Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory
JimBee replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: Sorry Jeb, forgot again! 10 and 5 dmg added to the appropriate enemies. Also, last round I made a mistake with Alexis' damage: she should have dealt 144; fixed this round. Results of Round 2 of Broken Bridge Brawl: >Hole vs. Gloom Widow A - Spellspin of Lightning (8 hits, 15+25 x2=80 lightning dmg to Aquaphant, Shy Shells, Gloom Widows, 40 to Tangleweeds A and B) >Alexis vs. Gloom Widow C - Kiss & Make Up (2x20 +32 x4 /2=144 +72 from last round ice/lightning/darkness dmg, enamored for 3 rounds) >Skrall vs. Aquaphant - Hit (11+2+4+28 x4 x3 x3 x2=3240 lightning/fire dmg, KO'd) >Namyrra summons Mediq (29 health restored, -5 ether) >Namyrra vs. Gloom Widow B - Special Damage Special Damage (Weeping Thread: 33/2-10=6 water dmg, weakened for 3 rounds) >Stigveladi vs. Shy Shell B - Spell (12+16=28 ice dmg, -1 ether) >Nur vs. Shy Shell A - Spell (12+22 x2 +10=78 lightning dmg, -1 ether) Tangleweed A vs. Hoke - Free Hit (25 /2 -21=0 dmg) >Hoke counterstrikes for 12 dmg Tangleweed B vs. Alexis - Free Hit (25/2 -3=9 dmg) >Alexis counterstrikes for 16 dmg Tangleweed C vs. Skrall - Free Hit (25/2 -8=4 dmg) Tangleweed D vs. Namyrra - Free Hit (25/2 -10=2 dmg) Hoke performs a Spellspin of lightning, which shocks most of the enemies residing in the river water. Alexis continues her assault on Gloom Widow C, who cannot seem to take its eight eyes off of her. Skrall gets his revenge on the Aquaphant and sends it into oblivion with a precise and calculated shot. A single bolt bores a hole straight between the charging beast's eyes, with a force so great that it stops the mammoth's movement immediately. Namyrra gets a reminder from the last battle's spiders, but Nur and Amma follow up with ice and lightning spells. OOC: Yes, partially because of diplomacy, and partially because it makes more sense to have a lawful, tanky badass like Docken do it. Somehow arresting someone twice Hybros' size doesn't make sense.

Wholeheartedly agree. Like you said, it was once cool to give out the best loot, but of course that isn't viable as we've seen. I've been saying the same thing since the beginning: truly try to limit the SP on artifacts. Even the Heavy Armor is teetering on the line of OP (throw a Slowed-effect true to the artifact's name and it would be great). I'd say they're rare enough to not be a problem. They're pretty cool IMO. Maybe limit them to just upgrading shields if we have to, but not right now. Almost had two in the battle. Then I remembered dropping four Aquamarines might anger the powers that be. (And also maybe took pity on my questies). I don't think the item is OP, but it certainly negates once-lethal effects like Petrified and Doomed.

QM Note: Right, currently I am only allowing things like healing and scroll casting to happen once between battles. You can't cast, rest, then cast again. But you can cast then rest, or rest then cast. As long as you've done a battle. Quarryman, not sure what you were trying to accomplish with the helmet switching, you end up with the same amount of ether either way. The heroes rest, exchange items, and prepare for the next battle. They know it will be a tough one. They make their way east towards the Broken Bridge, where an Aquaphant, among many other creatures, emerge from the water below (height advantage +1). That sounds fair, but I still don't think we need to adjust a rule for another rule. The Knight's ability to upgrade artifacts... should not interfere with other parts of the game like that. I'm actually not sure if it's a sound solution yet. But I think this is a good suggestion, Chromeknight, because for switching in and out of Rogue classes you must go on a quest to make money, obviously. Another thing I wanted to mention was that we kind of already have a good Knight-exclusive ability, which is actually just limited to the Mystic Knight. Enchantment is an awesome way to upgrade shields and weapons, and is always cheaper than upgrading at the blacksmith. The penalty is ether, but I wish this ability could be implemented into other Knight classes as well, somehow. I think it would go a long way for balancing SP on Knights vs. non-Knights. On a completely different note, I am just loving Quest #72 so far.

