Yes it will. Greg said it's why Teridax also banished the Ignika, because it will turn black if it was inside the MU with Teridax being the Great Spriit.

If Ignika returns to a Teridax controlled MU, it will turn black and kill everything. So MN has to find some way out of Ignika if he wants to return to his universe.

Oh yeh one more thing: Mata Nui can't go back to MU with Iggy, because as soon Iggy is inside the MU, big boom.

I agree with you in that it might be a placeholder. If you look closely, it doesn't have the new 2009 hand pieces, but the old ones.
