Those tanks are brilliant simplicity. Having not seen the film, what is the curved yellow tube supposed to represent?

Really well done! I'm impressed at how many details of the ship you've been able to cram in on such a small scale, like the flaps and supports around the Firefly Drive.

Instead of enjoying a pint and minding my own business, I'm now a pointy-eared cyborg wearing Mandalorian battle armor and enjoying a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster. Before: After:

Hahaha, some of the creatures are a little representative, but here are the ones I had in mind with each one: Top row: Dolls, Dismemberment Goblin, Killbot, Sugar Plum Fairy Middle row: Hair Monster, Mutants, Blob (hard to see because it's recessed,) Floating Skull Bottom row: The Twins, Headcrab, Giant Ant, Scarecrows. The only ones that don't show up in either the movie or the illustrated guide are the floating skull, (though there is a floating head,) and the headcrab. Those I just put in because they looked scary. There actually IS a merman, kind of, in the construction. One of the cells on the side contains the headpiece for the Monster Hunters swamp monster. Unfortunately it just didn't look good enough to go in the front. In the lobby there's a giant scorpion, the Dragonbat, and the giant snake.

My entry for the Micro Sci-Fi Contest is inspired by my favorite movie of 2012: The Cabin in the Woods. It's a 3-level vignette showing the cabin itself, the army of nightmare creatures held beneath it in a high-tech prison, and the post-carnage elevator lobby beneath that. "This we offer in humility and fear." Here's a link to the full set of photos on Flickr.

Yeah, I was hoping it would get through, but not really surprised it didn't. What Inara does for a living aside, (even putting aside the actual sex scenes that are in the show,) there's plenty not suitable for kids. I think essentially the justification is this: should a little kid buy the set, like it, and want to see the TV show/movie, would it be something you'd let them see? Star Wars, sure, there's violence, but it's all very sanitized and sci-fi. Batman's the same way. Pirates of the Caribbean is pushing it, but it's all still very Disney in the levels of violence it portrays. Firefly's very first episode, on the other hand, has the line, "They'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skin into their clothing. And if we're very lucky, they'll do it in that order." So you know, there are levels of what's appropriate. I doubt LEGO wants to turn into the toy companies of the 80's that made kid-marketed action figures of Robocop.

I'm definitely late to the party on spotting this, and I see the conversation has moved on a bit, but man, I really, really hope this gets made. Firefly is my absolute favorite TV show ever. I posted a Serenity build of my own here last year, so I'm definitely behind this.

Just saw this one the other day. LEGO shows up in the 4th episode, titled "Transitions," of the 5th season of HBO's series The Wire. There's a scene where Detective Kima Greggs is spending some time with her son Elijah. She dumps out a bucket of LEGO and the two of them start building a house for one of his action figures. I don't have a link to a video, but here's a summary from Television Without Pity that mentions the scene.

We have some new arrivals! The Lannisters The Baratheon Brothers Unfortunately I've never owned McGonagall in any form, so I don't have any of her dresses, and I never got that hair piece in blonde. Instead, I gave Cersei a white dress with a dark green cloak, and Ilsa's hair from the Venice Canal Chase. I'm happy enough with how she turned out.

I've been having some trouble with a good dress for Cersei, so I've held off on posting the Lannisters as a whole. They and the Baratheons are coming shortly. :)

Unfortunately, I have no idea. I wasn't counting as I built it. I can say it's 76 studs long, 46 studs wide, and 22 studs tall at its highest point. (The top of the bridge.) I'm sure that doesn't do a thing to answer your question, but hey, dimensions are fun, right?

Hah, I almost did, but that's actually several lines later than the part where he says, "It is my very favorite gun." I believe it proceeds somewhat like this: "Are you offering me a trade?" "A trade? Hell, it's theft! This is the best damn gun made by man. It has extreme sentimental value. It's miles more worthy than what you got." "What I got? She has a name." "So does this! I call it Vera." "Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."

I've seen the technique used a couple of times before, so I can't claim ownership, unfortunately. Can't remember where I saw it, though. And yeah, the characters aren't a direct 1:1 with the TV show characters. In some cases, I tried to make them look like the characters on TV, (and the Starks at least, all came out about right for that,) but in other cases, I built the characters more like I saw them in my head when I was originally reading the books. And obviously, there are some characters who haven't appeared in the show yet. :) Thanks everyone for the great response!

