  1. Wow, most excellent prices on the Agents sets there :D. I expected the Agents sets to command a premium because it was the hot new line, but $100 for the Volcano Base is very cheap, as is the Mobile Command Centre. Myer just put their Toy Sale catalogue online (begins on Friday, July 4th) and the 2006 Cargo Train Deluxe is back in stock!. What a cool suprise, and it's only $160. It's been in my top 5 new must-have sets along with 2007 AT-AT for the last couple of months but I've been putting it off to buy old Lego. They even have the Eiffel Tower, svelte :D At Kmart, I'll be putting 10178 Motorized AT-AT and that cool Hasbro Endor AT-AT in the SW section of the catalogue on layby, then at Myer the 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe. Personally, it's not worth it to me missing out on cheap deals for late 80's/early 90's sets on ebay to instead spend money on brand new sets. As much as I want the new Dwarf & Troll sets at BigW, and the Coastguard sets, they'll be around for the sales closer to Christmas, which can get even crazier than the mid-year sales (25% of Lego IIRC at Myer last Xmas). I can't deny that I'm also interested in the giant town sets, such as Green Grocer, Town Plan, Market Street, etc. that are available at Myer and David Jones. One day they won't be there and I'll probably regret not getting one :( /begin rant Also, am I the only one somewhat dissapointed in the 2007, 2008 and the latest line-up of on Technic sets?. Where have all of the awesome functions of yesteryear gone?. The Off-Roader LOOKS awesome, but it doesn't have a gearbox or pneumatics. At least it's not as lame as those giant Technic Ferrari sets. AFOL's would go absolutely nuts for them if they at least had a gearbox, let alone a linked axles for the engine and interior steering, but they don't even have that despite 1300 pieces!. Why don't Lego see this?. These new linear actuators are just a cheap cop-out replacement for wicked pneumatics IMHO /end rant
  2. I know robbo, I meant get to the bottom of all of this sales business . I've been seeing the Dwarves Mine in Kmart, Target and even David Jones for about a month and a half now too. I feel sorry for all of these Americans who can't find one, because we've got heaps, at least in department stores around Brisbane, Queensland. The question is, should I get one now or later?. Is it going to be a limited edition set?. At 20% off it will only be $48 during the sales. I also forgot to mention that I spotted an undead set about a fortnight ago; the 2006 City Passenger Train in David Jones at Chermside (largest shopping centre in Queensland). It's got some pretty weak reviews, and the only reason I would want one is because of the prestige associated with Lego train sets, and that I always wanted one as a kid . I wish they would bring in the Cargo Train instead, that looks like a very detailed train set. At least it's cheap on ebay!
  3. I agree svelte. I certainly hadn't planned to pick up the Falcon anyway, mainly because I was a little disappointed to discover that despite 5000 pieces, it doesn't actually have a minifig-scale interior, or any interior besides the cockpit for that matter. I thought there would be gizmo's and gadgets and chess tables everywhere!. Aaand also because I've wasted invested $1200 on 90's Lego sets over the last couple of weeks (It was worth going hungry for that MISB 8480 Technic Space Shuttle) :D I hope to grab a Motorized AT-AT though, because it looks very cool, but the set I most want this year is the 7676 Republic Gunship. Beautiful and playable as you said. Can't wait for that one, and I suspect Target may get it in time for their sale on the 24th of July.
