  1. I guess we're a minority, those of us who don't care Exoforce is going... I'm actually excited. It clears up space for another (IMO better) theme. I obviously want Pirates...but we will see.
  2. daaayyymmmm. This thing is beautiful! I'm looking forward to getting all my Lego into my dorm room so I can start building again...
  3. The conversation started around the MOC of the Admiral Benbow reminded me of an idea I had a couple years ago for a good way to reintroduce Pirate sets (should LEGO choose to go that route): "historical" and literary sets. There could obviously be many problems with such a "theme", but it could have some good usage at least for a year or two. Consider sets based around Treasure Island, Peter Pan, famous historical pirates (Blackbeard, Henry Morgan, Black Bart Roberts, Calico Jack Rackham), historical forts (Saint Augustine's Castillo de san Marcos)... This would solve a few problems inherent with other theme ideas. The best way to determine/generate interest in Pirates would be through Impulse sets (maybe why LEGO brought that kind of thing back?). How does all this sound to you guys?
  4. Mine are just piled in a tote box. I don't have that many instructions anymore...I'm going to try to sell off the ones I have, since I can get all of them on Peeron anyways.
  5. I'm daphnebluestrat because... ...my guitar is a Daphne blue Fender Stratocaster.
  6. "Missed The Boat" - Modest Mouse
  7. Here's the Wiki about "Naval Artillery In The Age Of Sail"...found it after I asked about chasers the other day. Enjoy, all. I personally agree that Lego cannons are probably in the neighborhood of 18 to 20 pounders...but I'm certainly no expert.
  8. There's actually a whole tread with links to threads about cannons, including one on cannon gauges. Check it out.
  9. If it were Pirates, or a good Castle set, it would be open and built in a heartbeat. Anything else, and I would probably look into selling it, even if for less than its "value". Lego is meant to be played with!
  10. Made my first excursion into Bricklink today...ooh boy. Not a good thing for a college student to do often :-| X-O :-/ Picked up some parts for my first major build in quite some time, and a few red Imperial Guards just because they weren't too expensive (and I only had four... ;-) )
  11. It's short life has already ended...and my stuff's all at home (I'm at college now). I'm bringing it here though in a couple weeks, and I'll take pictures of my ship's current state. It's nothing too magnificent, but there's a project in the works... *y*
  12. Wow...I really like the Amidalas in particular. Can't wait to see Max Rebo & Co.!
  13. Aha...thank you one and all!
  14. So, does anybody know what the term would be for cannons mounted on the bow of a ship? Would it be a "bow chaser" (as opposed to stern chaser) or is there another name? I searched through a few of the longer cannon threads and never really found anything applicable...
  15. Hey...I just set up a store a couple days ago, with plans to sell off about 40 various Star Wars Clone troopers, all brand new. They're still just in my "stockroom" since I don't have my Legos here at college yet...but does anybody know how well the Clone Troopers sell? I have them priced slightly below the average for brand new Clone troopers...
  16. Wow...just checked out the Castle '08 pictures, and if '09 will be anything like '08 (quality/coolness, whether or not it's fantasy), I'm definitely in!
  17. Amen...bet they're kicking themselves over that. Or at least, I HOPE they are... To add a new (pretty mild) gripe: Pirates/soldiers can NOT shoot their muskets! When held in a "firing position" they hold them at waist-level...they got it right with the Wild West by having the handles on the rifles, so the figures could hold them to their shoulders. Too bad they didn't do muskets that way...maybe if they (ever) release Pirates again, they'll go that route.
  18. I wonder why that would be...correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there more sets with Reds than with Blues?
  19. Blue/Soldiers/French/whatever are the coolest I think...mostly because I don't have any, maybe? But hopefully I shall soon...then my MOCship will actually have Marines.
  20. Hey, Dadster. I'm new here myself...one of the great things I've already started to notice here is that nobody seems to care what age you are, as long as you love Lego. Wow, it sounds corny to actually type that out... ...but welcome, from a fellow newcomer.
  21. I like the BSB, but I think it should've been a *little*built taller...IE enough to have a deck instead of just a gaping hole, but still have enough room to stand figures up inside. And I agree with an earlier poster (whos name I forget)...the slanted quarterdeck is a tad silly.
  22. "Castle fan" does not, sadly, translate into "Castle afficianado". I really don't have too much Castle stuff...most of it is from the early-90s (and is, most unfortunately, in very bad shape), except for a couple little sets from the late 90's and a few Viking sets. Maybe I should clarify my "no dark age" statement...I've never stopped loving to PLAY (or build, for you stodgy grown-up types) with Legos, but my acquisition of new sets has been minimal until the last couple years. Something which I hope to remedy in the near future.
  23. Haha...well she's not as obsessed as I am, and not interested in detailed realistic model-building or anything like that...so it usually works out pretty peacefully. Except that time I tried to press half of her pirate ship's crew into service on my (short-lived) warship... 8-|
  24. I think I like the idea of the Lars' moisture farm, complete with the Tusken ambush and maybe Obi-Wan's house as well. Good opportunity for six or seven minifigs, cool buildings, a vehicle or two...plus, easily recognizable, and it appears in both trilogies. They could maybe even include minifigs of Cleeg Lars and YOUNG Owen and Beru...
  25. Thanks guys...it's good to be here. I actually *do* have a girlfriend (of three years), and she likes Lego too and is (at least mildly?) supportive of my habit. I'm brand new to buying Lego online...anywhere else to look besides eBay and Bricklink?
