Bricklink Designer Program Trains Sets | 2024 & Beyond
RedBrick1 replied to RedBrick1's topic in LEGO Train Tech
LEGO continues to be good to Trains fans with another fantastic release through the BDP. Description: "The Brick Railroad Locomotive is a tribute to its iconic American prototype, a machine that holds a firm place in railroad history. One of its most defining features is the rounded front with its prominent headlight, giving the model an immediate and unmistakable silhouette. One of the biggest challenges during development was the side color pattern, built entirely from arches, round tiles, and other brick elements. The combination of vibrant yellow and deep dark blue creates a powerful and cohesive appearance. For added individuality, the front section can be customized using the included alternative bricks. To ensure the locomotive can be brought to life later on, the interior is designed to support motorization as well as lighting for the headlight and the driver’s cab. Alternatively, the model can also be equipped with two motors. In any configuration, the locomotive handles all current tracks with ease and is guaranteed to stand out on any layout." Goes up for pre-order on June 9th at $119.99. https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-8/2739/Brick-Railroad-Locomotive -
Yes, the color scheme is very close to an Operation Lifesaver CSX locomotive livery and the locomotive itself matches a modern American diesel/electric locomotive very closely.

Pleased with the apparent demand for this set. Hopefully we get more Trek sets for a long time to come!

2027... a bit of a wait! Kudos to LEGO for using the BDP to give Trains fans the trackside sets that would never sell enough to make a full run. This is another instant pickup for me! -

The end of an era.

The reaction to this on the other social platforms has been interesting. If you don't love it, you get hit with lecturing comments about supporting the brand/products. Personally, I just don't see the appeal of this set and don't mind people passing on it in favor of the many other Trains releases that are on the market. Money isn't an unlimited commodity.

After so many years of steam locomotives featuring large driving wheels, it's sort of strange to see a set regressing to the MOT 9V era with diesel-style bogies. LEGO has been on a roll with their recent train-related releases. I think this is their first miss in a while.

The Enterprise D saucer section is 100% an oval. The set captures the shape of the Galaxy-class nearly perfectly. --- I think the design of the set looks fantastic. I wouldn't have minded some more window decal sheets, but I can already hear the potential moaning if LEGO had decided to add some large sticker sheets. This looks to be a great, large-scale model without being un-displayable. An aftermarket lighting kit will be a must-have for sure. Ever since I was a kid, I've wanted a Star Trek LEGO set. (I spent way too much time building digital MOCs in LDD for uploading to the LEGO Universe Creation Lab...) No way I'm missing this release - a day one purchase.

A little more than halfway to a sell-out. Steady sales. Not as strong as the Castle-related stuff, but shows that there is still a passionate Trains related fan-base - albeit, a smaller one. https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-4/1184/Wild-West-Train -

Updated with the official render of the Old West Train. Another good year shaping up for Trains fans! -
It's possible. I think the main hiccup would be that LEGO has pushed 'modern/green' tech for their City line and would bristle at inserting a steam locomotive and historic cars into the theme. (One can hope though!)
