Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26
Johan the Yellowhead replied to maydayartist's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
After following your post for quite some months now, I finally decided to sign up and become a member. So, one of the first things I'd like to say is: WOW, your thread is so cool. All those wonderful creations, everything really comes to life! Can't wait to see more! -
Modular Buildings Together
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Johan the Yellowhead's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks! First of all, your town lay-out looks great, although I do see what you mean concerning those streets. Hmm, I might have to change my plans. I plan to start building the park soon, and continue with it one piece at a time (thinking about doing one 32x32 plate at a time). Still, I don't know how big to make the park, since I don't know how many modulars lego is going to release. Thinking logically, every corner is followed by (guessing the next one won't be a corner building) three straight buildings, leading to another 9 sets to complete the circle? That means 9 years. I sure hope I'll be finished with my park by then! -
MOC - 1950's Australian Suburban Street
Johan the Yellowhead replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Town
Wow, love it! Really like the way the railroad 'decents' into the street. Really gives me the feeling I'm walking through Amsterdam, being run over by all the trams! But again, nice build! -
Modular Buildings Together
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Johan the Yellowhead's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks lightningtiger! I tried several combinations, but I believe this one works best (sorry for the GE, my kitchen doesn't have that much white wall ) . I am planning to buy some lego-roads, lenghtening the street and placing some trees and stuff like that. I think I might make a bicycle path on the other side of the street in brick yellow. Connected to that side of the street would be a dock and harbor, with beyond the sea. In the middle of the sea would be a small island and I would place my log cabin on there. -
He's after Rachel! Didn't you see, she's not there either! Since being back with lego only some three years, I never expected to be one of the few people to have all the modulars. But now I'm more into it, it really strikes me that prizes of CC, GG and MS are (still) going up drastically. I'm just one lucky dude to have found them 'on time'! On a particular site from Holland, somewhat like e-bay, Cafe Corner is selling for 400-500 euro's! Even though it is beautiful, I would never pay that (couldn't even if I wanted to...)!

Layout In another thread of mine where I showed my interior of the Cafe Corner I noticed people are very interested and thrilled to see a group-shot of all the modular buildings. With the photos in a post not all people would necessarily look for them, I decided to make this new thread with more pictures! I first bought Cafe Corner off e-bay some time ago when it was still ‘reasonably’ prized (that said, it was my wife who, through showing me pictures of the CC, pulled me out of my Dark Years!), with the Green Grocer following swiftly. Every since the Fire Brigade, I am ‘on target’, buying them mostly a few weeks after they arrive in stores. After buying the Fire Brigade, I went on a stroll to collect all the pieces for the Market Street, seeing as it was virtually impossible to get it for a decent price at the time. I managed to buy most parts through Pick-a-Brick and the missing parts department of Lego. Throughout the year, my modular buildings are stored safely in the attic, out of the light and partially dust-free (or at least more dust-free then in my other rooms in the house). Every two weeks or so I climb my ladder to wonder at them. Once a year they get their chance to shine, when I bring them down every time I finish a new modular building. Then, I proudly show them to my wife and family or friends who happen to pass by. After two days, I take them back up again, and they will have to wait a whole year to see the light again! Now, for the pics... I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do when I sit in my chair, looking in wonderment! I will try to get a group picture every year once I build the new modular! My future plan is to buy some streets and connect them, creating a nice sidewalk. The corner-shot photo... Hmm, it's light, but where are all the people...? A full-frontal shot! The back alley. Although it is way more simple then the front, I still really enjoy looking at it, seeing the different colors interconnecting perfectly with each other! I envision one day, when the modular buildings come 'full circle', to build a grand park in the middle, with a play ground, trees, water, etc. Bird-view... Gotta love it! Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed it!

Thanks and your welcome! If you ever need one with a bigger resolution, just pm me! I understand where you're coming from. I must be honest, normally at my place, they don't get 'out' often. They are stuffed on my attic, where there is no light and little dust, making it the best possible place for storage. I go up once every two weeks or so, to check them out. I only get them down once a year after I finish building the modular building of said year. Then they are allowed to shine in full glory! Thanks! I always envisioned the CC to be 'build' over two seperate decades. The lower part to me seems a restored part of the original building, whereas the upper part is still in it's classic style. With this in mind, I decided I wanted the upper part (the hotel part), to have a more classic look to it, so I decided to use brown, since it has that 'wooden' feel about it. The lower part is more the 80's-90's dining look, with a stone floor and leather seats. Thank you very much! Ever since my dark ages, I sold all my lego... This means, for every new building I want to build, I have to buy all the parts I need as I have nothing in spare, which, you can imagine, costs quit a lot of money... So to keep myself busy and not go bankrupt on Lego, I decided to start small, and fill up the modulars I have right now. Plans for the GG and others are definitely there, although I might not act on my own for the GG, since it is my misses favorite! Haha, exactly what I envisioned when designing the interior for the ground floor! I still want to tweak some small things in the future, since I believe there can be just a little bit more detail. On the other hand, I never really like crowded rooms, so I might just leave it at this for the time being.

Wow, amazing build! Do you think this mechanism can be build into the Town Hall, or are adjustments necessary? Again, what a build!

Wow, fantastic! Love seeing those new 1x2 bricks in action. Besides the build, your photography is awesome!

I have the same problem also, but in much smaller degree. Mine is only slightly elevated... I would suggest replacing the flat plates on the other two corners with the in your post described 1x4 tile with two studs. I really don't see any other way around it. This solution can also be applied to the other floor, so it might not be off anymore.

Thank you for your feedback Dakar! I was thinking about changing the counter, but a snot-approach did not cross my mind! Thanks! I tried several setups with another table, but somehow it always made the room to crowded, so I decided, since there are two tables outside, I'd stay with one... Hope to see your brickpaper drawing put to the test in real life soon!

What a wonderful build! I love the details and the color combinations! Was it difficult to keep the tree balanced?

After lurking around the forums for a while, it is now time to start contributing! Here, I bring an overview of the modular buildings (pictures moved to new thread here) and my edit of the interior of the Cafe Corner. I hope to be able to make some modular buildings of my own in time... Now, for the promised interior! What's that? No green plate interior? Wait a sec... Someone is in there! On the ground floor, a Friends-like (the sitcom...) cozy corner, a bar and of course an espresso machine! Bird-view... Upstairs, we find two bedrooms for guests. One larger room with a fireplace, the other room a little smaller but with a nice flower. The top floor shows a recreational room with library. I hope you enjoyed watching. Thank you! Feedback is much appreciated!

Hello to all! My name is Johan, 25 years old, and I'm from the Netherlands. In daily life I work as project manager for a developmental organization of the Catholic church, supporting many projects in third world countries. It's a thankful job, giving me the opportunity to meet new people and cultures every day. Since two years, I returned from the so called Dark Years! Funnily enough, it was my girlfriend (now turned wife), who pointed me to the modular building series, leading us to buy the Cafe Corner on e-bay, followed by the Green Grocer (which untill, she still believes to be the best). Safe to say my main interest is in the town section, but I love to scroll the historical section also! Now, after lurking on the forums for quite some time, I believe it is time to start contributing! I readily enjoy all the positive and creative responses and I am very glad to be a part of it now!
