Send a PM to an admin about it. They might overlook things in some forum sections that they visit less frequently, but they will post it if you tell them about it.

Yes, they're basically the same things from the catalogs. The Alpha Centauri Outpost was built on the same asteroid and the M:Tron box stacking scene also appears in the catalogs, although there are minor differences with what the minifigs are doing.

Blast Hole Drilling Rig
CP5670 replied to Fistach's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's always very good to see a lot of functionality packed into a small space. After looking at some pictures of these things, I see what you're talking about. Still, it would probably look better for the model if the wires were bunched together more neatly, like this. -
The Highway Transport is looking like a must-have for me. It's the first such vehicle that TLG has made at a large scale, and the inclusion of steering is good to see. The price is a little high by Creator standards but it's still a good deal compared to other Lego sets in general. As Tomahawker said, the alternate models look excellent as well. The fire engine looks very good too, and it seems to have detail comparable to some Model Team sets. I'm not sure if the ladder has any interesting functionality though.

This looks pretty nice and is almost minifig scale. I like the articulated steering, but the bucket mechanism is a little lacking. The tipping is not really a "proper" function in itself, unlike most of the earlier front end loaders which had a separate control for it. I guess they had to compromise somewhere given the size of the model.

I don't really collect armies either. I may get a bunch of identical minifigs (not more than 15-20) for a MOC, but they are part of that specific MOC as far as I'm concerned and wouldn't be very interesting to just put up and display on their own.

UK Chrome Vader @TRU ! + set update
CP5670 replied to The Rancor's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Well, the cheapest BL price is $30, and anything more than $10 is not worth it to me. You may be right about the high UK prices balancing out the deal though. -
The old Space themes actually had civilian factions like Futuron and M:Tron, and the catalogs often showed the Space Police defending the civilians from the Blacktrons. It would be great to see something like that again over the next year or two, although I wouldn't bet on it.

UK Chrome Vader @TRU ! + set update
CP5670 replied to The Rancor's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Neither do I. I'm actually not a big Star Wars fan and only have five SW sets in total, but I always like chrome stuff or cool minifigs. -
Good review, and I agree with your conclusions. It's decent but has a lot of flaws. The model is pretty thin and hollow for its size, and the cockpit is too open as well. It seems to have a lot of stuff tacked on the exterior without having enough substance in the main chassis. Like the smaller sets, I don't like how even the control panel is a sticker, especially as those have always been printed in the past. It looks like that is going to be a problem with the whole line. In the preliminary pictures, it looked like the two largest sets would be the real highlights of this theme, and what I've seen so far is backing that up. Those are also the only ones to have large transparent windshields. The alien looks excellent, but he's really tall. He almost looks too tall by minifig standards.

UK Chrome Vader @TRU ! + set update
CP5670 replied to The Rancor's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Anyone know how long this is going to continue? I don't need a chrome Vader that badly, but my dad is actually going to London next month, so I could ask him to get me something there if a TRU happens to be nearby. -
That sounds fairly generic, although any larger transparent parts would be interesting and I could use a few more monorail supports. Maybe I should check it out at some point in the summer.

Do you know what the PAB wall has? I've been meaning to go to that store for some time now, but I'm only interested in the PAB wall.

Very cool. I've never seen this before. Thanks for posting it. The pictures are definitely in line with the catalog dioramas from those years. It may have come from the Brick Kicks/Mania Magazine subscriptions, as it wasn't in any of the standard catalogs. Maybe the rules were given there. However, a few sets throughout the 1990s did include posters or other extras. I got a nice MTron poster in an unopened 6923 Particle Ionizer from ebay, although none of my other sets from that time period had anything like it. It could be that they were just randomly placed among the sets, like the chrome Vaders.

Well, I'm glad that they occasionally forget their responsibility. I have gotten quite a few steals there over the years, ranging from sets with wrong set numbers in the title to MISB sets that weren't described as such but where pictures showed otherwise. The real problem is when items are incorrectly labelled in such a way that buyers have no way of determining the truth, no matter how much they know about the item. This includes (grossly) incomplete sets advertised as complete, sets advertised as MISB but having missing bags or damaged floating parts (I think TLG no longer does this, but in the past large parts were often not bagged and just floated freely inside the box), and used "excellent condition" parts with plenty of scratches and discoloring. I've run into all of these situations in the past, but in most of the cases it was unintentional and the seller compensated me in some way or took a return.

I buy Lego from there frequently and don't mind things like this. A knowledgeable fan (the type actually interested in rare minifigs) won't be fooled by wrong descriptions, and a casual buyer probably won't care in the first place whether something is Star Wars or Space. When it comes to used items, I think it's much more important to have good (large and sharp) pictures of the item available, which is something many sellers neglect to do. You can tell a lot about the condition of used Lego from good pictures, and I hardly ever bid on anything used unless such pictures are available. That may well be the case. Unlike Bricklink sellers, ebay Lego sellers often know very little about the stuff they are selling.

There isn't any reason to suspect him. In fact, his feedback is exceptionally good. Maintaining a perfect 100% rating over that many sales is rare.

Blast Hole Drilling Rig

Excellent MOC. It's always good to see unusual concepts like this for Technic models. The pneumatic compartment doors are a great touch and something I've rarely seen in Technic models. One thing I would suggest is to hide the PF wires somewhere inside the drilling arm though. They mess up the otherwise perfect appearance of the model. PF is generally the best choice for Technic models that are supposed to be manually controlled. -
Did they have the larger sets? I'm particularly interested in the Galactic Enforcer and Hyperspeed Pursuit, although I will probably wait until they show up on S@H.
-
That was exceptionally well done. I just wish it was longer. Is this a TLG promotion of some sort?

I never was able to fix those. I just tried doing exactly what you said, but it had no effect on them. I was thinking that a particular batch of them might be bad, but I could never make any sense of the markings on them. I have 8 of these motors in total and all of them have different part numbers. I have two 8082s and the micromotors in both sets are quieter and turn more slowly than the others, although they don't have the same part number. The original broken one was from 6483, which came out the same year as 8082. -
Squidman is probably my favorite alien. This might be worth getting just for him.
-
The Galactic Enforcer actually looks like the best one to me from the early pictures. I think it has the most "classic" look and feel of any of the sets. The Hyperspeed Pursuit has a great SP ship, but I don't think any of the villian ships are as good as the SP ones.
