likely, but I hope standard sets aren't completely out of the picture. Odd that they're starting off with Brickheadz, but whatever they think will ease people back into the brand, I guess. -

Wow, this is...something. Definitely not close to anything I predicted. Easy pass for me, it's way too expensive for a bust. At least it is more iconic than any BP vehicle would be, but it feels weird to do a bust at this scale when they've already established a line of Marvel busts/props throughout the past few years. Even judging it by itself, something about the mask structure seems misshapen from the source material, it looks too angular around the face. Honestly, the thing about this that bothers me the most is it feels like another way to cash in on Boseman's death. The "tribute" nature of the build and plaque combined with the exorbitant price leave a bad taste in my mouth. -

What, so that really only leaves UCS-scale vehicles, doesn't it? Milano or Quinjet are the two options that jump out at me. Maybe the Sanctuary II but that seems pretty niche for $500. In my opinion, the MCU doesn't have any vehicle as iconic as something like an X-Wing or the Hogwarts Express. Man, I'm really hoping this is another "gotcha" leak like the Uncharted situation earlier this year. Avengers/Stark Tower just makes so much sense.
