  1. I did a search for a similar topic but couldn't find any. Also, I'm not sure if this would be better served in one of the general forums. My interest is for Star Wars minifigs, so I decided to put the topic here. If it needs to be moved, please do so (I left the topic title generic enough that it will fit in anywhere). Anyway, for those familiar with Bricklink or with Brickset (which I believe uses some Bricklink images), I'm sure you've had a chance to view the minifig database available at each site. My question is where do the minifig numbers used for identification come from? Are they official numbers from LEGO, or are they unofficial numbers generated by Bricklink (or somebody else?). If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, the numbers are similar to set numbers but for minifigures, e.g. Barris Offee is identified by its minifig number sw269. Also, why are some numbers skipped? For example, there are no minifigs for sw098, sw119, sw185, sw186, sw216, sw226, and sw254? If the numbers are official LEGO identifiers then I assume these were for minifigures that were at one time going to be produced but for whatever reason were scrapped. If they're unofficial and created by AFOLs at Bricklink, then why skip a number? Anyway, if anybody can help I'd appreciate it. I've been putting all of my minifigures in a spreadsheet and my curiosity has been piqued about these identification numbers.
  2. Yesterday, I stopped by Toys R Us and picked up 8091 Republic Swamp Speeder. I was able to use my $5.00 coupon from Toys R Us to bring the price down to a more reasonable $25 USD. I was able to put it together last night.
  3. I've got to say it's going to be sad not seeing any Agents sets this year. The 2008 line was fantastic, and what got me to try LEGO sets other than Castle or Star Wars (the Mobile Command Center is in my top 5 LEGO sets). I thought the 2009 line was pretty hit (copter & robot) and miss (the rest), but I still enjoyed all of the sets. I look forward to seeing what LEGO comes up with next to continue the super-spy themes.
  4. Finally found 8091 Luke's Landspeeder the other day; and on the same night I purchased an 8964 Titanium Command Rig. Put together the Landspeeder immediately, but the Command Rig will have to wait a few weekends -- very busy right now.
  5. Hmmm, of the sets I currently own, think, think, think.... Maybe its this set , this set , or this set , maybe this one , this one , or this one , and I can't leave out this one . Aaaah, who am I kidding, there's too many sets to choose from ...
  6. It's never happened to me, but I don't find it hard to believe. With the volume of sets the LEGO produces in a day, it's easier for me to believe this did happen, versus "it's impossible for it to happen." It only takes a bored employee to drop a gift inside a box. Where's the thread someone started about a stamped smiley face inside their LEGO box? I think the consensus for most EB'ers was that it was a bored employee that put it there. EDIT: Here it is.
  7. I say do whatever makes you happy with your LEGO. If you want to mix yellow & fleshies, then don't worry about what others say. (Just understand that if you are asking for critiques of your LEGO models, then some AFOLs may not be happy with this integration policy. )
  8. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but... this this this ...oh, heck, all of the UCS Series bore me to tears. To me, they're glorified models that you only display and never play with. Oh, em79, I think the Fire Brigade is meh, too
  9. My original dark age lasted about 14 years, from 1985 to 1999. I had the early-80's space sets, but then got interested in girls, cars, music, etc., and didn't have time for LEGO. I didn't even think about LEGO, or look at a LEGO set for over a decade. Flashforward to my late twenties and I was collecting vintage Kenner Star Wars figures and hanging out in Star Wars collector sites. Around 1997-1998, I read about LEGO getting the Star Wars license and thought "cool." When the sets started coming out I picked up a few. None of them really blew me away, but they were fun. I had most of the Star Wars sets from 1999-2003, and picked up a lot of the Harry Potter sets. I was unaware of the LEGO community, or some the great MOCs that people were making, so to me LEGO were just kits to be built and nothing more. In 2003-2004 I sold my entire collection, including the early-80's space sets -- I had to raise money for a family van. And so began my second dark age. This second dark age ended in summer 2008. My wife & kids were visiting her family in Houston, I had just started a new job and couldn't join them. I was home by myself for a week. I had finished my vintage Star Wars collection several years earlier, and had lost all interest in all the Hasbro figures, but still went to toy stores out of habit. On one of these stops I walked down the LEGO aisle to look at the new Star Wars sets. Meh, cool but no big deal; but when I turned around, on the other side of the aisle were several of the 7093 Skeleton Tower sets. I bought the set on a whim, and then went back and got the 7092 Skeletons' Prison Carriage. After building the sets and seeing how cool they were, I got online and searched LEGO Castle sets to see what else was available. What I saw blew me away; I spent the next several hours poring over images of MOC Castles. I was hooked. Since then, I have ended up getting all of the Fantasy-era Castle sets (except the few still mentioned in my signature), grabbed all the Agents sets, most of the Indiana Jones and the Power Miners themes, dabbled in the Coast Guard and Farm sub-themes, and rediscovered my joy of Star Wars. I found out about EB and other sites like Brickset and The Brothers Brick, and got involved in the local LUG. All in all, it's been a fun two years.
