  1. Lego is weird when it comes to Christmas. They seem to want punters to buy the stuff released in autumn at Christmas time, then have a launch for new product on 1 Jan. Especially the exclusive stuff.I guess they want people filling stockings with £12 sets, not CMFs.
  2. They are likely to remove many of the licensed parts over the downtime or soon after. Last year, the ghostbusters torsos were free for a few days but then got changed to a real value, then disappeared.
  3. Yes, it grew out of replacement parts.
  4. The legs are considered an assembly. However they often get prices wrong (always the 5c ones) and just charge you what it should be rather than what it was listed at, without telling you. There are a few torsos like that too.
  5. Remember "he" (the minotaur) didn't exist. Even in Greek times there were different forms of him in the myths (and statues), usually with a bull head and tail at minimum, in some cases the rest human and in some cases just a human torso. And his form has changed with fashions throughout history. For example, Dante's Minotaur has the top half of a man and the body of the bull (much more like a centaur than the classic minotaur).
  6. Because in the CMF designer video they explicitly stated that they try to make the ones they think are going to be popular the most frequent ones. I think that this is the only public statement they have made on frequency (apart from their actions).
  7. Traditionally he was part bull, part man. However, a lot of modern fan art depicts him more bull like with the upright form of a man. I quite like the shaped legs on the minotaur.
  8. It's not quite that simple (if woman aren't standing for election they cannot be voted for, etc), but that is a whole other debate not for here. Plus I doubt many people would want generic minifig politicians - they are fairly boring outfits. At least lego are giving us women a little more frequently now (in variety not number), it is just such a shame that recent history shows that they think they are unpopular in the CMF series. This can be the only explanation that they are giving female characters the less frequent numbers in series. It's not really a problem for someone that buys loads, I have no difficulty getting the characters I want. Fortunately there are a good number of torsos appearing in City sets these days for it not to be too big a deal if you like to mix and match. Again, good for bigger spenders but not great for younger girls wanting to get female characters in minifig (rather than minidoll) form. I like the way that playmobil do their collectable characters series. They have a girl theme and a boy theme. Of course nothing stops boys buying girls and girls buying boys, but at least a parent can easily choose the gender of the character if they are just buying one.
  9. Obviously depends on your age. Johnny Weissmuller is known just for Tarzan (and swimming). He played Tarzan many times. Whereas Christopher Lambert doesn't really spring to mind when thinking about Tarzan, and Tarzan doesn't spring to mind when thinking about Christopher Lambert.
  10. But does contain a common (in real life) farm animal in a cheap set this time.
  11. Really? Fossil hunter's body parts and headgear, Indian's turban, evil wizrad's robes, the egyptian, the King's body, crown/hair and beard, battle goddess, princess, hun, lifeguard's torso, jester, wizard. And that's just thinking about historical / mythological ones. Add in fantasy and there is the goblin. Add in City and there are some good new figures such as pizza guy, gamer, carpenter, etc. There are so many good figures in S12 and 13, I cannot see how they can be labelled as awful. Anything that is a "3" will be desirable anyway. Even if a character is unpopular, making it a 3 drives its desirability. The algorithm to decide frequency seems to be quite easy to understand, at least for assigning the low frequency ones: Female? 3.
  12. I bought the set for £50, then sold the figures at £5-6 each and Smaug at £45. So I got paid £15 or so after fees to take all the bricks. :-) And in the brick vs molded design for Smaug, I'm definitely on the side of molded for the general set. A nice brick build one would have been nice as a static display piece (probably away from the sets), but not for play.
  13. The problem is it is only existing fans that would buy them (at least initially at full RRP). It's getting people that didn't originally buy into LOTR lego to buy them that will be tricky if it is known that there will be no other new sets containing eg. the Fellowship. I would also love to see them, but I doubt it will be through regular sets. The only real hope is through Dimensions now.
