New Space Skulls and Star Justice sets
Grand Admiral replied to Grand Admiral's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I'll see if I can get around to making a base soon. :skull: -
Hi everyone, The last few days I've been making some smaller Space Skulls sets with LDD. I have pictures and links in my Flickr stream here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/grandadmiral/...57604707829648/ Chris has made a few small sets too: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fazoom/sets/72157604060840723/ Enjoy. :skull:

New fan designed products from the LEGO Group
Grand Admiral replied to legomilk's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Actually Chris lives about 50 miles away from me. We are both part of the Dixielug group, and get together and build occasionally. We have been building our themes for about 5 years now. LEGO liked the way our themes complimented each other, so they asked us both to design sets that would be sold together. :skull: -
Stealing Star Justice technology is a long-standing tradition amongst the Space Skulls. :skull:

Aren't Space Skulls and Star Justice supposed to be out today?
Grand Admiral replied to KDog's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Apparently our sets are now available on S@H, at least in the US. http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=10191 http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=10192 Do those of you in other countries see them as available too? -

I believe Batbrick was quoting the price in Australian dollars. -

http://factory.lego.com/space/default.aspx The Space section of the Factory website is live today, but I have been informed that due to technical difficulties (for which I have no information) the sets and LDD parts won't be available until sometime next week. Sorry. -
Nice! This is a very compact and fun MOC. :skull:

The sets will be on S@H April 16th. Some of the Brand Retail stores put the sets out early.

Thanks for the review! Well, unfortunately in this instance, it was the only trans-red element I could use. I really didn't want to have to put solid red brick in there or try to SNOT the 1x2 plates on somehow and lose the transparent effect. I wanted to preserve as much of the trans-red look as possible, so this is what I decided to go with. I would much rather have had some 1x2 brick or even some trans red thin walls. Just as an FYI, these trans neon green 2x2 rounds are not necessary to the design of the fighter. LEGO added them so the model would pass the heat test. Personally, I suggest removing them since the model stands up just fine on the landing gear. Just don't put it in the oven. ;-)

I have no way of knowing this, because when we built the sets we didn't have pricing information.
-
We'll forgive you, but only because it's Blacktron. It better be Blacktron 1. |-/
-
Because these sets and the corresponding LDD palette will be released on April 16th.

Thanks. |-/ The Justice torsos have a white center with clear sides. We made them that way so you could put them on any color torso, for greater variety of use. Also, note how the White helmet goes with the white center portion of the torso sticker. There are blue stripes on either side. It does have a design to it. The Skulls torso stickers are mostly clear with only red belts. They'll be useable on pretty much anything. The logo was designed to be like a Rangers star with the CS "swoosh" around it. It was supposed to be something new, with a reference to the old.

The Justice set is 895 pieces, or 11 cents per piece. The Skulls set it 956 pieces, or 10.3 cents per piece. That's slightly above average, but these aren't being produced in mass quantities like a Star Wars set, so the individual unit cost is higher. Thanks for the review, I look forward to reading the Space Skulls review! *skull*

As far as I know, these should be available for one year, until April 2009. That's the last information I have, anyway.
-
Thanks for posting that quote, ImperialScouts. We would have been happy to use ExoForce torsos, and we asked for them, but LEGO would not give us access to printed torsos from other System lines, except what's already in LDD. :-/

Yes, unfortunately the box art doesn't show off some of the fun features I incorporated into my models. The Skullfighter is my favorite model but they put it in the back, with the wing half off the page. |-/ I also think people will be a little bit more impressed with the Mecha Skull when they see the actual size of it compared to the other models. It's as large as the Justice base. *skull*

I'm not taking this personally, just trying to educate where I can, and explain just how difficult the design process can be when you have a very limited palette. We didn't have the luxury of picking and choosing any parts we wished. Are you saying you would prefer fewer pieces and more specialized elements, with an even lower value per piece? The Justice Set has fewer pieces than the Skulls set for the same price, because it uses special parts like canopies and wheels with tires. We tried to get things like airtanks, various kinds of space engines, like 43121 and 30360 and other special "spacey" parts we like to build with. What you see is what we were able to get. We did not try to "pad" the part count of the sets. We just built with what we had available to us.
-
You can leave them blank if you want to.
-
The price is right around $0.10 per piece, which is about average. We would have liked a cheaper alternative, smaller set, but we'll see what LEGO does. We took inspiration from designs such as these:
