Another Question for the Interim: This is sort of a continuation of my last question. I asked which heroes we really want to see together. Those are doable, for the most part, especially if this game runs long. However, something else that's on my mind that we'll probably never get to see... BUT, which NPCs do you most want to see all hanging together in one quest? Should Gurnam meet Baba? Should The Order of the Crimson Crown Haroka join forces and crush Eubric? Should Jensen and Moranis have a show down? Or perhaps we want to see the Heads of all the Houses in one quest (this is the only one that I think is possible and I really want to see now that we've met almost all of them!). Alrighty, let's hear it!

Heroica RPG - Quest #28: The Breakthrough

"I'll sit out. I'd like to hold on to this gold for more than a day, if possible." Boomingham makes his way over to Docken. "Docken, do you think that would could possibly stop by Gurnam's again after this, and see if he knows anyone named Roderigo. They may have picked him off of reputation alone, but it's also possible he knows them... Helvetia, it's even possible that Gurnam knows Roddy by reputation as well. He seems to have a pulse on the town, at any rate. I also want to see if I can't convince him to make one of my blades hollow..." -
Who knew that Guts was even remotely noble.

Just to calibrate Sandy's story, my quests so far have has parties of the following sizes: 8, 6, 5, 4 (next planned one). You can see that it is decreasing. The reason? Running battles is tough and stressful. Don't over-extend yourself. I'm certain that you will run a good quest, and what you have looks awesome. If you don't want to edit it, run a really small quick quest before hand, four or five battles with just three or four players, and then jump into this one!

Heroica RPG - Quest #30: Ambassadors to Dastan
Zepher replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
The heroes rush back to U'Stus' house. It is dark inside. They try the door and find it unlocked. Felton leads the way up the stairs and to U'Stus' study. There, they are greeted by a disheartening sight. U'Vires is instantly recognizable. "Hello heroes. Please lead the way." The heroes walk in front of U'Stus and U'Vires, with U'Vires giving specific directions. They soon arrive in a banquet hall at the center of the house. A Dragon Knight and two pages, one of whom Atramor recognizes as Clara, stand at attention. Their eyes are glassy. Three U'Kin, one of whom Atramor recognizes as the Librarian, also stand, equally glassy eyed. U'Vires walks out from behind U'Stus and goes to stand with the other six, keeping his gun trained on the U'Kin Politician. Nyx is no where to be seen. "Heroes, allow me to explain what is happening tonight, heroes, so that you may pick the side that you truly want to be fighting for you can pick. I will be honest with you heroes I will be honest. I do not play games because I am looking to protect my people and move forward. The Dastan Empire has oppressed us for more years than we can remember we have been oppressed by the Dastan Empire. We have tried to move forward. The Empire has stopped us. I have taken matters into my own hands." "Today, I turn U'Stus into a martyr and raise my people to action by turning U'Stus into a martyr. U'Stus is a good U'Kin. I will not sully his death. His heart is correct, his actions are not. Tonight, a Dragon Knight and two pages broke into his house and murdered him along with his three U'Kin dinner guests were murdered. They fought valiantly and killed their attackers. It will show to the U'Kin that those who are peaceful are killed by our oppressors, but we have the power to fight back. I am no random murderer heroes. I have a cause. I look for progress for my people. I am not like Sphinx who hopes only to destroy, or Wren who looks only to improve herself. I have a goal, and it is a righteous goal that I have." "Now, I offer you a choice. You either side with me, and the heroes of Heroica fought to protect U'Stus, or you do not side with me, and the heroes of Heroica fell while trying to kill U'Stus. Which side do you pick, heroes?" U'Stus stares ahead with steely defiance. U'Vires matches his look. The six glassy eyed watchers stare down the heroes. -

Round Four Market Battle Felton - Phoenix Essence on Harkenshire Atramor heals Thothwick - Heal Less Tarn v. Bombster A - Extra Critical Hit Thothwick v. Cultist - Miss Harkenshire v. Cultist - Shield The battle continues. Felton ignores the heroes and revives William Harkenshire, who stumbles to his feet. Atramor heals Thothwick, but only slightly (+10). Tarn attacks the Bombster A, dealing a staggering amount of blows in a short time [([10x3]+14)x2=88]. Thothwick swings at the Cultist, but his flaming apparatus shoves Thothwick back (-3). Harkenshire fires at the Cultist and drops him, and then fires on both the Bombsters, killing Bombster B with a bullet to the head. As the burns sizzle (-2), Bombster A looks at the party in disgust. "They've probably set up by now. No point holding you here any longer. I'm just paid. No point to lose my life over nothing." Bombster A fires a quick fire blast that knocks everyone off their feet. When they stand back up, Bombster A is gone. The Battle is Victorious! I have come to this realization too. Also, one enemy as the boss takes away from the strategy a little because heroes essentially only have two choices - use an item, or attack that one enemy. If there is a mass of enemies you have to figure out who should get a free hit from who and if using an item that will result in a free hit is a good use of a turn. I doubt I will ever again have just one enemy as a boss.

