Sounds like it's only controversial as the town sets that year . Looking back at the 1997 catalogue it was a bit of a low point with heavy juniorisation and huge prefabricated parts. I was 9 then and went into my dark ages soon after. If they had sets as good as they do these days I would have most likely kept building a few more years.

Funny you mention this. I just bought a whole load of helmets and visors 15 minutes before reading this. Part of the order included this viking helmet in both black and tan. For anyone who has used brasso or similar to remove the coating, what was the finish like? I'm wondering if the stripped part looks as nice as a part that was never coated. Are the edges and details still defined as clearly?

Atlantis Backstory, Where Can I Find It?
Nintendawg replied to Hey Joe's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This really, really bugs me too. The second something is discontinued most companies just pretend it never existed. Web hosting of course costs money, but Im highly doubtful that is the reason considering the size of the thousands of PDF instruction files they have on their servers. My guess is that they want to prevent any customer confusion. Still, why couldn't they have a little archive section. Tuck it away at the bottom of the themes page under "discontinued" or something. That would be better. @ Miles - Someone asked about saving the Harry Potter section of site the other day. If you read http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=75141&hl= theres some details on snagging the content (games too!) -
I like the custom mini cannon idea. It's more compact than the official cannon which makes it look good on a small boat.

Eyes bigger than your stomach (or bricks)?
Nintendawg replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I actually have the opposite problem at the moment. I have bags full of parts I still haven't opened. Maybe my ideas are too overambitious. I need to start on a bit smaller scale maybe. -
I was also interested by the pokeball. Really good detail for such a tiny scale. Only problem with this minifig is that it makes me long for licensed pokemon Lego.

I think it's a really good idea. Castle builders can NEVER get enough grey, so helms deep will forever be useful even if it had nothing to do with LotR. I prefer the kingdoms figures to LotR figs also. That seems like a good deal (5 for 12 euro). The Kingdoms chess set is also a good way to get a large amount of castle minifigures cheaply. But that has 16 of each faction. If you just wanted one side, battlepacks me be better value depending on your countries pricing.

REVIEW: 6235 - Buried Treasure (from a MISB set)
Nintendawg replied to Boomchil's topic in LEGO Pirates
My mum put this on top of my birthday cake when I turned 5. Classic set. You are lucky finding all these old MISB ebay deals. I can never find any. -
Thats a very definitive answer deskp. What did you try? I was able to download Battle for Hogwarts flash game by just going to http://harrypotter.l...es/Default.aspx and going "File" > "Save page as". That was using firefox, it resulted in a 3.5 megabyte file so I assume it got the whole game. If you want the entire website though, complete with working links that is more involved. You need specialised software for that. I have personally had success with Offline Explorer but there are other programs along the same lines too. *edit* I was using firefox as my browser.

Wow, very interesting pictures. First thing that struck me is the colour scheme. I don't think theres been a theme before so far from the traditional colour palette. A few words on what I felt were more notable sets: Wak's Wolf Tracker - A strong resemblance to the Skull truck which was a bit of a shelfwarmer compared to the other Ninjago sets flying off shelves. Will history repeat itself or will it be a hot seller? I do like that the firing mechanism is spring loaded and not flick fire. Crawley's Reptile Gripper - Plastic wheel! Nooooo! I know tyres are costly, but other vehicles in this line have them. The look of this vehicle is a bit too strange for my taste. Equila's Ultra Striker - This is my favourite vehicle of the wave. Looks very sleek and cool, topped off with a striking colour scheme. Craggers Croc-Boat HQ - How many Eurobricks members are familiar with the Super Nintendo game Donkey Kong Country 2? Reminds me of the flying crock, even though that was more helicopter than boat. Looks like a nice set anyway.

Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
Nintendawg replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Thanks for letting me know about the free shipping on shop@home. I used it to get two hard to find things off my list, Minecraft micro world and Kingdoms Chess set. -
First set that popped into my mind was the Solar Explorer also. I got the set in a big mixed lot in 2009 or so. When I was building and when I got to the part where you fold the plastic sheet over, I remember being disappointed but thankful this terrible design did not become common.

Two mosaics - loose brick and light box and dolls house
Nintendawg replied to lorax's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The loose brick mosaic is very good. Looks like a big bucket of parts got poured onto the floor and happened to fall perfectly to create the logo. -
I had a similar idea last year actually. Only I was thinking $4 or $5 each for a whole minifigure. I was planning to fill it with mainly the newest CMF series, plus a handful of classic space, castle, town and pirate figs. But I don't think I've seen a machine over $2 here in Australia.
-
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Im sure I'll be complaing about local pricing in no time like a true Aussie AFOL (not really, I know it's terribly overpriced on some themes but I don't really have anything more to add).

As unfair as it may seem, one person having 20 of a certain figure is possible. All they would have to do is loiter around and buy the figs from people that aren't into Lego or DC/Marvel. Infact I think I remember reading reports of that happening. Even if you were paying attendees $50 for each fig, you would still multiply that with only very minimal work. I still believe these are too limited though. By making them so limited, Lego makes it easier to corner the market. Have any proven fakes surfaced yet?

I like this one. I was wondering how it was so well lit in the photos, but then I saw the zoomed out one and it has no roof. That explains it.
-
Would probably have to be the Ninjago Fire Temple new for $70 AUD. Thats my best so far I think. Im a bit jealous of the charity shop finds, I stopped checking them because the chances of Lego are just so low. Not surprising they hardly make it to the floor, i'd snap up any lego that came in too!

Hello everyone. I am another Australian fan. I don't build very much at the moment, still busy gathering parts. My favourite theme is castle, specifically '79-'92. Even though I'm only old enough to have only caught the very tail end of that line. Im also a MISB collector. Please don't hate me builders :). Other than Lego I also collect Playstation 2 games.

I was just at Myer and the lady there was helpful and explained how the discount works. As said, they don't stack in any way. I wanted to get three of the 22.95 city sets (catalog advertsed) but they came up as $60 total. An okay price, but they could be had outright at BigW earlier in the year for $20 each so I passed. I ended up getting 2x Star wars planet series and the monster fighters mummy set. But imagine the crazy deals if you could. I'd go 3x Sopwith Camel for $200!
