  1. I need some help with ideas on how to make the tipper raise. Using the linear actuators I can only make it raise up around 15 degrees (at best). Looking at the pictures of the real truck it looks more like 60 degrees+++. Anyone know how to make a working lego version of how the real truck's tipper raises? Thanks for any ideas. Decided to change it from a tipper truck to a having a combination of a crane and a tipper. At the front behind the cab I'll add a crane, behind that i'll have a tipper tray. I think that will make it more interesting.
  2. Two things I'd like to add, it's taking a fair bit of time for this project as I'm making it modular. So it will be easy to build. That is something I wish I had done with my other truck MOCs. Also this my 1st real Technic MOC, only ever made a few Lego ones before hand. Thanks, i'll have the 3 battery boxes sitting behind the cab. Thanks
  3. Wow amazing build, great work. Very impressed.
  4. Cab fixed, made it taller. Looks much better. Pieces - 4192 Also I hope 6x XL PF motors geared down to (3:1) will be enough power. Once i'v finished it i'll go through the model and try and make it a bit lighter.
  5. I had a feeling it was him, didn't realize he had every technic set though. Also great website.
  6. Nice collection you've got going. I'v just recently got back into Lego after a few years off. This thread got me thinking, who has the biggest collection on here?
  7. Here is an update picture. I'm thinking the cab needs to be a bit taller. Pieces: 4141
  8. Thanks mate, it's almost done now. Should have finished version 1 pictures up this weekend. You know your model is massive when you tell LDD to rotate something and it crashes.
  9. Here's an update of my work on the 12x12 truck. Still have a fair bit of work to do, however it's coming together nicely. The hardest part will be designing how the tipper attaches to the linear actuators, might be something I will have to work out in real life when I get around to building it. The whole way along this project I have been designing it in modules. This is so I can build it easily, and also once I'v built it, i'll release the building guide. Pieces: 3202 - (probably 4500 by the end) Motors: 6x XL PF Motors for driving, 1 per axle/wheel line. 2x M PF Motors for raising the tipper, 1 per linear actuator. 1x M PF Motor for steering. 3x Battery Boxes (not yet shown in model). This is should be a nice model to go with my massive model team style truck. I did want to put a 5571 Black Cat in with them to show a size comparison but LDD couldn't handle it and shut down straight away.
  10. Yet another Aussie here in Brisbane, been building technic sets for 12 years (since I was 7). Only just started making more advanced MOCs.
  11. Thanks guys and yes it will have a raising tipper. I would have liked to use SR 3D Builder, but I just cannot get use the controls of it so LDD it is. A few specifications so far... Parts: 2357 Length: 90cm
  12. I thought I would share something I have been working on for a few weeks now (in spare time). It's a 12x12 truck, with independent wheel suspension, all wheel drive, 2 front and 2 back steering wheel axels. Fully remote controlled. Still heaps of work to be done though. The truck I have using as inspiration is... http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5409067
  13. I can't pick between my 5571 Black Cat and my 8479 Code Pilot. Both I wanted ever since I saw them in a Lego catalogued when I was a kid. However I am going to be building a MOC now that will surely dwarf them, my super sized tipper truck will be big enough for both of those to sit in the back of it.
  14. Just about finished ordering the parts for the truck now, only a few parts left i'll get later on when I need them. Once my orders arrive I will have plenty to start building, so far it has cost about $1200 AUD.
  15. Just place the first order for parts for the truck, about 3,500+ pieces all from one store.
  16. Thanks mate, I'm sure they'll hold together fine. One thing about my MOCs, they are always built very strong/solidly. All going well I should start buying parts for the tipper truck this week (not the trailer). Once I have built the truck itself i'll start buying parts for the trailer. So expect some pictures of it being built in real life in about 3 weeks or so. Just started making a basic building guide, should save me some time when I actually build it.
  17. Started work on a new project, was looking on brick shelf for ideas and came across this MOC. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5409068 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=497293 So i'm trying to make a technic one, so far the plan is 3 XL PF motors for driving, with a 2 speed gear box. 1 M PF motor for steering. 1 M PF motor for the tipper. Still a lot work to do first. Using a similar frame to my other MOC trucks, I know i'm using the old style studded technic beams but I'm just terrible at using the new parts.
  18. I also own one of these and love it, it's one of my all time favourite sets.
  19. Thanks guys. I would say about 1/3rd of the trucks are technic. The entire frame is the older style studded technic beams. As its easier to build the system parts onto for the cab/tipper, plus I like the older ones more.
  20. Here are some of better truck MOCs, so far I only have two trucks worth posting. I'm far some experience when it comes to MOCs (only just started getting into it). These models aren't perfect, but i'm happy with them and that's what matters at the end of the day to me. I do plan on building them in real life once I have the money for parts (within 3 months). Currently these trucks are model team style, as in no motors. However the way I designed it, I could easily add the motors in later. I will be doing some calculations tomorrow to see if it is possible to motorize such large models. Massive Tipper Truck Currently Rev4.0 Specifications: 217cm long 12,802 pieces Massive Truck 2 Current Rev2.0 Specifications: 74cm 3,451 pieces Below is a picture of the bigger truck next to a 5571 Black Cat to give everyone who owns that set an idea of the size. Thank you for reading.
  21. I would personally prefer the 1990' style as you mentioned in the OP of selling motors separately and providing the instruction to show how a set can be motorised. As I don't drive/play with my Lego sets, I enjoy the building, learning any new/interesting techniques and adding them to my collection.
  22. Thank you, i'll do that from now on with all new pictures.
  23. Yep no problem mate, I'll go re-size my pictures now. I did use crtl K on the first picture, it keeps the background just gets rid of the tool bar etc? I'll start a new thread there once I have some more updates to post, I thought this was the right section since I only had it on LDD. Thanks for letting me know.
  24. Thank you for your kind words. It will be better once I can afford to build them in real life. I was hoping that the LDD program would generate a good building guide. However after looking through the one it gave me for my 5571 tipper modification, it's harder to follow then looking at a finished picture. I'll make my own guide for myself and check it off the LDD drawing as I build.