"Noted." Hybros tilted his head in anger, and reached halfway for his sword. He was about to shout back at Guts, but thought better of it. "You do not know anything about about me..." he muttered under his breath. "Docken, I think it would be best if you came with me. We have a poisoner to deal with." Hybros began to seek out Lord Marsh.

Hybros squinted his eyes a little at Guts, slightly offended by this story that they would make up. "Searching their rooms of course. I found who we need to stop, did I not?"

Not realizing Daneeka was standing there next to Guts, Hybros looked down. This wasn't quite the way he wished to impress the ex-Ji Pei. "...That sounds like a good idea, Docken. I wanted to buy time with Felix in the hallway, but she was too powerful for me. We will have to wait until we are able to, eh, go back in time again. Or we can attempt to stop Lord Marsh now."

I don't think there should be any penalty for switching classes. Right now I think it's a valid strategy to switch to a gold-gaining class for a while and then switch back to pay for expenses, and the same would probably apply if we implemented other class-exclusive advantages. Besides, the costs that come with other classes are enough to begin with - 50 gold is a good amount of the earnings from a short quest, and if that would be the cost of switching, then there would be no point as there would b no money left to upgrade, buy consumables, etc. I see no reason switching back and forth should be penalized, especially if it were to balance another new rule about Knights being able to upgrade artifacts' SP. Simple is better, and there's no reason to change a bunch of rules to balance one thing.

"...Well then perhaps this is the back-up plan this note speaks of? I did not count the gold. No time with Felix breathing down my neck, eheh... Speaking of which, she will be here any minute. I do not believe a battle in front of all these guests would be very subtle, hehe..."

Hybros bursts back into the dining hall, holding his hat down on his head and glancing feverishly behind him. When he noticed a few raised eyebrows directed towards him, he took a gulp and assumed the calmer nature that he had left the room with. He bustled quickly over to Guts and Docken, with Nyx nowhere to be seen. "Hey, listen. I found..." He lowered his voice after catching his breath. "I found someone involved in this poisoning plot. Lord Marsh is either the mastermind behind this, or the poisoner himself. I found a note in his nightstand, along with a bag of gold." He shoved the note into Guts' hands. "Someone may have planted that, but I doubt it. But... I have run into a problem... eheh... er, I was searching the guests' rooms, and I might have, eh... disturbed Lady Felix's belongings. I must hide, quickly... Eheh, what did you find?"

Agreed, but then I think it would also be fair to limit the amount of gold Rogues can make somehow. They should have a distinct advantage to be able to afford more, yes, but as it is now I and any other Rogue class can make a Nostrum pay for itself four- or five-fold in a battle. And yes, it has taken me a very long time (my entire Heroica career, basically) to gain the immunites and advantages that I have now. I was also pretty lucky with loot drops. That's another thing that I think should change (and it is beginning to, a little) is too many powerful drops. I don't think Smelling Salts are bad at all. To attack twice or use items more frequently is always a plus, even if it means more Free Hits in some cases (i.e. too much SP in one party, poke poke UQers ).

In the Mass Effect universe, the bleeding equivalent in synthetic enemies is overloaded omni-capacitors. Just to throw that out there. Sorry. Maybe simple was a better way to define him, but I mentioned that I thought he had a low intelligence "score" when we were discussing DnD stats. Like Flipz said, characters can have a low INT score but a high WIS one, making them aware and, well, wise, but they don't sit in the library all day. That is how I see Cronk anyways. Conversely, Docken, in my eyes, has a high INT and low WIS. He is as smart as Brickdoctor is, so in-universe that would mean he reads up on quests and other Heroica information in the library, etc. He's not extremely wise because he only applies his knowledge to stats rather than personal, moral enrichment or awareness of his surroundings.
