  1. This is quite an amazing set. I got one for $100 when it came out (its original MSRP), but I'm wishing I had picked up a second one for parts when they were still available. The Stateside ebay prices I've seen recently are about $150 for a used one and $220 for a new one. That may still be worth considering given that the pneumatic parts are pretty expensive on Bricklink. I think the pneumatic stuff alone is worth over $100.
  2. I passed this set up when it was available. The size and scale are excellent, much better than the old planes, but I really hated that huge wing piece and how it left no room for any expansion or customization inside the plane. The other big pieces aren't quite as bad in my opinion. It's still on ebay fairly cheap though. I might pick one up as it's still overall a good set in its stock form.
  3. Cool models, but those images are gigantic. I had to see the Brickshelf link to see the things properly. A Kirov might make a nice addition. That's pretty much the iconic unit of RA2. Are you into the other C&C games? I've been playing C&C3:KW a lot with my brother lately. Last weekend, we were also playing the original C&C and RA with a mod I made.
  4. Interesting set. I might pick up one or two if they're under $10. I don't mind the space guy's helmet as I like the newer helmets much better anyway. The original classic space lineup came with only red and white, and yellow was added a year later. Black and blue came several years after that and were always pretty rare in comparison. As others have said, the selection of the other four figures could have been better. The fireman and gas station guy are pretty generic. The Jailbreak Joe and Jekyll figs are not bad though. It might be fun to collect several of the former and create a prison with them.
  5. I love how Schwartz wears the Indy hat right on top of his helmet. That looks hilarious. I check this thread regularly even though I don't post that much here. There are probably a lot of other silent readers too.
  6. This would be perfect for that elderly looking Ice Planet commander.
  7. Well, the problem is that I'm not getting them at my own location at all. I only get to see them when I go to my parents' place every few months, or if they visit me and bring the catalogs with them. Yeah, I'll just do this. Although I don't think I ever had to call them to get the catalogs in the past. Maybe they just add you on their list automatically after you place a certain number of orders with them.
  8. I have a pretty substantial stash of unopened sets too. They're almost all older sets bought off ebay though, and there are very few multiple copies of anything. The main reason I haven't built them is due to restrictions on space, previously in my bedroom and now in my apartment. I don't have nearly enough room to build and display everything at once, but I figure that will change at some point later on, maybe after I move into a larger place a few years in the future. I'm currently using packs of garage shelves from Home Depot to hold up all my built sets, but those aren't ideal in many ways and are fairly expensive too, so I don't want to spend much more on those. I keep the unopened stuff in my closet, which has four or five pre-built shelves inside and is easily big enough to hold everything.
  9. Is there a way to update your address with them? I don't mind these small catalogs but they keep sending them to my parents' house, even though I have bought several orders from my new location by now.
  10. Yeah, the 7xx Basic line had some very nice sets but the scales were often out of whack. I have the 735 set and the fire engine is comparable to many Model Team sets in size and detail, but it actually has minifig-size seats and doors. These sets don't actually come with any minifigs though and are probably not intended for them.
  11. I have 91 sets of various sizes. That includes pretty much all of the medium and large ones from Futuron to UFO, 7 or 8 classic sets, and a few Insectoids ones. If you count the discovery or launch command/spaceport stuff, that goes up by another 10 sets or so.
  12. I noticed the cat right when it found Galanos' bottle. Is that computer game supposed to be a holographic display?
  13. Is that why they didn't make any more? I thought it was just a temporary licensing contract they had that eventually ran out. Cool model. That actually looks like an armored military truck. I grew up during the same period but I always used to make various modifications to the basic cars to make them look bigger and more detailed. I remember getting the 6335 Indy Transport set some years later and thinking of how much cooler the cars had gotten over time. Those trailers are quite nice actually. It's the basic cars and pickups that I never really liked.
  14. I think 4 studs is the best size overall for cars, but that's 4 studs in the sense of that spiderman taxi or the World City police car, not the old classic cars (from roughly the early 80s to mid 90s). I never liked those old cars even as a kid. 6 studs looks more detailed but they become hard to fit into garages and so on, and look too large in comparison to buildings. On the other hand, I think 6 or 8 studs for trucks looks great. I love the truck designs that TLG has been coming out with for the last year or so.
  15. It has always been Lego to me, used as both a plural noun and an adjective. Although I don't really care if some people call it something else.
  16. Actually, you're probably right about it. I have some obscure pieces like this from Technic or Model Team sets that were in fact taken from some other theme. The Fabuland shovel on the 5571 truck is another example.
  17. That ice cream tile is from Paradisa? I actually got one from that dacta control lab service pack.
  18. Good move with this. I also thought there was too much overlap in the subject matter of these boards, especially since Star Wars has its own category as well.
  19. That had so many funny moments. My favorite bit was the commander's legs getting stuck in the cockpit. I know exactly what you're talking about there. That catalog picture showing the Blacktrons running into the ice cave actually has a second part to it. It shows the other side of the cave and some Ice Planet guys carrying out a Blacktron encased in a block of ice. Also, here's another one for your MOC listing. I made it a few years ago.
  20. That launch pad looks awesome. I especially like how the Technic pins are used as a grating. You seem to be cranking out some great models just about every week these days. A true MOC expert.
  21. That was certainly unexpected. On a side note, that toxic ice cream in the last one actually seems like the kind of thing Schwartz would like.
  22. You're probably right. I didn't realize they had any sort of clip like that. That would also explain why they lack airtanks.
  23. Very impressive. I haven't seen that many dedicated Model Team MOCs. The truck has quite a bit of detail and you've managed to do it without using much in the way of specialized parts. Is the trailer manufactured by the Exploriens though? This seems to be the right section for this topic. I guess MT is much closer to Technic than Bionicle anyway. The MT models have the same scale and steering as Technic and the catalogs that the sets came with were actually combined Technic/MT ones. Although I wouldn't mind seeing a separate forum for all of these (broadly) large-scale themes.
  24. This has been going on for well over a year now. TLG is coming out with tons of great sets these days, but the crappy, megablok-like quality of many bricks is the main reason I've hardly bought any of them. I haven't heard of Hungary as a production site for this stuff. Mexico and the Czech Republic have been brought up before. The bad part is not so much the factory locations as much as the fact that they're run by an entirely different company, Flextronics, who clearly doesn't have the same quality standards that TLG does. There was some report a month ago that TLG had taken notice and had plans to buy out Flextronics' facilities entirely, but I don't know if anything ever came of that. I haven't had this issue with the minifigs specifically, but the Flextronics pieces in general don't connect together quite as firmly as the TLG ones, so it wouldn't surprise me. I've been keeping a mental list of such parts myself and avoid buying certain things off Bricklink unless the seller is mostly carrying parts from pre-2007 sets.
  25. This is an excellent concept, and it's great to see it in action in the video. I'm not sure how it's supposed to scare deer though.
