I must say that I was pleasantly surprised since I too visited STEAM at Swindon for the Brickish event. Being usually up to date with all things leaked here on Eurobricks it was quite exciting to walk past the little box, and the first time think, that's a really cool MOC. Then I bump into Jan Meyer, who explains it's a new set. Seeing that video on youtube of the brickcon unveil makes me think leaks are a bad thing really - much much more exciting to see it in the flesh for real first time!

I know you don't necessarily want to go to Windsor, but... This weekend, Legoland Windsor is going to be building the world's tallest Lego tower. I'm highly tempted to come back from uni for the weekend to come help (and I work there... but not this weekend!) If any others are planning on going, please let me know - I'd love to meet up with some other people from the community, aside from the "usual" Brickish suspects (although Brickish subjects too would be cool!) Feel free to PM me, and we'll see if we couldn't meet up maybe there.

I still can't believe... how we wait years and years for a decent church/ petrol station/ cinema... and then three come along at once!!! And... in answer to those who said it has no roadplates... i suspect by the white markings on the floor... it may come with like a laminated cardboard board? Like for old times sake (or else how will that red carpet work?) Still, even if it doesn't, still a must buy purchase.

It's been years since I've said this... but I will buy that set. AFOLs of the world... we have arrived. Lego have finally realised there's an adult community out there with this set. It reminds me... just seeing this photo how great Lego as a company is. It may make mistakes... like bley, the trains and others, but this i think is enough to redeem them. When's it shipping from?!!! PS, yes it was Kjeld on the original box. It says so in the Ultimate Lego Book by Dorling Kindersley if you have that from a few years back. Nice to see him reappear now! (Incidentally, it was Kjeld who really pushed the Lego System with the red block over the T of system era... ie the early 1990s.)

Yes, I work at Legoland in the Big Shop. In fact, I'm posting this from the staff computer in the staff restaurant. Please do come over the summer and visit.... the more the merrier!
-
Glad you enjoyed it. Nice to see another happy customer leave the Big Shop content. Not to be rude or anything, but I'm afraid we did have spongebob, but only the keychains and magnet sets sadly. Ah well. Maybe next time? ;-) These sore ankles are made so much more worthwhile though when you hear what fun you guests have had... and makes the job one in which you realise what a priviledge you have to be able to work there.

BRICKSHELF is up again !!! HURRY HURRY HURRY!
birdie100 replied to Brick Miner's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, I at first instinctively thought that it was Kevin. There's a lot of reasons for me why I've never joined Lugnet, though read its forums. One of them being that it does seem to specialise in flare ups with a certain eric sophie, etc. But heh, perhaps eccentricity and creativity run as one? And also, because I never am able, whenever I try, to create a Lugnet profile. Do you have to donate to get posting? It's not nearly as straightforward by any means as somewhere like here at EB. Now, see, if Jennifer and/or Kevin are real, they'll be able to allay my fears on this. But, we shall see. -

OK... I'm prepared to utilise 100MB to back up some of the legoland windsor pics... given I work there. They seem too precious to lose. Edit: seems like the file sizes are just too vast. Kevin, as yuo're here, please tell us what you intend to do next. It influences how much we decide to backup! Do we reckon it would be possible between us to save the entire brickshelf? Kind of like a seto@home thingy? These are questions the community must consider, and fast! -
Problems with BS / Is BrickShelf no more ???
birdie100 replied to john cleese's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well... if it ain't Kevin... that's creepy... www.brickshelf.com "Notice: Brickshelf will be shutting down on 2007/07/31. Please save your files to your computer." And full functioning brickshelf below!!! Phew! -

Edited again... after re reading my post that was really really creepy. So, for decency, I removed the info (a pic of kevin from google, and a transcript of a convo with a work colleague of his). I'm going to let this story take a run for wherever it's going, but after this silly little interlude, and in the light of realising what I have done could well be perceived as harassment, as pointed out by starwars4J, i'm just going to leave it to Troy and other lugnet peeps to sort out, the usual methods. -
Right, good news folks, at the risk of crashing brickshelf's servers. If you go to https://www.brickshelf.com, everything bar the search function seems to be working fine. I suggest you back up ASAP!

Problems with BS / Is BrickShelf no more ???
birdie100 replied to john cleese's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Why has this issue been locked down to this completely unrelated thread? The one that balckbart set up on the website page asking why brickshelf had been shut down would have been the most logical imho to shut down. But, such arguing at this time is hopeless. We need to organise a concerted effort amongst EB members to ascertain what's happened. Anyone with access to Lugnet may like to add their voice to the questions being raised over there. What's more shocking though is the lack of questions coming in... but there again, I guess Brickshelf is a relatively minor website... -
Brickshelf is no more!!!!!
birdie100 replied to black bart(artamus)'s topic in Forum Information and Help
Yep, maj.com was set up about 2-3 years ago I think, to take the pressure off Brickshelf and show ordinary photos, of anything. Right... doing some digging for this Kevin Loch fellow who hosts/ runs Brickshelf. It appears he has a youtube account. I don't, so can't send a message to him. But, worth a try from anyone else.... (He last logged in it says 1 week ago) http://uk.youtube.com/profile?user=n3kl -
Brickshelf is no more!!!!!
birdie100 replied to black bart(artamus)'s topic in Forum Information and Help
Yes, this is utter madness! I suspect that it's someone trying to seek attention. Whoever runs it is clearly just trying to remind us how expensive it is to run, and no doubt tomorow/ monday will announce we need to pay for a new server. Or something silly like that. Still, MOCpages.com will now be useless... as all the files to a great extent were streamed from there. It's mentioned on Lugnet too that Brickshelf has fallen, only with disparaging remarks about how we should all be using flickr, and how Brickshelf was rubbish since the 90s... and other such similar rubbish. But yeah, if any people in the worldwide lego community are around, and have an idea as to what's going on, this is vital to solve! And yes, if necessary, I will pay to keep Brickshef alive. (NB, I notice that the affiliated site, maj.com, is alive and well. Why is this, and yet the Lego related pics are gone. Surely, praying, it's just a publicity stunt?!) -
Ah, but who can confess to mixing in food colouring with the water to the moulding process? And, for those of you interested enough, Legoland now retail a new product in a similar vein... the cake/ jelly brick mould.... Enjoy. ;-)
-
I'm puzzled by this move. Why is Lego repeating the disaster of video games? Lego specifically moved out of that arena to focus on its own core branding. I hope and pray they're not developing this product - as if they are, in-house, we're likely to see a legoland-esque actual release date of 2009 I'm guessing.

