  1. I've not used that controller but have some VB experience, I presume you are using withevents? P.
  2. and on the new diff too! (this is why some teeth are shorter) P.
  3. It will be free floating [static] not locked [static] so it will have no power and will move if pushed/loaded. It doesn't matter what the surface area is, if the pressure is the same, then the volume can be displaced... Try it yourself connect a hose to each end of a cylinder insert T piece and connect to pump.. then try moving the cylinder, then pump up the pressure and try again.. you'll see that as the cylinder moves it pushes whatever volume from one end around through the open hose back to the other end of the cylinder. It doesn't matter what the pressure is because its the same at both ends, the volume will be displaced through the connected pipe at any pressure. Pneumatics relies on there being a pressure diference between the ends of each cylinder. P.
  4. do you mean sealed or connected to the circuit? - if connected to the pressurised supply circut at both ends then it is neutral or free floating not locked. maybe this is useful. Edit: and this
  5. Nice idea... what controls have you got? (looks like 3 channels on two sticks?) how do you map that to the four Lego dual channels? just a select switch for each channel? of fixed? I wonder how tricky it would be to just reprogram an IR remote from those cheap toy IR heli's P.
  6. Thanks for the review, the explanations and pictures are great! Personally I do not like this set! in fact it only existed for minutes before it was consigned to my parts bins (I never built the B) here's some of my reasons: The outriggers just dont function well - I really like the concept of them being angled - but they do not latch/lock/overcentre into position. The steering does not function well - full lock in about 60degrees is too sharp and weak it needs gearing. I do like the four wheel steering but I dont like the under-slung push rod style - I think this size of model needs geared steering, it can feel like the axles are twisting when 'dry steering'. the actuator is under to much stress making it awkward to operate, too stiff.. (fixed by doubling up in the new front loader!) there is no parrallelogram mechanism to stabalise the forks.. just an unfortunate consequence of the extending boom?? The front mudgaurds mount is offset on a none parrallel steering arm - Really Bad Geometry!! stressing parts that should not be stressed! - is this due to pushrod mechanism rather than a rack?? Whilst the model looks great and offers a promising range of features I feel that they are poorly executed and the model does not play well... Parax.
  7. hehe.. if you need something to drool over I got mine a week or so ago..
  8. Geeze that review brings back the memories.. I loved this one possibly more than 8851.. it Drove so well! But was it just me who mounts the large wheels the other way around on the tractor? (ie the way that they are mounted on BerndDasBrot's combine) as for those lil nuts they have indents so they fit between the studs on a technic plate! so maybe you could make an actuator. (but dont use a technic plate as a spanner/wrench as the axle wont take it! ) Parax.
  9. I have just seen Skopio for sale in the UK! Its listed on Argos website currently preorder availale 8th July. http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/s...rchTerms=Skopio P.
  10. Mine came with this... A parallel system has more cross sectional area hence delivers greater volume at greater speed and is therefore less smooth (delivery surges hit all tanks, passes 1) . a series system has very small crosssection and delivers the same initial pressure but slower so has greater pressure drop off, but is more consistant and smoother (delivery surges are smoothed through each tank, passes multiple). both systems have the same initial pressure. Dont forget the bottleneck is in the single switch! so the pressure storage is kind of irrelevant... I haven't noticed any significant difference. Maybe ported switches and cylinders would?? P.
  11. You could try a geared hub, that way the UJ transmits more speed and less torque: Image from zblj's Brickshelf
  12. sorry I misunderstood! But it is kind of there... It may be worth checking on Radio Transmission Regulations, I know that in the UK it has only recently become legal to broadcast telemetry from RC planes and again this is very limited frequency wise without a licence.. I dont know if the bandwidth exists in the accepted telemetry ranges for video? as for cars I dont know! I do recall that in the US the hobby rocket guys all get thier Amatuer Radio Licences in order to broadcast Video/Locator beacons from the rockets.. Just because you can buy it on ebay from China doesn't make it legal... As for the price agreed its high but thats UK prices...(exchange rate is better now its only $950) its the first, obviously competition and mass production will reduce the price, but its 'free market' forces which Im sure you understand. I'm sure $200 cost is possible too, but I'm not going to do it! are you considering it? And I'm sure Lego could build something too, but what size glasses? ages 8-12 or adult? and what focal plane? short focus is bad for the eyes for long periods, LEGO wont do it if it 'could' be harmful! and don't forget anything that transmits (other than BT and other accepted standards) needs radio frequency approval in every country... what you buy off ebay is not going to be up to Lego standards, And many ebay products are not legal in various countries! like those plugin ipod FM transmitters for car radios, they were illegal here until a few months ago! It would be cool to have this setup for lego but until a global standard with enough bandwidth for video, (Wireless LAN or the new wireless USB!) is accepted and used enough for Lego developers to start playing with its not likely to be considered.. wait 3 years! or since you have the contacts put forward a proposal... I could forsee a display screen (maybe watch? but preferably 3 inch screen) and a camera transmitting a still image via BT (is it type 1 thats 100m??) on request.. but it wouldn't be very cheap once fully tested and made to LEGO standards... 13. cough, cough, cough please excuse the interruption.. Resume the Lego! Parax
  14. Yes that's Alvin Brant's work, Awesome beast, but I don't think it would sell well, I couldn't get it in my house! I'd stick to 5 feet... ish.. I also think Alvin has about reached the limit with that box section design, there is a noticeable sag in it even when upright under self load. Parax.
  15. Yes, I think you could be right that this is not the original 'street sensation', but it is by a (now ex) lego designer... not sure on where you might find the street sensation instructions though... Parax.
  16. The one thing I would like to see is a $500+ Technic Set... If it they can do several in star wars why not other themes too? How about a big version of my favourite recent set 8288? (Yes with 6 motors for 6 functions!) (how many folks make their own??) Maybe as Conchas has said a larger 8294, (with 6 motors for 6 functions). Or yes even an updated Supercar... afterall the supercar has been a much repeated theme throughout Lego History, I don't see why they have not continued the evolution... I thought that the largest set of recent years (8275) was a real success, perhaps not for Lego? Parax. PS: I said a Big 8288!
  17. Maybe this is what you are looking for? if not, it's still worth a look.. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=35660 Parax.
  18. That statement is very misleading. Proportionally a LEGO set in the states represents about the same percentage of take home pay as it does in Europe. This is how companies set their prices. they want 1% of your income however much that may be. It works out very fair to everyone (ie kids here get the same as kids there) until you look over the boarder, you want to pay US prices but you dont want US wages. There are more factors involved such as what % of pay a parent spends on childrens toys, but that is basically the reason why prices vary. (It doesnt cost anymore to make or ship the sets! and exchange rates really only come into the equation when you are building a new factory! say in Mexico.) P.
  19. I think Lego ougt to have released a 2x2 converter block wihout a wire... PF on top and old 9v on the bottom and just done normal cables... they could have done: a red block 9v -> PF 9v&0v lines (power into PF system) a blue block 9v -> PF C1&C2 lines (motor convertor block) P.
