I feel the same way as you do. I was going to throw my boxes away before I heard about resale value. Possibly those flattened boxes are of no use all my life, unless I go bankrupt or move to another country someday. Instructions are more important. But I have yet to buy any used sets. I do enjoy to cut the tape and open new plastic bags. :) I have a question, too. If you have ever bought a used set or some used bricks, can you tell the bricks are used from the appearance? Lego is of high quality. I doubt there will be any obvious difference.

In 10211 Grand Emporium, there is a White Plant Flower 2 x 2 with Rounded Open Stud, with part number 472801. However, the part number in the replacement system is 98262, which is solid stud flower. My set has the solid stud flower. It can't be placed at the roof. I requested a replacement and still got a solid stud one. I'll have to ask them once again about it.

Well said! I just bought Haunted House. It's also sand green. Now I am totally fine to pass GG. I just checked your collection on Brickset. I am going to make my list, too. It could be very fun to collect brick by brick. Too bad I am a busy adult who left new Town Hall in closet unopened for months. Hope when I have better income and my own house. Those sets are still on market.

You were so lucky! The city where I live is not very big. It's hard to find some large Lego sets for sale. As for ebay, I'll need to be patient like you did. That's exactly like the words a commodore will say. :) Those three caught my eye, too. I persuade myself there will be better old fashioned trains in the future. Yesterday, I build the mini Cafe Corner. At least I could have the mini versions of them. So now, I feel peaceful. :) I purchased my first Lego set this January, but didn't really get into Lego until I built the Fire Brigade last month. It was so amazing. Architect used to be my dream job.

For Green Grocer, if you substitute all the 1x8 sand green bricks, it would be still over $300. Then it's better to buy a used complete one at ebay for $400. Too much for me and I gave it up.

I am fairly new to Lego, mainly interested in Lego houses or buildings. There are many sets that I would buy with no doubt if they were still in MSRP, like the Emerald Night Train, Green Grocer... However, the price of a set can be already doubled even if it has only been discontinued for one year. On one hand I could use that money to buy several more great sets, on the other hand some of the discontinued sets are so tempting. The only discontinued set I have bought now is Winter Village Toy Shop this month, since my winter village really can't miss a nice Christmas tree. Maybe it will be the only one. I know sometimes I am just torturing myself.

The price of Toy Shop in US is very high now, because this holiday is coming. I just asked my friend in another country to buy one for me at about 106 dollars shipped. This is my first time to buy anything more than MSRP. After seeing your photo, I feel that I shouldn't miss the whole winter village line. :) I heard that the Bakery would be discontinued this December? I will buy it anytime soon.

This is gorgeous! With some proper lighting, this crystal palace could shine beautifully. I agree that at first glance, it seems to have too much transparency. I googled the photo of the real Crystal Palace in Spain. It does have more frames in the second floor.

They look so cool, especial the fire temple. I am not familiar with Ninjago sets, because they are too boy-oriented to me.

I was looking for the swimming pool set. However, the one in the photo really looks strange. The only one I am interested in is the karate set. I love the "忍者" character there, but I doubt it is a sticker?

This village is so beautiful! I don't have any winter village set now. Too bad the toy shop is already discontinued.

I am fairly new to Lego, too. Your MOC made me want to get a 10230 in no time!

Review: 10228 Haunted House
nana replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thank you! I found a 10%off coupon at the holiday catalog they just mailed to me. In fact, we have this coupon in every catalog, at least in US. Double points can be earned on value after discount. The only thing is that I'll need to drive 30 miles downtown. Cheers. I always love to visit Lego stores. Alice -

Hi, Since HH is marked as exclusive, is this set sold only at lego store/lego.com? If that, now we have double VIP and FS this month at lego.com, is this a good chance to buy it? Or maybe we can have a better deal at holidays? I just bought four modulars. I wish I had more budget to buy the discontinued the Green Grocer, but unfortunately I don't. HH is also sand green, but defintely not cheap either. Alice -
I think there is too much yellow/orange/red in the whole modular line. I definitely hope the next one could have some different color. I wish I had the green grocer.

I finished Fire Station last night. It was fabulous! I bought the other three modular sets, too! I hope I could buy tower bridge, too. However I am a student. I can't afford to buy a lot in a short time. :(

Hi, I just saw modular buildings are on sale at walmart, most of them 121 dollars before tax, not too much more than BOGO sale. I just bought Fire Station and plan to get Pet Shop and Grand Emporium. Should I wait for the BOGO or buy them right now? I am enjoying my time of building Fire Station, so I am not in a hurry. They are so expensive. I won't have budget left for other sets this holiday. For this money I could buy many more smaller sets.... And what do you think of the mini modulars. Since I missed the first two modular sets, is it worth buying this cute mini copy? Thank you! Alice

Any opensource software?
nana replied to nana's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi JopieK, Yes, it's a challenge. What I am trying to make is not such a powerful tool as LDview to let others use, but something really simple to help myself to do some research. As a start, it could be enough to support only several basic bricks. Hope I could find something useful in the codes of LDview, otherwise I'll have to rely on my understanding of the LDraw file format. Thank you! Alice -
Any opensource software?
nana replied to nana's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi Philo, Thank you so much. I managed to compile an old version of LDraw. Without any comment, it is extremely hard to understand the codes. I'll check out the LeoCAD later. Alice -
Hi, I am trying to make a Lego designer myself. First I need to write an interface using OpenGL to read Ldraw DAT files, but it will take some time, do you know if there is any opensource software I could refer to? Any clues will be most appreciated! Alice

If yes, could it be in the spring of 2013? Personally, I am a little disappointed with the new summer friends sets, because most of them are related to farm life. I can see more possible sets on the map of the Heartlake City, the map you can find in the booklets of any friends set. I was wondering if there would be more to release in the future as it was shown there.

Got this set today. I love it. It's a little bit over priced though.

Thank you for your nice review. I am thinking of buying this one because I want that bunny, but one bunny for 9.99 dollars? Also I am thinking to collect the friends set all ~~