  14. What proof do you have that they are less quality plastic? They aren't different plastic. The fakers are ABS too. And also the $5 bag is not necessarily any worse quality than the $1000 Gucci bag. For example, in jeans / denims manufacture, many superstore brand jeans are being made in the same factory as high end designer jeans. Often from the same material stock on the same machines. Just different designs and different labels are sown on.
  15. Remember Lego STOLE the idea and dimensions in the first place. Lego is based on being a clone brand at inception.
  16. Very nice extras to look forward to for those of us (un)lucky enough to still be in!
  17. If you look back at the voting, they are all ranking well above average. TLM and S10-12 have a biggest peak for Above Average rather than Outstanding, and I didn't go all the way back so may have missed some. It makes you wonder what average means, when every series is above average! Series 13, 14 and now 15 have every single female character produced as the least frequent. S12 was slightly better, having the battle goddess and dino tracker at 4 instead of 3. There is clear gender bias going on in the CMF series. Your reviews for CMF are one of the most important as they are normally the first out. This type of information should be pointed out and hopefully fed back to lego.
  18. Arvo Brothers are now selling their Alien Project book. SPOILER: it is wonderful :-)
  19. So buy the parts you want from a reseller on bricklink.
  20. It's funny you should say it is the "the minifigures which we normally need to obtain just a few are given the distribution ratio of three". It is all the female figures that are given a distribution of three. You also say this about the satyr's legs: "It's the first of its kind to be ever created from the usual standard minfigure legs." This is not true. There are the pirate legs and the robot legs that also deviate from the standard minifigure legs.
  21. It's been a while since I read this thread, so these are replies to rather old comments. I agree with this. One of my kids loves Chima. He saw a couple of episodes online (we don't get it on TV here) and didn't really like it. But he loves playing with the animal minifigs and vehicles. He makes up the stories perfectly well. Some lions are good, some bad. Some of the crocs are good, some bad. And so on. He can of course refer to the "official" story if he wants to and make up action based on what he has seen, or he can completely ignore and make up his own stories. He prefers the latter. I'm not sure it would. It would sell to people who already have LOTR, but it would lead to confusion to others. Why make a single set with Eowyn and Witch King when customers cannot buy Frodo and the other Hobbits, or Aragorn, or Boromir, etc. To get shelf space, a small set needs to be part of a range. Major retailers here in the UK dumped Hobbit sets (50% off within weeks of release). Whether that was on lego's orders or their own, I don't know. But they wanted rid of the Hobbit quickly. I doubt they would buy into a single small LOTR set.
  22. 60's flip ... French braid
  23. I'd say Mega bloks and Kreo are clones (just as lego was originally) as they make similar parts to be compatible with each other. Neither of these companies pretend to be lego. Brickforge and BrickWarriors also make compatible parts but they are Customs (to me). I don't think either of these two types hurt lego. We need lego to have competition from major manufacturers. Without MB, lego wouldn't need to keep on it's game (and it is slipping a bit in quality as it is, but riding high on popularity at the moment). BF and BW don't harm lego at all. They are such small scale and make things that lego don't. They get hurt when lego start making things that they specialise in. Then there are the fakes - I dout these have much impact on lego. If they did, then lego would do something about it. But they don't seem to care when an event that they are present at also has stalls selling copies of lego minifigures. They are sold, but I imagine many of the sales go to people that weren't going to buy the lego set anyway.
  24. No, we need more minidolls and more minifigures. Minidolls are very popular among certain groups of young girls (and some young boys) in a way minifigures are not. And some adults like them too.
  25. I guess the problem with Inside Out is that they will probably just about be sellable next year. The year after they will be forgotten about by the majority. So they either do all five in S1 or forget about them. Personally, I have no interest in them. The classics (Mickey et al, Pan and Hook, the Aladdin ones) I'll get if good enough. Tarzan and Jane, meh. If they are real, I hope they do 3 frequency for those. Presumably they will be fleshie though, so the Tarzan torso might be useful as a part rather than as a minifig.
