  1. Unfortunately my local Target sells a few LEGO sets sans minifigures due to theft I presume. A few of the TMNT sets are discounted due to 'missing figures'. I also see empty CMF packs around various shops that i frequest also. Sad really, but there is value in them.
  2. That's a shame, I had the same issue here in Sydney where I didn't get the 10% off (did it even receive the coupon in the mail or receive a message through their app). But, the customer service guy on the phone was real good, apologised for the mix up, cancelled my initial lay by then re did it with the discount so I'm happy. On a side note, got the Monster Fighters Ghost Train for $55 with the 20% off clearance price at Target today.
  3. Heheh nice pic, my Dad used to smoke a pipe and I'm sure we built LEGO while he smoked it too.
  4. Wow, I love how he gentleman in the bottom left hand corner is smoking a pipe whilst building. You won't see that in today's catalogues!
  5. This is a really nice MOC, I like the setting too with the tunnel and bridge. Well done
  6. Using the straight currency conversion argument, when the AUD depreciates to 0.60 to he USD or even to 0.47 where it was in the early 2000s we should expect a doubling of LEGO prices in Australia?
  7. Roman emperor entry (toutouille) 1pt Roller derby girl entry (moctown)1pt Mermaid entry (cecille) 1pt Well don moccers!
  8. A council is a local government division in Australia that is responsible for local issues such as garbage disposal, road and local park maintenance. MM
  9. Here are the stats on a sealed box i received a few days ago. 1. Location of figs in bo (graphical format)- http://www.flickr.com/photos/88813400@N07/8099032475/in/photostream 2. % chance of each fig (graphical format) http://www.flickr.com/photos/88813400@N07/8098926292/in/photostream/ Stats wise, the probabilities are exactly the same as yours however the locations of figs are different, but we knew that already. Three complete sets and some leftovers. Im pretty happy with the series overall. Ill probably keep 2 full sets and try to offload a few of the ones im not too keen on i.e Fairy, bat, footballer. -Matt
  10. I have not had any quality issues to complain about as I've only started collecting this year but if I did buy a set with broken or faulty parts I would simply take it back o the retailer if I bought in a store. With a receipt here in Australia, stores are legally obliged to refund/exchange/repair goods that are not fit for use or not as described. Im not sure of the consumer policies in other countries. I do however understand though that many people have issues when buying online. It also a bonus when the stores sell off their sets with missing/broken/stolen parts realy cheap! Also, from what I am hearing there are a number of qc issues with Lego which is a business management issue that could become a bigger problem if things aren't addressed. One of Lego's competitive advantages is their renowned quality, if this compromised then why by Lego over cheaper alternatives? Surely keeping an excess supply of Chinese made parts is possible at a reasonable cost. If after a reasonable time period the parts can be sold off in Lego stores or donated? -Minifig Matt
  11. Wow Lasse this looks really good. I love the neatness and attention to detail, especially how the building facades flow nicely between each other. Good to see the human side with the different Minifigs going about their days. The police officer trying to arrest the man swimming in the fountain is a nice touch. Is this based on the way Stroget looks in real life, if so can you post a pic of it so we can see? It looks like a beautiful city. I also checked out some o your other work! Very nice. -Matt
  12. Wow they look really neat, congratulations in them displayed! These have given me a new set of possibilities for building. Do you have any otherbplansto build soon? -Matt

  14. Welcome to EB SamBo! I'm recently back into LEGO just this year and was really inspired at the Sydney Brick Show, just what will I conjur up for next year? Would love to see some pics of the Mini Hope you enjoy your time here -MM
  15. Just ot home from my first LEGO convention and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We loved the many displays, they were very inspirational. I even managed to score free LEGO after getting a trivia question right and getting drawn out for the brick build! The talk by Ryan was engaging, Id like to hear him talk about colours and quality control at LEGO! Congrats to the organisers, well done and I am already looking to having a display next year perhaps. Still can't believe tha the Star Wars set went for $1000 and the Hulk Minifig for $200+ at the auction. MM
  16. Hi, Just saw this news story about LEGO in Australia. http://www.news.com.au/travel/news/lego-structures-take-over-the-streets/story-e6frfq80-1226372027669 MM
  17. I agree that it's a bit odd. the options for us consumers is to purchase LEGO from other overseas retailers and bypass Shop at Home and the local Aussie retailers altogether. Some sets when purchased on sale are reasonably comparable and I will continue buying local where possible. When major retailers start hurting due to lower LEGO sales they will either a)reduce prices b) not stock LEGO as it is not a profitable use of shelf space. There is one other issue to consider, if we whinge when LEGO isn't priced at parity to US prices when the currencies are on par with each other, what will happen when the dollar eventually returns to it's long term strend of 60ish cents to the US dollar? Would LEGO justifiable be able to increase our prices when this occurs? I do think that exclusives should be priced more competitively though as there is no local retail alternative and would not be detracting from distribution arrangements. My major gripe isthe S&H charges for S@H purchases. They are exorbitant when compared to other online stores. MM
  18. Hi, I am going to the Saturday night event next week. Just asking what I am to expect, I know there will be some exhibits and a talk by Ryan McNaught. how many usually attend, what LEGO if any will be available to purchase, how long does the night go for? I'm pretty new to EB and the AFOL community. Thanks -MM
  19. I'm from Sydney and new to EB too. I used the same excuse to buy LEGO for our unborn so they will have an awesome collection when they're older! It's good thatyou and hubby are into it as is my wife. Have fun and enjoy EB -MM
  20. I have started with the 2012 City theme, Fire ATV, Fire Engine, Prisoner Transport, Police Minifigs, Ambulance, Garbage Disposal truck. I have the Public Transport set put aside for latin the year as a gift from my wife. I am also interested in MOCing ( is that the correct term?) City type sets and have made a couple of Pick a Brick orders to increase my collection of cool elements. I am into collecting Minifigs, I almost have complete series 3,4,5,6 and 7, just chasing a few missing ones. Will be trying either ebay or bricklink to get the rest. I also like some of the Alien Conquest minifigs a bit disappointed that we won't see more any time soon. -MM
  21. ok so here are my guesses 1. Teacher 2. Ghengis khan 3. Politician 4. Stock market trader 5. Fairy 6. Zeus 7. Some type of police officer 8. Bear 9. Priest 10. Terracotta soldier 11. Musician (jazz?) 12. Groom 13. King/queen 14. Moai statue 15. Mountaineer 16. Tv reporter
  22. Mine definitely came from Poland, took just on 2 weeks. What shipping did they charge you? My order earlier in the year was about $170 and I was charged about $30 extra for delivery. Can't justify that if it goes through a Sydney DC. my last orr was a May 4th so delivery wasnt an issue. -MM
  23. Why then when I order from LEGO shop at home it comes from Poland? Maybe the DC in Sydney only supplies Australian retail stores. -MM
  24. Thanks for the warm welcomes folks, looking forward to contributing more. -MM
  25. I agree, the S&H costs are very high. I have ordered goods from a UK website and they included free shipping for all orders and they weighed significantly more than my recent LEGO orders. A bit hard to cop the high RRP and then shipping too. Im not sure why LEGO couldn't have a distribution centre somewhere closer to Australia, could even be in SE Asia somewhere. Then any s@h orders from the region could come from there, LEGO could take advantage of bulk shipping and pass on the much lower to us. -MM
