In that set it's not an advantage, but if you want to put several signs on the same pole, that kind of construction makes sense.

A new office will be built and the architect has now handed in the final proposal: Construction will start this weekend with a check for which parts will not be needed.

I like this set, but I can't give it a good grade for playability, as the rearmost hinging section is too stiffly hinged, so when you open it, it's likely to break if you hold it just over the shovel and broom. My truck thus has that function, and with it of course the whole container tipping, disabled. I also moved the cab a bit forward and the front axle rearward to give the cab the typical garbage truck look, as they are often very low slung. This also created space behind the cab for some equipment.

Recemtly completed a small tool shed for someone's garden: And a corner shop (exactly what it's selling is not clear): LDD files at Lego Factory

Good design, nice proportions and the right level of detail. Like it a lot.

Grimeton now has more than one building, so it's finally a town. Discussion: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17531 Just the photos: http://www.canit.se/~griffon/lego/lfg.html (many of vehicles which may not necessarily be part of the town)

I have now settled on a colour scheme for the new ambulance, it's white with green/light green panels. The service/maintenance van has gotten blue and orange panels. And just when I've settled on this, I've come back from a country where it's the ambulances which are white with orange and blue stripes... A new really small car (it's maybe actually a motorcycle or moped) and a small taxi. Note that the colour of the driver's hands is due to him wearing gloves. I got tired of the bus being blue/white, as many cars get these colours due to parts availability. It, and the two bus stops, are now grey/yellow with tan roofs.

The 4996 in cafe configuration has gotten a red/white tiled floor and outdoors new sunshades and more chairs and tables. For part of its power needs, two wind turbines have been installed. Or possibly they are being installed in this photo, as both service cars are there. Both the good part of the sun shades and the wind turbine are available at Lego Factory, if you want to see how I made them.

Yes, it's impractically small for the passengers, but it's supposed to be a small bus for 10-15 passengers, not a regular city bus. It's pretty easy to make wider though, and I'll try that as now I've got a 6-wide ambulance which I didn't have when I designed it.

Designed in LDD and now made real. Found a small error while building, now corrected. The side dumper works, but it's bi-stable; Partially dumped it will fall over. It's simply too top heavy for the rocking rear axle. Colour matched with the bus stop. LDD files available here: My designs at Lego Factory

The first is an old surplus military truck (from 7622). Cab roof removed (but it can be refitted when the season requires), flatbed sides altered, corner markers moved so the driver can see them. Second is an ambulance (7890), intended to replace the old one. It's not finished yet, paint scheme is still trialled. If I go for light green/yellow, there'll be some more blue trim. Could also get some kind of checker pattern with four stacked 1x2 plates. The plate behind the radiator grille is now black instead of white. Looks much better.
-
Neat! I wouldn't even have thought to try it in only 4 stud-wide. Looks good.

It's basically the 40-year old 343 set with a few changes. 1) The central exhaust stack looked wrong (and missed two pieces), so I replaced it with two side mounted stacks. 2) I don't think a blue lantern=green, so I changed red and blue to red and green and placed them to the sides instead of in front of the captain (and this way the port lantern doesn't show on the starboard side. 3) Thickness added to the superstructure. Originally, the plate in front of the windows was all there was. Grimeton does not have a rail network, but I left the rails in place for possible future use.
-
Some further refinement, before ordering pieces for them. The side dumper has been shortened, as has both drawbars. LDD file here: http://www.canit.se/~griffon/lego/ldd.html

I think I've settled on orange pillars for the log trailer. Made a longer version (so I could fit 3 hinges, for stability, but it might look a bit too long) as a side dumper. And two small tractors.
-
A small trailer for logs. I haven't decided if the risers should be round or square, but I'm thinking square would be stronger both in Lego and in the real world.

Grimer and Röskva have gotten a new kitchen. Grimer tests the new bed. The house has gotten a larger balcony and the garden has been re-arranged.

It is, and the cylinder is a compressed air tank.

If it was 8 wide, it would look too large compared to other vehicles I have. And I've never found the inside of a real one exactly crowded. I'm planning on 1x2 plates for books, but first I'll reinforce the structure. Probably the front needs total redesign too. This is a problem with LDD compared to real building, when you move parts around you have no feel for if it's going to stay together or not.

Digger updated with some steps to climb.
-
Now it's built: Looks alright, but the design isn't very good. The front hangs from a single off centre stud, I forgot a piece in the floor construction so there was an airgap and the plate which supports the door is itself only supported on one side. With a bit of rebuilding it'll be approved for traffic in Grimeton. More photos here

I'm impressed you get in so much detail in such limited space and still it doesn't look overstuffed. Very well done.

Apart from colour variations, and the final version of the bus (I'll make one which doesn't require the front from the doctor's car and it turned out the wheels fell off to easily in this version), they're available here.

More public transport: A bus stop and a taxi. Taxi LDD file Doors are a problem. If they came in more colours, I'd probably use them more than I do. All cars have been modified a bit, so this is the current line up: Cars v2 LDD file

Time for some public transport. A small bus. It's not colour finished yet. I use LDD to try out different ones, for now white/blue or tan/green are the main options. We also need a mail van. More or less standard, but with a few small adaptions.