  4. I just found a post on the FBTB forums detailing the price of the UCS Falcon and Motorized AT-AT: UCS Falcon in Melbourne!! A poster named Michael claims that the Falcon is available right now and priced at $975 before sale and $775 at a 20% off Lego discount when the sale starts. The AT-AT will apparently be $179 after discount. Amazing! I have absolutely no idea where this guy is getting his prices though, except in store, but wouldn't somebody have posted about that yet?. The catalogue hasn't come online yet and the only access I had to the price-less sneak preview was from the Kmart email notification you can sign up for on their website. Why on earth don't people report these things here on Eurobricks, the first post was made on the 19th on FBTB :( Damnit, I am so going out to Westfield Chermside this weekend. I'm going to get to the bottom of this because there's a Kmart, Target, BigW, David Jones & Myer all in the one place. Humph *crosses arms*
  5. The Kmart Super Toy Sale sneak peek catalogue just came online and it's got some great suprises!. They're bringing in both last-years 10178 Motorized AT-AT and the 10179 UCS Millenium Falcon :D. I can't believe it!. They've also got all of the new Coastguard sets available now, which I saw in store at Toowong Kmart in Brisbane on the weekend. I would expect each of the upcoming sales to yield at least a 20% discount on Lego. There's no prices as of yet but you can view the Lego section here: Page 30-31 You can also view the BigW Lego sneak peek here. Frontpage - Page 30 - Page 31 So far we have previews of both BigW and Kmart's toy sales, both of which are beginning next Thursday, July 3. We've got brand new dwarf and troll Castle sets at BigW plus the complete Coastguard collection at Kmart, as well as 2 sets I never thought I would see in retail, the 10178 Motorized AT-AT and 10179 UCS Millenium Falcon :D
  6. But New Zealand gets it's own thread!. The mid-year Australian toy sales really are huge, and I think they deserve a temporary thread for the event, especially as the new sets (ie. MM, Coast Guard, etc.) will be appearing very soon. Anyway, people create threads for far more insignificant things around here. The sales won't start for another 2 weeks anyway, so when a thread pops up, it'll pop-up. I would like to think that I'm qualified to start one as I'm pretty up-to-date on Lego in Brisbane, because I'm always going shopping at different shopping centres. It's remarkable the difference in stock between stores of the same company, David Jones being a good example.
  7. My breath has literally been taken away. I went to the Eurobricks forums link first like I usually do, saw a snippet of text relating to the Death Star, said "no way" in my head, went to the frontpage and WHAM, Death Star playset out of nowhere. Holy hell, that is one amazing set. This is exactly what we had all imagined it to be, but even bigger!. I mean, I think everyone who has been following the Death Star playset discussion knew that it would contain some key scenes from the OT, but this is just so completely over-the-top. It's like TLC read our minds and had the exact same ideas. The price is stunning but it doesn't actually bother me that much. USD$400 is only about $430AUD. Buy it from ebay, factor in USPS shipping, and it should only set us Aussies back about $550 max. You would be insane to consider buying this on Shop@Home if you're an Aussie.
  8. Most 7261 Clone Turbo Tank's had 7 light-blue grills instead of 7 trans. light-blue grills as per the box and instructions, so I simply ordered some from the replacement parts page for the turbo tank and they sent them out to Australia in only 5 days!. I honestly wasn't expecting anything, but I got a wonderful suprise when the padded Lego envelope arrived out of the blue. I thought I'd have to go to Bricklink for the pieces :) This was only last month too.
  9. I live at Nundah, so the Aspley TRU is closest to me :). It's an epic journey getting there by bus directly though, so I plan on going into the city then getting a bus back out to Aspley next time I go. Last time I was there in late April, they also had heaps of the 2007 Y-Wings for $40. I picked one up when I got my Republic Cruiser.
  10. I've got the TRU catalogue as well and I was really suprised they even had the old X-wing back in stock, let alone at such a great price. BigW and Kmart are both launching their big mid-year toy sales in exactly 3 weeks too. This time of year is just so exciting for Lego bargains, especially the super-huge sets, I absolutely love it. I don't think I'd be able to handle it if Kmart got all of the new sets in, there would be too much to buy! I keep up to-date on catalogues via Lasoo.com.au. It's very useful for when your street doesn't receive a mail-out. I think us Aussies should have a dedicated thread when the sales start, we love Lego just as much as anyone else, and it's always fun sharing local info :D Edit: Aww, just saw the updated info in hewmans post. I hope there's some left in Brisbane TRU's :(. Don't forget about the red Republic Cruiser though, it's an absolutely wonderful set.
  11. Well flaps on Lego boxes are usually glued on it seems (the flap on my big Motorized Bulldozer box is glued on to the top of the box, then folded over the front to create the lift-up panel). The actual Mobile Command Centre box is normal, but the flap is folded over the back of the box, rather than the front. Maybe this is just an issue with the first production-wave. Anyway, here's the pic of the gap in the truck floor I mentioned. It's just a little to airy for my tastes. It sure does look tough on the outside though!
