Yeah true but looking at the plane parked at the end of the runway, I don't think the plane will be able to touch down at the threshold anyway.
-
Exactly! It brings life to a model. You can easily imagine a life around it
-
Wow you didn't an amazing job here. I love the fact that you'vre been able to fit two crew in the cockpit. Nice job on the nose too. It's not that easy to reproduce.
-
Wow that's a really nice airport you built here! For the details/lights on the runway you could have also done something like this: I didn't draw the numbers or the sides and center lights. A Displaced thresholds on the terminal end of the runway would have make sense. For the lights, runways are not necessary always equipped with ramp lights. It can be very simple when you don't have any instruments approach as you can see on my drawing (2 lines of green and red at each end, the green lights facing out). But that's just details, great job anyway!

That's sound even better I have no idea If I will still be able to finish my 747 but who knows! I might just present it as a Pan Am 747-100 maybe.

[JFAIR] seaplane

Hi Steph77 nice to see your airplane again! -
I wouldn't use a sequencer as on the P38 the doors stay opened when the gears are down. I would try to use connecting rods pushing or pulling the doors when the landing gear is lowered or retracted. Yeah it might be tricky...but i would give it a shot. I'm curious to see how you did yours. I made two version few days ago. They are not awesome but they are working. If you interested, I can post some pictures. One is working with small LAs and the other with gears/liftarms. Really! how come it doesn't work? (nice plane btw) I worked on two versions of a variable pitch propeller last week (6 blades and 3 blades). I got inspired by Andy G's work. The 6 blades propeller (I mounted short blades) The 3 blades propeller The pitch would be controlled by mini LA if motorized or just a handle in the cockpit if not.

Nicely done again. I like to see you're using a jack hehehe

Nice job! I can't see the photos. Am I the only one? -

Awesome, I've been looking for a such online explanation for a while! Thanks -
So download the pdf number 5 of the post #1. You'll have the landing gear diagram I was talking about. Your project seems to be awesome. I have a project like yours in mind but not the same airplane, probably a Bronco or a plane inspired from it

Hey I just found some gold :) Here you will find the erection and maintenance manual (page 1) and the service instruction (page 2) of the P38 (you just need to register). Lots and lots of technical diagrams and informations. I hope it helps hehe EDIT: Don't download the 16 pdf of the first post but the 2 pdf post #9. EDIT2: Page 115 you have diagram of the main landing gear with its actuator How big is your moc?

A P38 Awesome! I found this for the flaps http://static.rcgroups.net/forums/attachments/1/4/6/2/a2759239-214-P38%20flap%20track.jpg?d=1253048347 and http://static.rcgroups.net/forums/attachments/2/3/7/5/7/0/a2759557-225-Flap%20Track.jpg?d=1253060878 I'm actually working a bit on a fowler flaps extension but I haven't found something great yet. Good luck! I'm looking forward to see your job

Hey! I really like your job here! Kind of old school, it's cool. I found the wheel a bit too small. I might be wrong -
Ooh seeing this tiny Chinook reminds me I made those two tiny planes: On left, a DHC-6 Twin Otter on Floats and on the right, a Pa32 Cherokee 6
-
Thanks :) I would like build a plane in technic but it won't be a 747. I think more a single or twin engine (propeller). So far I'm just trying to find solution for the flaps, landing gear, engine.... Both, 747 and shuttle, are design to put minifig in it. Sorry, the screenshots are not up to date. There is also the lower deck on the shuttle but I should make new screenshots

[JFAIR] Saab 340 WIP
hysot replied to Alasdair Ryan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hey, So, flaps are used to increased lift but also to slow down because the increased the drag. They are fully extended during approach to fly safer at the approach speed. As said above you can use the pitch of the propeller to reduce the speed. Setting a fine pitch you will increase the drag and slow down. As you can see fine pitch (a good aerodynamical brake!) VS coarse pitch Then on the ground, again as said before, depending of the engine you can reverse the pitch of the propeller to slow down. It's not used in flight. If you want to make a short field landing and the airplane is not equipped with spoilers (like the saab) or reverse thrust, you can retract the flaps after touchdown to reduce the lift, increase the grip of the tires and increase the efficiency of the brakes. -
[WIP] Flying Brick
hysot replied to whale2's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hey! Well well....I really doubt this plane will fly.... 1- The airfoil is really a bad one. I know it's tricky to build a good airfoil in Lego but this one won't give any result. This airfoil is used on model scale airplane built with foam. Way much lighter than your plane. 2- You're plane is waayyy too heavy and too complex for the experiment. You're like the Wright brother designing a boeing 737 as first plane of the history. If you want to build the first flying Lego plane, make it simplier. No retactable landing, no flaps (Btw I don't think flaps will be usefull on a such airfoil) no doors.Just think light and strong airframe. Good luck! -
Awesome idea! I would add a frame in Lego around it to make it even more artistic
-
Yeah I know.....but I take my time, I'm not in hury. It's a long term project, something I wanted to do since my childwood.

As it's opened to LDD model, let me share with you my LDD 747-100 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. It's in its way to be a MOC but the building is slow because expensive. the WIP of the MOC Hysot

Haha ok Well I just remembered a trick found somewhere on the forum. I never had to use this trick until today