LEGOREDO STATION wild west set #6785
birdie100 replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I am amzed at such good quality MOCing. In all my time on Eurobricks, Lugnet or Brickshelf, I don't think I have ever seen such a well thought out and conceived MOC. Lego would be proud to produce this I'm sure... let's just hope and pray that someone like Jan spots these on this forum, and maybe turns it into an official set. On another note, seeing your MOC with the railway makes me ask one more thing - would it be possible to build a Wild West level crossing, a la Mario kart 64 style? That would be super cool, and could be a new set in your Legoredo range... -
In fairness, not being rude admins - but your policy looks fundamentally flawed when the set and image are now on Lugnet, as a top link. Now that they're there, there is no point in keeping them deleted unless you have a sub poena on you or an NDA?
-
I suspect that the reason why TLC has asked us to remove the pics is because it is a prototype model. They didn't want us to have seen that model - because the finished one will not be as complex or detailed - and they don't want us disappointed later. The one that was there earlier on this afternoon was probably like a concept oen or something - not intended for the general public to see. So don't be disappointed when the real set looks nothing like the one we saw earlier this afternoon!

Merlin Entertainemts Group buyout of Tussauds International
birdie100 replied to birdie100's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Who knows? There's two ways that Blackstone may play this - either try to integrate the companies - eg unified rewards (Legoland use Sainsbury's nectar points, Tussauds only use Tesco Clubcard points for redemption etc.), stronger cross branding, unified season pass for all the attractions etc. Or, they may keep them separate to make the public feel that there isn't a duopoly of power between Merlin and Disney (and would any self respecting teenager go to Thorpe park if they knew it was part owned by Lego!). Hmm, still, on a personal level, hope they do integrated staff bonuses. Work at legoland and free entry to Thorpe park. Sounds like fun to me ; *sweet* -) -
I thought it would be important to inform you that Blackstone, via Merlin, have bought out the Tussauds brand. Here's the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6419019.stm As a Legoland employee, this is a huge change - in a little over two years we've gone from being a part of Lego to a part of a vast nigh on

Hmm.. I can tell you where that Ferris wheel will sell. In a little place formerly known as My Town, now known as Lego City, at the Brick Brothers store. Still, up here in Big Shop we should be able to sell it as the punters go home. Hehe. That looks seriously good fun. Now Lego, how's about making some attraction themed Lego sets for Legoland eh? That house is gorgeous - we're going to need a lot of them I foresee, to fulfil demand. I see parents buying that, "strictly for their children" . The dinosaur, looks alright. We sold quite a few of those lions and vulture packs, but the dinosaur baby's got RC. So, hopefully we'll be able to sell him well too. How exciting indeed...
-
I work at Legoland in the summer. If I can't sell those houses out every time we have a delivery of them, I will eat my proverbial Lego bricks. That house is wonderful. I can see parents buying that for their children... simply because they want to play with it. And trust me, it happens more than most will admit. If Lego can start offering such quality, it makes it a privilege once more to be selling their products most days of my summer holidays. These latest round of models shows what they are capable of. Now then, when do i get to sell my first one? Sometime around August... Still, the next move in my opinion for Lego, to start restoring the glory days, is to bring out a range of useful small car sets. They're going some way to addressing this, but you need to have a selection eg fire car/police car/ garbage truck/ etc. I bought many little car sets as the intro sets, and left the larger ones for Xmas presents etc. Lego would do very well to not only have the nice truck (in GREEN!!! - I remember my excitement like it was yesterday when the first green lego brick entered my hands in 1997!), but remember the pocket money sets too.
-
Hmm... just casting my eyes over those sets. I'm personally thinking uh-oh. However, if I look at the demographic of the people who I serve in the Pick a Brick shop in the summer, I'm fairly convinced I'll be able to shift plenty of those smaller space sets. They look really good fun! As a child, whilst mainly owning city and train sets, I would often end up with the smallest spacecraft models simply because they were the pocket money sets. In terms of getting people into Lego Space (particularly important since Star Wars can only last a certain amount of time before new children grow up without the awareness of a film...) those small sets look really new and inventive. I can understand the disappointment to those of you who can build vast moonbases etc., and I must confess I see the similarities to Life on Mars. But these Mars Mission sets are certainly a good way of the Lego designers warming up and getting used to having non Star Wars space products. For a first attempt (remember many of these designers were not at Lego pre-Star Wars) it's a very good tentative step. And, with the success of Exo-Force, I hope this range is successful. Us older collectors may be rolling our eyes in horror - but I think we'd have all been more impressed if we hadn't seen such brilliant new City and Creator sets...
