Woodward Forest Outlaw Hideout
mephistopheles replied to mephistopheles's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! No, the modular is house is absolutely of the table. That is the 1 MOC I will never de-build. The roof, as it is, is pretty much done on purpose. It should give the MOC a shanty feeling. This house is built by thieves not by carpenters and masons! -
Hi! I made another little vignette for an in-guild title. This hideout is located in the Woodward Forest in Avalonia. Surrounded by large pine trees a path leads to an old rock on which the Brotherhood of the Stag built a house. Nobody knows exactly were this place is. The leaders of the Brotherhood (which actually consists of many different gangs) use this place to meet regularly and discuss important matters. With this built I claim the Prince of the Forest title! Unfortunately the pictures are not the best. I hope you like this, since I had to sacrifice my Werewolf Encounter MOC to build this. My modular house consumes almost all the parts and money I have, so I can build these vignettes only from the few spare parts I have.

YAY!!!! This is exactly the effect I was looking for! You rock! I totally get what you are saying I will give it a try. Now imagine a forest built with this tree technique with trees of different height so that some of the leaf layers overlap. You can make an incredibly dense forest. The trick will be to leave more space between the lowest leaf layer and the ground so a minifig can stand in there and you can make photos from the figs perspective looking up. Imagine a road leading through such a forest. The leaf layers overlap above the road. Now my only complaint is that these stalks are not available in dark green... -
Congrats to this wonderful Mary Poppins!

Normally I am not a fan of the arabic (= kaliphilin) style, but this looks really great so far! Congrats from Avalonia! Can't wait for you to finish it! -

I am curious what you came up with! For me the scopes worked well. My larger trees went 8-9 scopes high and I had no problems with them. Well I didn't have too many stalks attached, maybe that extra weight makes the difference. -
Lovely! I love the originality of this build. this is really something new! Congrats to the double MOC expert, with only 35 posts. How did you make that???

I've spent the last 5 minutes trying to find words to express how great this is, but there are no such words. This is beyond sanity. Also the bricks in this build might cost more than my car.

Exquisite build! I love the idea!

Dear Captain my Captain! Thanks for your help! I really appreciate that! I think 8-10 scopes height is enough. The trees shouldn't all be the same size. Just please scatter these trees around on base plate and make a few picks form the side. Can't wait to see it. Meanwhile I visit Bricklink -
I agree with my fellow guild members: the roof and the tree are really great! There is nothing to criticize here, good job!

Dear guild members! I think I might have come up with a new tree technique. Before using it in other MOC's and posting it in a more public thread I want to have your opinion on this. I had used telescopes for tree building in an earlier MOC, but it disturbed me that when I looked into MOC from the side it didn't felt dense enough. Now I thought what if I turn the tree upside down (=the studs of the telescopes are looking down), then I can attach the stalks to the limb elements so that they hang down, too. Unfortunately I don't own any more stalks then these, but imagine a Forest built with this technique. This way you get the dense effect when looking into the MOC from the side (parallel to the baseplate). I am thinking of placing a huge stalk/scope/limb order now. -
Lack of medieval figs in minifig series.

I am sorry to see that I stand alone with my love for artisans. In a MOC I would only use 1 Minstrel or 1 Druid, etc. But I would use plenty of farmers, shepherds, woodcutters etc. Bricklink and customization is my only friend apparently. -
Hey! Write your own jokes dude, that one is taken

Thanks for your nice words guys!

"Battle at Elemental Plateau" by Thoy Bradley

@gabe: I personally agree with you. When I don't like a MOC but wish to comment I always try to reasonably explain my point of view and/or add constructive criticism. I didn't say that I agree with Captain BeerBeard's style at all, but I didn't find his comment so offensive that he needs to get warned like this. Everybody can easily skip over such a comment. I think warnings are appropriate only if rough language is used or the comment contains ad hominem attacks. My 2 cents. -

I am sorry to say, but I have to defend Captain BeerBeard here. I have read his comment a few times and I can't find anything offensive or insulting in it. People should have the right to say if they don't like something and why they don't like it. I can't see how he violated any written or unwritten ethical rule here. -

No need to apologize! I think we are mainly all grown ups here with a lot of stuff going on in real life. -
How did you make the cat? It's so realistic!!! I likt this MOC, it's full of live and has some little scenes in it that make me smile. Like that chained Skeleton.

After all, this hobby is all about personal taste. I don't like this build. Not because it is bad or repetitive or anything. I can see that he put good work in it and the "quality", lets go with this word, is very good. Still neither form nor color scheme approve to me. I still agree with Angeli's last comment though, oh and thanks for that Bob Carney link!