  12. Yay, my Mobile Command Centre has arrived!. It's just as amazing and wonderful as it looks in svelte's review. The vehicles are really vroomable and swooshable and the oversized buggy, which I thought might be my least favourite, is actually incredibly sturdy and fun. It's very reminiscent of the cars from the videogame Rollcage. The hover-jet is brilliant. It's really one of those sets that screams character and personality, and I haven't even built the trailer yet! I'm sad to say that the weakest part of the set IMHO is actually the front cab. It's very empty and there's only one little steering wheel for controls. There's even a gaping hole in the middle of the floor where a 6x2 plate should be. The agents could fall right through onto the road!. I'm surprised svelte didn't mention this in his review. The good thing is that there's lots of MOCing potential, and even enough space to build a mini-room between the very bottom of the truck and the underside of the cabin floor. My box-art is mixed around like yours, svelte. It looks like the lift-up flap was just glued on backwards.
  13. Sorry Mr. Mandalorian, I guess I was just getting a bit defensive because when this set first appeared here, there were literally 2 pages of people just bagging out the new MM sets (but then the thread took a turn and people started to warm to them, much like the Agents). I do agree that it definitely needs some MOCing, but with that work I think it has the potential to be a really amazing set in terms of what you could cram into it. The lab is a little disappointing, I've always wanted an enclosed cabin space in a vehicle this size because then all the little space guys can have a true meeting place! The drop-down landing ramp is my favourite part, it has lots of potential uses. Maybe it's even possible to integrate pneumatics :D
  14. I appreciate your review Mr. Mandalorian, but why the negativity?. I'd try to find more positives about the set instead of kinda criticizing it after each picture. I personally think it looks freakin' awesome!. The size is very impresive and I nearly fell of my chair when I saw the first pics earlier this year. It's quite unlike anything I've ever seen from Lego.
  15. These new sets are just totally off-the-wall radical :D. It's the little details like the scoops on the blades and the alternate alien energy source (Lego didn't even have to include those, but they did!) that show Lego are really getting back into their groove this year. The ability to add power functions is just so cool as well, I'm going to pick-up the Creator Monster Dino set for the electronics when the sales hit as svelte has suggested. A very entertaining review, just like the Agents mobile command center one :D
  16. I scored an amazing deal on a very well cared for 6285 Black Seas Barracuda for only $165!. Check it out, the auction page and pictures are beautiful: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=220241280080 What do you guys think?. This is my first second-hand lego purchase.
  17. It really is much better value to wait for the toy sales in Australia. They're so frequent here and usually about 15-20% off, sometimes even 25%. Infact, I've never actually purchased a Lego set at full-price, and I've bought 25 sets since I got back into Lego last year. I don't even buy Lego now unless it's on sale. Some of the Australian prices on S@H are ridiculous though. The UCS Millenium Falcon is $1000 for us, but it can be had for less than USD$500 on ebay. The Sancrawler is AUD$300, but only USD$140. I bought mine off Bricklink and saved myself $150.
  18. I love you svelte_corps, I was dying for someone to do a review!. I'm an Aussie and I've actually ordered one off Bricklink too!. Did you get yours from bruno's_bricks?. That was the first store that had them available. I sent them an email for a quote, then someone bought the one they had listed, but they offered me the extra one they'd bought at TRU :). I can't believe two Aussies ordered the same set at the same time from the same seller, and one did a review before anyone from the USA did, where the set is actually available!. It makes me proud to be an Aussie lego fan :D. Mine will be arriving this week, I can't wait, it looks like so much fun.
  19. Wow, thanks for the great heads up for us Aussies :D. I'm was tempted to order the new MM 7644 Hypersonic Operations Aircraft set a couple of days ago but I put it off because of the expensive express shipping. I might go ahead and order it now EDIT: Oh, just saw the post above . Is super-fast shipping a common experience or is it usually pretty unpredictable?
  20. I've seen them at Woolworths around Brisbane, Queensland as well. It's a torso-height orange cardboard stand, usually near the fruits & vegetables section where there's a bit of space. I saw the Mars Mission impulse sets there too, but it's been a while since I went to Woolworths so I'm sure there are Castle impulse packs now.
  21. Have the new Mars Missions sets been spotted in Australia at all?. According to a new ToysRUS catalogue here, the Troll Battle Wheel is available for AUD$60, so that might mean the new MM sets have arrived too. They're available for Australia on Lego S@H.
