  1. Kanye - Thanks for the compliment! Erynlasgalen - I myself am not too fond of spiders. However as an explorer of the Siccus Badlands, it is a rare day that I do not encounter one so I have sort of gotten used to them... BTW I like the leafy canopy on your MOC. Angeli - Thanks! Getting a compliment on Drow related subject matter from the Drow Master Builder is an honor! DaMaximus - Your palace looks great! Is the inside decorated?
  2. As we Kaliphlins are patrons of the arts, I thought it was my duty to contribute as well. My apologies for not having time to find one of Kaliphlins many beautiful and moving songs. I had given my personal bard the task of finding me a good ballad to enter this contest and this is what he came up with. "Good publicity for you, my lord," he told me. So with great hesitancy but due to time constraints, I present to you a short ballad you may hear sung in Barqa on occasion: The First Guardian of Barqa (To the tune of “Brave Sir Robin”) There once was a bandit That thought up a great scheme. He was very strong and fit, Power was his theme. His band rode into Barqa And so it was he became The “Guardian of Barqa”. His scheme became such a success, Barqa was under his thumb, He soon lived in great excess. He had plenty of rum, Many dames to caress, A music troupe with a drum... With coin travelers him did bless. After a spell He no more was Zeus, For his body did tell, His muscles hung loose, His belly did swell, And his brain became juice. His stamina was gel. Then Mikel Kalores came And challenged him to a duel. The bandit accepted the game And to the ring they did level. The bandit tried Mikel to maim. But Mikel, the ring did circle And when the bandit's lungs were lame, The pampered bandit he did fell. And so was the end of the First Guardian of Barqa
  3. Here are 3 more pics but I'll have to post the closeups of the minifigs tomorrow. And yes I used the longer bar with the small stopping knob near one end like Gandalf's staff on thelordoftherings.lego.com/
  4. I have been meaning to comment on this beautiful MOC. The only part I am not too sure about is the city foreground to the left. I love the way you made the walls??? throughout the city and the moons!
  5. As I promised I posted a pic of my versions of the female warrior here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=62115&view=findpost&p=1234861
  6. A tale of a knight, her squire, a spider and the royal bedchambers:
  7. Dang, you beat me to it Captain Beer Beard. Those torsos and legs make the perfect "female knight". I just got my first set saturday and made up a couple characters on with the gold and one with the gray but wasn't able to take a pic yet. I'll try tp post here later and show you my versions.
  8. Thanks rogueang! The round gray pieces are Dark Bluish Gray Wheel 81.6 x 15 Motorcycle from the Clone Turbo Tank. I didn't post a thread for this yet as I am still not 100% satisfied with it... mostly the landscaping I think. Its one of those projects that I like the basic design elements but the details are not quite up to par so I keep tinkering with. It is my policy not to post a MOC until I am 100% satisfied with it but I wanted to do something for the Myth contest and that was what I had planned to use for the contest, I just wasn't able to complete it to my satisfaction within the time alotted. In fact it might make a reapearance (however with a few modifications or unmodifications) in Challenge 3 to once again support the story.
  9. Gabe - Fantastic MOC you made there! The following are several ideas I thought about for Challenge 3: 1. Hidden Oasis 2. Jungle River 3. Desolate Swamp 4. Underground Lake (the one I am attempting to create)
  10. Looking good but can't wait to see it in completed form!
  11. Congratulations to robuko and Christoph! Your winning is well deserved!
  12. I like the architecture academy idea. Maybe the different building techniques list can be added to the Kaliphlin initial post where it won't get lost in the multitudes of corespondance?
  13. I really enjoyed the story! And the MOC was outstanding as well!
  14. I saw this in Avalonia thread and thought I would just repost it here with my response. Captain BeerBeard, on 13 March 2012 - 02:01 AM, said: I have some input. I try to reply to all Avalonian mocs I see on page one. I hardly get any reply from Avalonian's in my moc's. This make's me feel like I'm not even building for Avalonia. So, I guess what I'm saying is "If I leave you a comment and you don't comment on my moc's, I'm not even going to look at your's anymore". This whole GoH thing was supposedly to help people improve building skills. There is no improvment without feedback. Tell me I'm wrong. It's just been nothing but typical Eurobricks. Competition. While I am not a member of Avalonia, I would like to comment on this... I myself am often times overwhelmed at all the amazing MOCs that are produced in Historica. If I were to comment on all the MOCs that have inspired me, I would have to quit building. I just want to put it out there that if you comment on one of my MOC's, thank you very much and I really apreciate it but it doesn't mean that I will neccesarily coment back. Not that I don't want to, or that I don't like your MOCs any more than ones I do happen to comment on. Its just time. The way I see it when I post something, is that it is for the enjoyment of the community but whether the individual enjoys it or not is up to the individual. I'm not going to get heartsick because I don't get any comments or thumbs up. Even though I try to comment on most of my guilds topics, I know that there are quite a few that I miss so I hope there won't be any hard feelings about it. GoH is an awesome project and IMO everyone here that continues to post MOCs is helping to make this project the awesomeness that it is... so please when you feel like you aren't a part of GoH, remember that somewhere, at sometime, your participation HAS made a mark on GoH.

  16. Very strange! Gilberte Henriche got the majority of votes in Barqa... - Balruf Whiteman: 5% - Eric Grimmson: 27% - Giberte Henriche: 47% - Gondabuggan: 1% (I think Gondabuggan's campaign got to Barqa after the vote had already taken place) - Jachleel Sered: 2% - Willihard Mittenlander: 18% Maybe its because Barqa is heavily populated by traders... either that or the Drow rigged the votes somehow.