QM Note: Thank you for the catch, that actually heavily effects the round. I'll be back in three hours (have social plans for the evening) and will edit the round accordingly! From the looks of it, the Cultist will still be (barely) up, William will still be down, and Thothwick will not be burned, with the Cultist's special activated. Plan for that scenario! -

Cultist Bombster B - Damage William v. Cultist Bombster A - Damage The battle continues. Felton jabs at Bombster A (-[5x2]+15=25) and Atramor focuses his energy on a friend instead of an enemy for a turn, healing Tarn to perfect health. Tarn, feeling good, attacks all three enemies (-12) (-24) (-24). The Cultist stumbles, muttering something about the Chimera. Thothwick flies at the Cultist, who lights a skin of fire around him. Boomingham winks at his elf friend. "Don't you worry dear. That fifty gold will be coming your way!" Boomingham slaps Nur on the back. "I'd be happy to... but I'm afraid I might need it next time we run across some vampires. But, if you'd really like to look after it, she's all your's. What do you think about the idea that I threw out? Is our employer worth looking into?" -

Boomingham nods curtly at Haldor and then addresses both he and Nur. "I've been sitting on an idea for a while, because I'm afraid that I may be off base with it. This may just be my idled old brain, but did we ever figure out who hired us? 'Smudged name from the Eubric chamber of torn off'? Why would they want us there? Heroes at an unveiling of an invention? Should we check that out, or are we barking up the wrong tree?" Boomingham then pulls Nur aside alone. "Care to loan a friend a gold piece or two... or more specifically 15? I'll pay you back when we finish the quest, swear to Ennoc." Barty rolls his little eyes. -
And I will ask in the C&D thread, because I've been confused as well. I think I've allowed people to do damage the way you described above for all battles so far, but I realized recently that doesn't make sense. If a super effective and a non-effective gem are in the same weapon, then the weapon does normal damage. By the same token, a normal and non-effective should just not be effective, right? I'm rather unsure... but that's what makes logical sense to me. That's the danger of elemental weapons. Any ideas anyone?

Maginastra was awesome. I'm super psyched to see where he goes and who his higher ups are! The guardians were beautiful as well. Nice quest my friend!

Round Three Market Battle Felton v. Bombster A - Special Damage Atramor v. Bombster A - Damage Tarn v. Bombster B - Damage Thothwick v. Bombster A - Hit William v. Cultist - Damage The battle continues. Felton flies at Bombster A, who fires a bolt of fire that Felton dodges and ends up burning Bombster B. Atramor runs at Bombster A, who continues to act against his own will. Instead of swinging at Atramor, he punches Bombster B in the face (-12). Tarn attacks Bombster B, who, angry over his wounds caused by an ally, swings viciously at Tarn (-12). Thothwick swings his new sword at Bombster A, but due to his swords fiery nature, it doesn't affect it (sorry, don't know if I've let you do damage before, but firey weapons shouldn't hurt the Bombsters...). William takes a slash from the cultist (-7). The burns do their thing (-2). Quick note on all the things I missed in the last... like 6 hours in this thread. Role playing is important. Don't get me wrong, it's why I play the game too. But one must keep it in check. Just as others must respect your want to role play, you must respect that other people want to move forward in a Quest. Likewise, make sure everyone is included. I try NOT to post, no matter how badly I want to, until two or three other characters have really had their say. It allows everyone to respond to those triggers, without rushing by them without giving them a chance to catch on. Second note: Be careful for your QMs. Most of us love role playing, but bear in mind that we want to move our quests forward, and that while your character has a story, so do the QMs, and ours usually involve intricate plots with many different characters... along with a time limit. If awesome role playing is streaming in at a constant rate, we're going to find a hard place to redirect you back to the main story. Final Note: I love that you're both Bionicle fans. That's totally cool with me, and using the story is a-okay too. But be careful to not bring it in too much, for a number of reasons. People who aren't fans might be confused, and might have a hard time responding. Likewise, we're having fun making our own world here, it might stifle creativity if another world is also involved. So... moderate role play, fitting within the perimeters of the quest, giving everyone a shot, and not hogging the thread from the QM's goals and your fellow player's goals. That's what we should be aiming for.
-
Endgame, I dig your role-playing quite a bit. I'd advise that you proof read though. Names and "I"s are capitalized. It's sad to be distracted by that sort of thing when reading an awesome post.

Round One Market Battle Felton v. Cultist - Hit Atramor v. Bombster A - Shield Tarn v. Bombster A - Miss Thothwick v. Bombster B - Critical Hit William v. Bombster B - Aim The battle continues. Felton stabs the Cultist in the bullet wound (-15) and Atramor fires off another blast of magic as Tarn rushes the same target. Tarn's swing misses as the wave of orange magic smashes into Bombster A, sending him flying into a wall. He hobbles to his feet. Thothwick has, at this point, mastered his sword, and swings it through the air, cutting through Bombster B (-[([15x2]+16)/2]=23) The blade releases a ferocious roar when it connects with the flesh of the Bombster. Another bullet grazes Bombster B (-5), and both Bombster A and Atramor are hurt by their burns (-2). Round One Market Battle Felton v. Cultist - Hit Atramor v. Bombster A - Special Damage Tarn v. Bombster A - Shield Thothwick v. Cultist - Damage William v. Cultist - Critical Hit William v. Bombster B - Aim The battle begins. Felton attacks the Cultist with his rapier, dealing a quick 15 damage. Atramor prepares to slash at Bombster A, but he fires out a flaming ball to burn the Witch. Atramor panics and does shoots out some of his own magic, and the spells rebound and burns both the Bombster and Atramor. Tarn, perhaps still high on his victory the previous day, perhaps wishing to get the battle over with quickly, goes into a frenzy and attacks all three enemies, hacking and stabbing and batting (-48)(-48)(-24). Thothwick, unaccustomed to the new sword's weight, can not lift it in time to block the sharp curved edge of the Cultist's sword which gouges him from shoulder to pelvis, running along his chest (-14). William fires off a quick shot (-(5x2)+12=22) that passes through the Cultist's shoulder before reloading and shooting again, skimming Bombster B (-5). Both Atramor and Bombster A are hurt by burns (-2).