  10. Great review! Thanks for all of the great pictures and good angle shots. The Atlantis sets haven't really interested me, but when I saw this set at Target the other night I was intrigued and though about purchasing it. My intrigue quickly vanished though when I saw the price. I agree this set is way, way, way overpriced. I don't mind paying higher prices for licensed sets, because I feel the high price is justified by the licensing fee LEGO has to cover. But when I see the same high price on a set from an in-house theme, I just put the set down and wait for the inevitable sale.
  11. Last night I purchased: 8083 Rebel Trooper Battle Pack 8084 Snowtrooper Battle Pack I still haven't located Luke's Landspeeder or the Swamp Speeder
  12. Today I bought my first set of 2010, the 7739 Coast Guard Patrol Boat & Tower for only $15.00! I was at Wal-Mart looking for a Luke's Landspeeder (no luck) and I found the Patrol Boat sitting there all by its lonesome, so I just had to take it home with me.
  13. Wow, that was a great video. Thank you for sharing that! EDIT: Sandy beat me to it with an explanation of the heads
  14. Spiders and loud noises.
  15. With the "cereal box" (wonderful description) type opening, I usually just cut through the tape and pop out the tab slot in the flap and I have a wonderful box for storage. The "thumb push/crush" boxes usually get thrown out after I've thoroughly demolished them in the opening process. If I have to use my thumb to open the box, then the box gets tossed once it's been opened. I guess you could say that's my rule of thumb.
  16. Gaah, how did I miss this topic until today. I missed out on the photos, bummer. I saw some of the prelim Kingdoms pictures somewhere else (probably here on EB, just don't remember which topic), but I haven't seen any of the new City or Train sets.
  17. Dallas Cowboys fan here. ...and I'm not one of those Cowboys fans that only latches on during the Super Bowl years. I've been a Dallas area resident all my 40 years, and I live & die by the Cowboys. It's been a great end to the regular season; let's carry it over to the post season now!
  18. I thought the Harry Potter sets were pretty much hit or miss, either really good (like Dumbledore's Office) or really bad (the classroom and house sets). I sold off all my sets in 2003-2004 before the Azkaban sets were released, and none of the 2004-2007 sets were able to draw me back in (I did get the Durmstrang Ship as a gift) and I haven't really missed the line. That being said, I wouldn't mind LEGO taking another stab at this theme, as it has a lot of potential. The preliminary set names are not promising (though I'm curious to see the train), but I'm keeping my hopes up.
  19. I had this happen to me on an Indiana Jones Race for the Stolen Treasure set. I won the set in an eBay auction, and the box arrived sealed, even the baggies were sealed; but when I started opening the baggies the seams were a little off, as if they'd been heat sealed. Anyway, all the pieces were there except the Indiana Jones minifig and one of the rifles. I called customer service. The individual I spoke to was very nice, very professional. I simply described each piece that was missing using the part number found in the inventory list at the back of the instructions; then I had to supply a serial number that was on the very back of the instruction booklet. This number allows LEGOGroup to know which production run the set came from in case there were any problems with that particular run, and it also serves as evidence any caller is actually looking at an instruction booklet and not making up a story. About a week later, my Indiana Jones and rifle pieces showed up in my mailbox.
  20. ...and here is part II. STAR WARS Classic - (x3) (x2) STAR WARS Clone Wars - (x2) (x4) Phew! When I look at it like that, I really think I might be addicted.
  21. It's probably just a case of the store's stock being sold out due to the holidays. My local Target was pretty bare yesterday. I'd give it a few days, maybe even a week or two, and then check again. You could also ask an employee when the next shipment truck will be coming in.
  22. I have too many sets to list in one post, so here's part I: AGENTS 2.0 - CASTLE - CITY - (x2) (x2) (x2) CREATOR - (x2) HOLIDAY - (x2) INDIANA JONES - (x3) MODULAR BUILDINGS - PIRATES - POWER MINERS - SPACE - TOY STORY - (x2)
  23. I made the decision this past summer that I was going to be dropping the Castle line once the Fantasy era theme ended. These 2010 sets do look nice, but nothing that would entice me to reconsider my decision. I'm sure a lot of Castle fans will be pleased with the 2010 line-up, and I'm eager to see some reviews when the sets start appearing, but I will be passing on these sets.
  24. I've gotta admit I know nothing about the Prince of Persia video game and I had zero interest in this LEGO theme, but after seeing these images I've got a hankering to pick up the largest set, and maybe the ostrich race. I'll have to check my budget and see if I can afford them.
  25. Nice review, and good, clean photos of the set. Thanks for the picture of the Commander Droid - I agree that it doesn't seem all that special. I voted the set below average, as I find the set just way too similar to the 2005 version (and that build was boring). It's not on my 2010 shopping list, and I very much doubt I will buy this set, unless it's at a drastically reduced price.