  17. Your dwarven sentries are amazing! I have decided that I should concentrate all my energy on Challenge 3, so I won't be posting anymore MOCs other than maybe progress updates of Lion's Bluff, A Backpackers Guide to the Greater Siccus Badlands, and continuation of Mikel Kalores' backstory. BTW I've been meaning to ask but it keeps slipping my mind.... Is it ok with everyone if I inlude your characters in Mikel Kalores backstory as he meets them? Christoph - I like how you made your myth using limited bricks by using microfigs. Ingenious! NiceMarmot - I'm not too sure if I would be interested in a hard copy, but I would love to see all the Kaliphlin myths put together in sort of an ebook format. I haven't done any research yet but I think there probably is somewhere to put it together online for free.
  18. Good suggestion! I just have difficulty using multiple colors without making it look patchy but I have an idea that might work. BTW your burial chambers are looking great!
  19. I really wouldn't know where to begin with a guide on micro scene building but maybe if I get enough requests, I will. This was actually the second one I built on LDD, the first one which I had posted here before. After I finished the first one, I realized I could use the micro scene to quickly "sketch" myself a landscape for my MOC that will help me build the landscape in minifig scale later. And LDD has two benefits. 1. I don't have to search my unorganized stash for bricks and 2. I can also be laying in bed while I'm doing it too (I wasn't feeling well but couldn't sleep) I thought about doing a brick built spider but as Lego has come out with a few BBS themselves, I decided to use the molded spiders. And I am working on a brickbuilt monster for challenge 3 which this MOC is an intro to. But as I said before I was not satisfied with the cave MOC and I also realized that I had taken the tower off its base as I intended to change it a bit but in my hurry forgot about it. I hope to be able to upload new pictures of the tower before the deadline but for now here is my updated cave.
  20. Here is an updated micro build of my plans for Lion's Bluff in Barqa. As you can see the "Banish the sand" initiative seems to be working. I only expect to complete the castle section in the immediate future but the rest is my "vision" of the area where the castle will stand and should give a further idea of the Barqa landscape.
  21. Indeed I think this old orcish wizard has not traveled in Kaliphlin of late. In fact Barqa has had an ongoing initiative for several years now. It is called "Banish the sand initiative." Its been working in Barqa quite well. (picture forthcoming)
  22. Thanks! The baseplate, I think is from Bionicle, as it is the old dark gray with some orange splashes. I kind of wish it was the one that CptMugwash said as I think the new dark bluish gray might blend in better with the rocks. As for what else is in the caves... as CptMugwash also said, I decided to connect this myth challenge with Challenge 3. This "cave" is only part of a series of cave passageways that leads to an ancient creature that even the drow are fearful of and who happens to now be in possesion of a certain crystal (the drow also have worshiped this creature in the past and perhaps the real reason for the original drow wars ) CptMugwash, thanks and yes it is a stack of 81.6 x 15 Motorcycle Wheels. Anyway after I posted this I decided I was not satisfied with my work and totally revised the caves. (pictures forthcoming, probably tomorrow).
  23. That is such an inspiring throne room that I want to go build my own throne room now.... unfortunately I have to wait until I finish building my castle.
  24. My entry for Kaliphlin myth challenge: As some of you may already know, I, Mikel Kalores have discovered an ancient tower north east of Eastgate. To put it to good use, I decided to send a group of workers to repair and clean it up for use again. The men worked hard and made great progress. John, the foreman helped Ronny make and install a new rope ladder, while Jake and Thomas cleared away brush. Suddenly Jake yelled, "Fellows! Come look! I think I found a cave!" The others came running to check it out. John lit a torch and entered the cave. "Well what have we here? Looks as if there is a small passageway that goes deeper underground," he said after he had looked around inside. "Do you think anything lives in there?" asked Jake. "Not likely," answered Thomas. "This brush hasn't been touched until we got here. John, may I take the torch and see if the tunnel leads aywhere?" "Be my guest," John replied. "I hate caves. Just make sure you don't go too far in. I don't want to have to go searching for you in there." Thomas took the torch from John and entered the cave. Sure enough there was a small tunnel leading deeper into the ground. Thomas followed it for about thirty feet and then it opened up into small cavern. He swung the torch around and gasped in fright. The cavern was filled with huge spiders some bigger than his head. He turned and ran yelling, "Spiders!" all the way back to the cave entrance. The others had heard Thomas' yelling and having gotten their axes and torches, were ready. Thomas ran up to them pointing behind him. "Giant spiders!" he exclaimed. They waited a bit and then they saw them scurrying toward them; huge spiders bigger than a man's head and one or two nearly half the size of a man. They hacked with their axes and waved their torches and finally managed to kill all the spiders that had followed Thomas. John saved a few of the spider corpses that had been least mutalated to send to me. "We must let Mikel know at once," he told the others. "The myths are true. Below the surface of Kaliphlin, in the tunnels and caverns, live a giant breed of spiders." And so that is how I came to write about the giant spiders of myth in my book, A Backpackers Guide to the Greater Siccus Badlands. Sorry about the low quality of the photos. My "light" box that I had used for my Barqa Coffee House was too small so I rigged up something. It wasn't the best so I am working on another solution.
  25. Ahh yes, thanks! I quite missed that although from the story he sounded quite suspicious as it is...
