  1. Model and photos both equally amazing, how many battery boxes are in there?
  2. Hard to say, I had many years as a kid with LEGO and loved it all, mostly the big technic sets. then a big gap and now I have kids and getting back into it all over again. There is so much now from the massive 8110 to the NXT its all really good. My boys are having a great time with the basic City sets and we will soon be playing with some trains. I have to agree there is something about the time you first got into it that makes you feel that that was the golden age.
  3. I have a 8865 and loved it as a child, now I am back from the dark ages 8880 is on my list of gets, just need to find one in good nick for normal money, may be a long wait. Thanks for the review I know I am a bit late to this thread but the pics really show off what this had to offer.
  4. sort of, but rather than one stick I mean 2. so the stick on the left moves up and down and operates forward and reverse. The stick on the right moves left and right for left and right.
  5. Never been there, but looking at the map and images of the real thing, I think you got this spot on. Must have taken ages, but well worth the time...
  6. My understanding of the small remote is it has three positions per channel, off (centre) and on each side. this offers no ability to control position through the range of off to full on.
  7. That's a big crane, will the pneumatics also be controlled remotely? if so how will the valves be controlled? looks really good with the stabilizers out in position.
  8. I know this will look good on my shelf, and I am pretty sure the kids will enjoy playing with it was well. Not too long till it hits the shops in the UK the I think I will have to get one of theses. I love the idea of proportional steering on the servo motor, just not that keen on having to use a train remote for it.
  9. Thanks, colour is not an issue, black would be better I think but a split would not work, I am in the uk if that helps anyone
  10. I have just ordered my first train bits and this is exactly the sort of thing I want to build. they looks so life like to me...
  11. 2 pump compressor as well, very nice I do like some pneumatics
  12. Hi, does anyone know of anywhere to order a replacement for the Lego Hose, Ribbed 7mm. I need to get a few long lengths and then cut to size. I noted that this was used a fair but in this theme although I have never had a set that uses it. I ordered a load off bricklink a few months ago but need a fair bit more and was wondering if there is a suitable replacement as it looks like thin electrical conduit. the part I mean has bricklink id 78c13 any ideas anyone?
  13. How about the speed computer? if you know the final drive peak RPM and the circumference of the wheel you have the speed. this would be peak rather than a average over a measured meter mid you.
  14. Thanks for this, very simple and does the job, anyone know of a design for a traditional forward back left right stick type remote?
  15. Normally not a fan of LAs over Pneumatics but this looks really nice and the idea of complete remote control is very appealing. very nice model
  16. thanks for letting me know, walker looks good as well
  17. Did you order your stuff in USD and pay the shipping to the UK or did you find all the bits with a UK seller. I am interested in the servo valves and a controller.
  18. Wow and thanks for this. Have just got through the whole topic and I have to say this is top notch stuff. There is so much to see and so many cool ways of building all in one MOC. very impressed
  19. Back emf keeps the current low on a running motor, the real issue is when it stalls, this is the point of max current draw, if you have a few stalled motors then you can draw more current than some components are designed to deal with. The type of battery used will also have an impact, NiCads for example can supply many amps of current when called upon where as alkaline the max current they will supply will be lower
  20. If you have a simple multi-meeter at home I would check the voltage coming out of the controller, if this is steady when the motor stops, take the motor of and add a different one to the track, if that starts then you know 100% its the motor in some way, if it also fails then it sounds like it may be a conduction issue in the track check all connections and carry on. if the voltage is not staying steady then you know the issue is with the controller / transformer. In this case you need to try a different one. if you only have one controller I would get a new transformer with the right plug and try that with the same controller, if the voltage now stays steady then you have a fix if not then i think the only thing left can be the controller.
  21. Hi, lego colour sensor from v2 of NXT set works fine. The trick is to read the orange balls and assume any others are the footballs and it will work. you will need to build a shoot that gets the balls in the right spot and construct a retainer that will hold the ball still giving enough time to read the colour.
  22. Really well done on that, all works so well
  23. Wow, I really like the track raising sections very nicely done
