Dark Knight Rises - Custom Minifigs
DarkKnight7 replied to DarkKnight7's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I just finished the Joker from the Dark Knight and just figured I'd add him to this post instead of starting another. It's from a decal created by someone here at the Minifig Customization Network that I found on Google and I just redid the shirt to be more like the one from the movie. I've also posted the altered design in case anybody would like to use it, too. Thanks again for all the great comments! -
My son caught me looking at these and really wanted to have your Iron Patriot decals. So, using some of the pieces we had around the house, I made one...crudely. I applied the decals as stickers, so you can see some edges on them and they didn't particularly take to the legs. The head was originally yellow and I just Shapried the head red (though it is starting to rub off...wish that would stay!). I didn't have any red hands either, so just kept the yellow ones. Either way, my son loves him and I think he looks pretty cool...even with the stickers! Thanks again for providing such great work for all of us to benefit from, ED209, my son and I appreciate it! Take a look:

That would be perfect, huh! Too bad I don't have either...would be cool to see someone post that if they had both... Funny you say that, my kids said the same thing when I finished with him. I might do one later on down the line. I'll repost here if I do. Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you guys like it!

Hi everyone, Here is a pic of the first decal work I ever did on a Lego. My kids are huge "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" fans and really wanted a Willy Wonka to play with for their Legos. This one actually got me interested in customizing Legos...been hooked ever since. For Willy Wonka, I applied custom face, torso, and leg decals (you can see I still wasn't good at decal applying back then...and it still hasn't improved ) The hat has a decal for the ribbon. I also cut a hair piece and super glued it to the top hat. The cut job was pretty amateur to say the least as you can see it is a bit off (off kilter a bit). Hope you all like. As usual, I'd love to hear your feedback and comments. Real one:

Ditto here, too. Tried to do a quick Captain America blue head for my son over a yellow head and even after a day it came right off onto his fingers. I too want to hear a solution!

Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid Minifig
DarkKnight7 replied to DarkKnight7's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks for the comments everyone. Thanks, "The Blue Brick", I actually agree...the face needed a bit of work, the eyes needed to be adjusted and I wasn't the happiest with the mouth. I've included the decals above now, including my new face design...let me know what you all think. And I'm glad you all liked it! -

Thanks again for the comments everyone, I really appreciate hearing your great feedback!! I just remembered that I needed to post the decals for Rooney above, so I've added them in if you are interested in them. Hope you like them and would love to see anyone that uses them (and applies them better!) -

Thanks "Blue Brick", appreciate the feedback...and I won't hold it against you that you're a Gunner fan Funny you should mention it, I was just finishing up on a Robin Van Persie design. This is using the new 2012/13 Home kit, and would work best on a figure with a red torso, white arms and legs, and I'd suggest using the dark brown spikey hair and spray paint it black (similar to what I used on Ronaldo - see other post). I won't have time to apply it to a figure for quite some time so maybe I'll post it here for you if you'd like. You will need to adjust it to fit the figure, I usually just copy and paste onto a Word document and shrink the width down to 0.60 or 0.61 inches. This is a first pass, but I think should be good. Let me know what you think. Clear Decal Paper Head: Back Decal: -
Dark Knight Rises - Custom Minifigs
DarkKnight7 replied to DarkKnight7's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks guys, appreciate the comments and feedback! Yeah, I agree with you on Batman's pale face. I'm really disappointed with the quality of the prints on the decals, as the designs have so much more detail and are much sharper than the decals show. My printer is a very basic inkjet and is not very good so my best option in town is the FedEx Office laser printers, which is better, but still not to the quality I'd like to see. I also had to use white decal paper for the face on Batman, to allow the white teeth to show, but it is difficult to match the skin of the lego with how it actually prints...as even FedEx Office's printers are not very accurate. That's the first reason I started looking into machine printing. -
I have finished the first of several custom soccer/football minifigures. I've already posted my Real Madrid version of Cristiano Ronaldo, so I thought I'd post the rest in just one thread and add them as they become finished. Here's the first: Wayne Rooney - Manchester United (2011/12 Kit) Custom Front, back torso, and head decals. I had painted his hair on the top with acrylic paint to try and match the decal hair...fairly close but hard to match the printer (and I'm new to this small detail painting stuff ). Also, still working out how to get the arm patches on...the clear decal paper doesn't work, as the color of the arm is too dark, and I keep nicking up the white decal paper. Will post when I figure it out. I've added the Decals (recommended resizing to 0.60" in Microsoft Word to print): Rooney Flesh Rooney Clear Robin Van Persie - Arsenal Home 2012/13 Kit (see in post below) Lionel Messi - 2011 Barca Kit Back Here's the decals: Clear Decal Paper (face at least) Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United 2008 Home Kit This was my favorite soccer year as a United fan and favorite player that year. I think I like this flesh color better than my other, and the decal turned out MUCH cleaner than my Real Madrid figure found on this post. I would say the face design looks much better and is more useful for us decal'ers because there's no smile to fill in. I used a white marker to fill in the dots of the eyes (brushed them up a bit for the pic ). As you can see, I murdered the application of the waistline decal...still...nothin a little Sharpie can't help out. Here's the decals: For those who still like the dark flesh color: Here's the regular flesh color: Back Decal More to come: Drogba As usual, would love to hear your feedback on these! Hope you enjoy!

I was going to wait until I finished the rest of the cast (Officer Blake, Commissioner Gordon, Alfred, Lucius Fox, etc.), but I figured since the Dark Knight Rises is coming out tonight at midnight, I'd share the big three that I have finished already. I am currently in the process of trying to set up a machine print of all of these, as well, and hopefully that will get resolved soon, as I'd like to offer these as soon as possible (as many of the neighbor boys would like to get their hands on these ) When it happens, I'll let everyone know here if you are interested. These decals were all custom designed and applied via clear decal paper for the heads and stickers for the torsos and waist sections - as I've found it is really difficult to apply white decal paper without getting some loss of ink here and there...and stickers keep the detail just as well). Bane Head decal wraps entirely around the head. (Saying it was difficult to get on perfectly and aligned...is an understatement!!) As you can tell, it was difficult to align it right, and because of that, I had a little scuff to the side of the head decal. Torso and belt were applied fairly easily and turned out okay. Just wish I had access to a more high quality laser printer...FedEx Office laser prints are not up to par in my opinion. Also, would have used a sand green torso if I had one, instead. Catwoman/Selina Kyle She has two faces; one with her goggles lowered, and one without. The detail in the torso decal is lost, unfortunately, due to the lack of quality in the laser print out, but her body has a texture to it in the background to match her suit in the movie. Also, unfortunately, I designed some leg decals to go with to show her boots, but it didn't quite work out...I'll work on those and post those later as they are fixed. The hair is the closest Lego has to what she has in the movie, and I think it works out alright...if only I could attach some goggles to the hair piece...but that is above my level of expertise here. Batman I just did a new face decal and a torso one for him. Tried some arm decals but I am currently reworking them and if they work out, will post some updates. Decals: These decals are released under the Creative Commons licence found here. So feel free to use and share, but I'd appreciate being credited, and please ask if you are interested in using it to sell. Officer Blake Clear paper version: Sparkle eye version, for those that prefer more traditional Lego faces: Clear Paper version: I've created a mockup of how I think it might look best...this is NOT a real figure, but the pieces I think it would look best with...not sure what hair would be best to create a realistic look from his character in the movie. Bruce Wayne - Recluse This is a version from the beginning of the movie, where he is in hiding and looks gaunt. I wasn't sure what face looked most appropriate for how frail he was then, so I included both. I used the following pics for reference: The face was also based on the TDK Bruce Wayne figure pictured here at Firestar Toys. Clear Decal: The Dark Knight Joker This is my edited version of a decal by a person at the Minifig Customization Network. You can find the original decal here. I applied only a couple of light coats of green paint to a Dastan hair piece, as the movie Joker had a bad dye job and had some of his darker roots showing. I loved the original decal, but didn't think it had the proper shirt underneath, so that is the only thing I tweaked. Anyway, thought I'd share a pic and the altered decal. Note: if the original decal artist doesn't want this posted, I would be glad to take it down. Altered Decal: Hope you all like them, I'd love to hear your feedback! And...getting psyched to see what Nolan has in store for us in this last chapter...but I'll have to wait until next week unfortunately! (Family vacation first)

Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid Minifig
DarkKnight7 posted a topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Hey everybody, I've been admiring this site for some time now and picked up a few things here and there on Minifig customizing and thought I'd take a shot at it, as my kids are just starting to get into Legos (and it rekindled my own love for them). Thank you all for sharing such great information on how to do it, your advice has helped immensely!! So, I started designing my own designs using Inkscape and while I'm in the process of MANY custom figs, thought I'd post my first try. As a big fan of international soccer (or futbol as some of you may call it), I thought I'd try my hand at a few of my favorite players. First up was Cristiano Ronaldo in his Real Madrid home jersey. When I finished him, I noticed a few things...1) I think i've got the hang of the decal designing and sizing, 2) I don't have the hang on quality decal application (I admire those of you that are good at it...MAN it is tough!!), 3) my "tan skin" looking head turned out to be a bit TOO tan...even for Ronaldo, and 4) don't apply toothy smiles to face decals...or you will have to fill them in! (which is not easy). The head, torso, arms, and legs feature custom designed decals, horribly applied by me (as you'll notice the nicks to the paint here and there). The hair was custom painted in black to match Ronaldo's. I was also, as previously mentioned, forced to apply some white to his smile, via very fine point paint pen. Won't do that again. Hope you like and would love to hear your feedback on him!! I'm officially hooked on this customizing stuff and look forward to sharing more and learning more from all you customizers out there! As I said, I'm working on a lot of other figs, so coming later this week....Soccer: Ronaldo (2008 Man Utd jersey), Rooney, Messi, and Drogba; Tiger Woods; Dark Knight Rises: Bane, Batman, and Catwoman; Willy Wonka (Depp version); and Maximus - Gladiator Movie. Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid - Custom LEGO Minifig by DarkKnightCR7, on Flickr Ronaldo - Real Madrid.Lego.BackPic by DarkKnightCR7, on Flickr I've also included the decals for you, if you'd like to make your own. Due to some feedback, which I agree with, I've redone the face a bit and inserted it into the designs. If you plan to print them off, you will need to resize them (I would suggest 0.60 in. width in Word). Decals: New Face Serious Face For Clear Decal Paper: -

Nice job on these! I particularly like the Peter Parker one...looks just like the actor! Would love to see what these look like on actual minifigs! -
Gotta agree, love the Sabbath ones...you do such smooth and great designs!

Looks like a great recreation of the real figure...good work! As stated above, I would just maybe utilize the line customization features in Illustrator (rounding of ends, adjusting thickness, etc.) and you'd have it perfect! (One of the perks of Illustrator that I wished Inkscape had!) Looking forward to your future creations! -
These are great designs. I too am not too fond of the headgear for the Iron Man fig. I understand why it is that big...but they should have just gone with a simpler helmet or just a head. Can't wait to try these as decals...once I master this decal business

How is machine printing done?
DarkKnight7 replied to nemesis4670's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Has anyone had Christo do custom printing for them? I live in the U. S. and would consider it for a few designs that are sellable but, I'd like to hear others experiences using Christo for his services. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
