Alternate Palace Cinema Movie Posters
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Johan the Yellowhead's topic in LEGO Town
Nice going! Really like the look of this, though I would suggest indeed to use paper with a more glossy finish. Just to give more credit to your work! Good to see you (re)create the posters by yourself. I personally think working with stickers asures a longer poster life-span, yet I can see the positives of working with normal paper. This way, not every poster needs its own window... -

Wow! They look wonderful all together. Now I want to build them again even more! Funny how big the Market Street looks beside the Palace Cinema... And nice going on the two Pet Shops! -
Alternate Palace Cinema Movie Posters
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Johan the Yellowhead's topic in LEGO Town
Hi Andy D! Thanks for your reply. The poster next to Harry Potter is from the movie I Am Legend (Will Smith). Someone made a nice Lego variant of this movie poster. As I said in the first post, I used some of the many excellent Lego movie posters which are already around. Again, all credit goes to those designers! I just edited them in such a way the color contrast comes out perfectly on the used paper, and resized them so they would fit (though not perfectly) on the lego window. If I wanted them to fit perfectly some cropping had to be done, so I chose to cut some paper of the sides. By the way. The paper used for this is Herma No. 8964 Transparent Labels. As said, the paper used for this is Herma No. 8964 Transparent Labels. I cannot yet give any indication about how long these stickers can be reused and whether or not they will eventually break apart (since it is my first try as well), but I applied some stickers and was able to get them on and off the window for over 10 times without losing quality of the sticker (or its stickyness... )! That sounds like a really interesting idea! I love how the original stickers of Palace Cinema have that so called limited palette. I'd be really interested to see how yours works out! I'm thinking of building my own modular video store where I can use the other posters! The paper used for this is Herma No. 8964 Transparent Labels (I don't think these are made to be re-usable). I used an ordinary HP Photosmart printer. I printed them at the size of the window, being 5.3 cm x 2.9 cm. The nice thing is you can buy enough windows for dozens of posters, seeing as the windows don't cost much and are easily replaced by one another! -
Alternate Palace Cinema Movie Posters

You mean uploading the posters? Or do you mean after I finish the build? In case of the posters, I'd be happy to do so, but they are little more then google hits yet resized... -
Alternate Palace Cinema Movie Posters
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Johan the Yellowhead's topic in LEGO Town
Yes, after seeing how they worked out, I immediatly started thinking on how to put this to good use. Backlighting them is one idea, but I can imagine there are many more ways of using this transparent poster (or whatever you'd want to use it for) sticker paper... Hope to have more ideas in the near future! -
Modular Buildings Together
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Johan the Yellowhead's topic in LEGO Town
Sadly, this year I will not be able to repost a picture with all modulars together (meaning first post pictures plus Palace Cinema). For the past few months I've been breaking down all modulars and storing them in boxes on the attic in preparation of the birth of my child (which happened three weeks ago!). Hopefully I'll be able to rebuild all the modulars in due time so I can give you all the pictures once again. -
Seeing as it is my holiday, I finally have some time to spend on Lego once again. Ever since seeing the Palace Cinema I envisioned making some alternate movie posters. Nothing huge ofcourse, compared to making your own modular building, but something nice to spend time on. There are many very nice lego movie posters around already, and I took the liberty to use them for good purposes! Sadly I am not yet able to show them to you in use at the Palace Cinema, since my wife will not let me unwrap my present until my birthday on august 16th... I've tried out several ways of printing the posters. The most easy way would be on normal blank paper etikets, but that didn't seem to work for me. So I bought some transparent etiket paper and printed the posters on those, which gives a very interesting effect. The posters are clearly visible, yet the interior of the cinema will also stay visible, leaving more room for light in the process! Ofcourse these are not the only posters I've used. Here are the other posters which I will put on the glass windows, possible incorporating them into the set in the near future! (sorry for the picture quality, I took the shots with my phone...)

MOC(s): Mini Modulars "la Villa bleue" & "Green Apple&
Johan the Yellowhead replied to moctown's topic in LEGO Town
Wow! Love the green Apple building! Would love to make this into a genuine modular building. Did your inspiration for that building come from a minifigure scale building?- 19 replies

Love the façade, love the painting and love the way you managed to use the limited amount of space inside! The bathroom looks especially great. The sand blue color of the house really finishes the whole!

Mind-boggling fantastic, overwhelming... Aahhh, need I say more? Wonderful build here, I love the combination of ‘official’ sets with your own creation. And then also the adjusted 'official' sets! Love it. Oh, I wonder, if only I had two of those Green Grocers, the world would look so much... greener...

MODs: Enlarged Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade

I really like what you did with the GE. It makes me think instantly about a certain warehouse here in the Netherlands where I often go for lunch. It looks exactly like this. A smaller floor as upper-floor where one has the opportunity to sit outside and have a look over the city! Magic! -
Great build, so iconic! One of my favorite movies when I was a child!
-
I would definitely go with the GE. Way more interesting and challenging build from my point of view and sooner to be discontinued than the PS. On the other hand, it might also count what your preferred architectural style is. The GE is relatively modern, whereas the PS has a more classic style...

It did indeed! Best time of the year -
Wow! This is so great, what a wonderful village you've created! I really love the kind of atmosphere, it is so real! Great job!

Thanks for this wonderful compliment. Very eager to see your take on the interior of the CC!

That is interesting! Thanks! Neat way to add these roadplates. Although what I like best about the roadplates used normally is that it gives you more space for a sidewalk. Nevertheless, very interesting tutorial! -
An LDD file is available in the first post! And even in LDD it looks awesome!
-
Thank you! I'm currently designing the interior of GG's upper two floors in LDD, although I'm having some troubles finding fitting colors for the floor and furniture. The green color of the GG is outstanding, and a brown floor always suits, but I like to get a different take on this one compared to the CC interior I made. I'll keep you posted when I decide on something worth sharing!

Modular Buildings Together
Johan the Yellowhead replied to Johan the Yellowhead's topic in LEGO Town
Pet Shop is really fun! Before buying it, I had my doubts, seeing as the pictures I saw beforehand did not impress me. After building it I became sure this is a worthy addition to the modular series. It is a nice build and compared to the other buildings it is cute (as my wife would say...). For me personally, GG is still my favorite. I think architectural wise it has the best build, technique wise it was one of the more challenging, and I really love the color-scheme! Everything combined, I believe Lego will have a hard time giving me one that I believe to be better then GG! -
Very, very, very nice work! Like the way you created those stairs, and smart thinking about those crates as the houses' side. Very cool furniture also. At first sight I thought the outside would look a bit to 'modern', but seeing them all together, I must say it looks amazing!

Same here, same here! And I applaud your criticism on the attick! I've been searching eurobricks for some more pics of towns build with standard road plates, and I came across a few that look really good. Might have to give it some time to think it over... -
The store ofcourse is finished, but the upper two floors can do with an upgrade in my opinion!

Really love the detail. Especially those plants and those icicles! I get chills just by looking at it!
