  1. Part of that is an awful lot of girls name end in the "uh" sound even if not in a "a" exactly.
  2. Personally, among the small sets, Andrew is my #3 pick. Olivia's Workshop Then Emma's Design Studio Then the piano and microphones in this one. Maybe I'll eventually pick up the other two but neither is excessively interesting to me.
  3. Around here, this set is selling for $10 and IS the Andrea impulse set. where did you purchase it? ETA: Do you mean the $6 sets as the impulse sets?
  4. dreading a root canal

  5. Thank you Hinckley! I didn't know that profile thing existed!
  6. Hinckley: Where do you see that? I see: Dooby dooby dooba... PERRY! He's a semi-aquatic, egg-laying mammal of action! And a big Ninaju thing And a quote about Emma.
  7. WOW! Have a due date yet? This new kid will be so lucky with all the Lego already in your house!
  8. I thought this at first. Except then I realized that these reminded me of my dollhouse figures -- and I managed to play with them despite their hands being unable to hold ANYTHING at all. And they may have had walking legs -- I don't remember. I "bounced" them around the dollhouse from one place to another and didn't think twice about it (And laid them on the floor when they got to the destination since they did not stand up on their own). Oh and I didn't have dollhouse figures that could change clothes either. They were stuck the way we bought them. So compared to that these characters have lots of flexibility.
  9. Being vegetarian is probably more common among girls than guys. Legogal: AT our Toys R Us, the regular friends sets were $9.99 just like anywhere else. The house was $69.99 and the only price differential I saw was the Treehouse at $17.99 However... I have noticed in the past that Toys R Us jacked up the price of Legos. Its one reason I don't go there unless I have to to buy Legos. As for flying off the shelves: I'd agree. On jan 1/2, I could find Friends everywhere I went. Now I go and there are sets completely GONE. The treehouse is hard to find anywhere. Stephanie's convertible was gone in one store. The workshop in another. The two smallest sets are wiped off the shelves most places.
  10. Sarah's top looks like it'd make a good swimsuit.
  11. I'm too new to want to start a new topic so I'll just put this here. Where do promotional sets usually come out? Where should I be looking if I want the bagged Friends sets?
  12. $0 Its going to be more in 2012 though!
  13. I must admit one reason I decided to get the Beauty Shop as my second set and not the Treehouse is the desire not to get two sets with the same figures in them. To diversify some.
  14. The Inventor's Workshop is the first one I put together too! Is there a place to post sets in their native habitats even if they are not MOCs? In working with Olivia...she's smaller than I expected. Reminds me a lot of the dollhouse people when I was growing up. Or how I imagine they would feel in my hand if I handled them as a grownup anyway.
  15. They don't do that anymore? Yikes. Sometimes I used to buy a set FOR the alternative model and hope I could figure it out!
  16. Looking forward to your reviews! And yeah, I can't buy all the Friends sets no matter what so I'm trying to prioritize. And leave room for summer sets (though it seems to be a lot of boats and planes and fewer buildings!). And I want the Advent... but at $40-50 not sure THAT is going to happen! Time will tell.
  17. it -looks- like they may be getting better at that this year? Maybe alongside their efforts to attract more females to current day Legos (as opposed to 30 year ago Legos)? And I guess I didn't put up with it. These are the first non-Duplo sets I've bought in a decade. (And even in Duplo I bought most of it secondhand/received it as gifts)
  18. I do think they need more male minidolls. I remember, growing up, after my parents caved on Barbies they still insisted they would NOT buy a Ken. So we put a cheap Barbie into pants and called her the "Father" of our families (or the boyfriend, etc. She was the token male for stuff that needed males) I could easily see using minifig hair (or a hat) on one of your extra minidolls that looks like it is wearing shorts and calling him Mike. :) If you don't have any other sets, you can even buy one of those collectible sets hoping to get something you can use. (though personally, I want bam bam so I'm going to have to find another way) Esp because so far the only male is in the most expensive set (though I suspect the Riding Academy set will be even more expensive!)
  19. I just built this set and I noticed the parts count at the end is wrong. Its says there are 6 round lt gray pieces (used as chemical covers) and 2 round dk gray pieces, but the instructions have you using *3* round dk gray pieces (one as a cover on the flash and two in the vise). Luckily, there are enough parts available in the set. But I was surprised to see this. Also, is that pink shelf underneath the vise necessary? I am trying to remember -- but it seems like every vise I can remember hangs off the edge of the bench they are on. Certainly it is not necessary for the build (I left it off at first since I missed it) ETA: The hair that comes with this set only has 2 holes in it. I thought I'd read that the hair had 3 holes? So maybe different hairstyles have different numbers of holes?
  20. Any thoughts of how you are going to store these sets? If the set has several bags inside, do you mix all the pieces together when storing for later putting together? Do you carefully keep track of what was in each bag and then separately ziploc for putting together "by bag" in the future? Or do you just toss the pieces in with your bigger collection? I think I at least mostly want to keep them separated by set because I do intend to hand these to my daughter one day for her to play with.
  21. Anyone who has this set already: Have you played with it with the minidolls? How do they do on the swing?
  22. Hey if girls can be expected to play with more boyish sets, why can't boys play with those that are more geared to girls?

  23. This review almost makes me want to get 2-3 sets and see if I can figure out how to make the splash pool big enough to put two minidolls in! BTW where did the clear circles come from? That's a neat effect!
  24. I guess I didn't get the feeling they owned their own shops. Just shopped there/worked there. But I did think they were older than preteen -- 15 or 16. One has her own car after all! So, driving age.
  25. My guess is that minidolls are more expensive than minifigs, just because of this issue. Or that Friends set has subbed in animals and accessories instead of more people-equivalents.