After finishing my last big project I've been dragging my feet on starting another one, so in the meantime I've been cranking out minifigs of the characters from the book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. It's been in the news a lot lately thanks to the HBO series based on it, Game of Thrones. WARNING: The following images may include spoilers for fans who have only watched the show and not read the books! Still with me? Great! I've made about 30 minifigs overall, 24 of which I've gotten up online. Here are a few group shots: The Starks: Arya, Jon Snow, Robb, Catelyn, Ned, Bran (with Hodor), Sansa, and Rickon Daenerys Targaryen and friends: Arstan Whitebeard, Ser Jorah Mormont, Khal Drogo, and Illyrio Mopatis The High Council: Littlefinger, Grand Maester Pycelle, and Varys You can see the rest on my Flickr.

I came out of my dark ages a few years ago, post-college, and while I built a few small things here and there, the whole living-in-a-series-of-small-apartments thing meant my LEGO collection remained in storage in my parents' garage, which put a restraint on building. Once I finally moved to an apartment where I had space for my entire collection, I decided I wanted to try something big, something that I loved. I decided to build Serenity, from the movie of the same name and the TV show Firefly. Having worked on her off and on since October 2010, I finally finished her over Memorial Day weekend, and I wanted to post it here. So here's Serenity. I'm incredibly proud of her, and I hope you all enjoy her as much as I do. More images can be seen at my Flickr photostream.

I am King Pharoah the Third, King of Kings with redundant names. Look upon my 16 pieces, ye mighty, and despair.

Aquanaut 1 - Introduced those sweet helmets and visors, and of course the now ubiquitous flippers. "Aquanaut 1" was the guy with the headband, whose head is the best of the three in my opinion. Blacktron 1 - Everything about these guys screamed "bad to the bone." A lot of my friends' old LEGO collections have five or six of these guys apiece. I don't even have one. Cloud City Boba Fett - Again, not one I have myself. I have his brother with the non-printed legs and arms, but Cloud City came out during my dark ages. How I wish I had one, but I'm not paying the ridiculous prices for one on BL. Majisto - Oh, how we take wizards for granted these days. Back in the day, Majisto was Senor Sorcerer Numero Uno and I and all my friends HAD TO HAVE HIM. Wild West Cavalry - I've used these guys in more MOCs than I can count now. They look great, and I've fit them in to all kinds of themes: wild west, (of course,) post-apoc, even space.

I recently picked up Space Skulls, and it came with one extra 2x4 white plate, but was short one 2x6 white plate. Also, it was missing four of these in dark bley, and instead I got four extra of these in black. which meant I was unable to finish the small skullbot. Fortunately, a quick missing parts order to LEGO got me the necessary pieces in less than a week.

In some cases, sure. I mean, one of the cyborg-style heads wouldn't work, but gold teeth are absolutely appropriate for a pirate and would provide another way to get the head.

Or such transparent containers. Exposing beer to sunlight degrades the quality of the fine ambrosia within. That's why most come in dark bottles. It certainly wouldn't be shipped in transparent kegs. My guess is toxic waste.

Since I got the 6209 Slave 1, I've resolved that Dengar and IG-88 need their own ships. I just finished Dengar's Punishing One, and I'm really proud of it. Getting the curvature of the wing was tough. The IG-2000 is next. After that, I plan on making Bossk's Hounds Tooth. I made a solid Bossk minifig by putting an orc head and hands on a yellow-striped clone torso, with yellow arms and legs, so he'll be getting a ship too. I'd love to try and make a decent Zuckuss and 4-LOM so I could have the whole bounty hunter lineup, but I really have no idea how to work that.

Wow, it was a total coincidence that I happened to pick today as my first time ever visiting a LEGO store! I went by the one at the Burlington Mall in Massachusetts, and everyone who walked in the door got to make and take home a free minifig from a box they had! The box had mostly just Speed Racer torsos, but I put together a minifig of Racer X's helmet, Snake Oiler's head, and Taejo's awesome jumpsuit! For FREE! Then I actually shopped. I got 8632 Swamp Raid, 7656 General Grievous Starfighter, 8631 Jetpack Pursuit, 2x 5612 Police Officer (DOGGIES!), and the Vintage Minifigure Collection Vol. 1. On top of THAT, purchases of $75 or more got a FREE "Birthday Box" you could fill from the Pick-A-Brick wall! (Mine was $80, so free PAB for me!) They also had Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, and the UCS Millenium Falcon all assembled in display cases, so it was cool to see them assembled in person for the first time. Best. Store. Ever.
