MOC Revolutions
Blakbird replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's my render, but as it says in the description on Brickshelf, the MOC is by RoscoPC. I say the same thing in the post above. I intentionally put these new ones later in the thread because the first post eats up enough bandwidth already. The colors used in the animations are exactly the same as the colors used in the "not moving renders". The only reason they look different is the size and the fact that I had to make them indexed color to be animated GIF files. -
MOC Revolutions

Just when you thought there were no more MOC CAD files to animate, I bring you some more. Here are 3 of RoscoPC's F1 cars including the Brabham BT46B, the Brabham BT52, and the Ferrari 312 T. This is an older MOC of a monster truck by Miezel. And finally, Mahjqa's wonderful Stilzkin Indrik arctic vehicle. -
My first MOC

I've been looking more closely at RoscoPC's cars as I do some renders, and the more I look the more impressed I am. The first I rendered was his Brabham B46B fan car. I didn't really know anything about this car so I looked it up on Wikipedia. The first thing you appreciate when you look closely is what an accurate model it is. You could certainly call it "Model Team" in that it has every detail replicated, and everything is perfectly to scale. But then when you strip away the appearance, you find that underneath is a fantastic functional Technic creation. It has steering and suspension an a diff and an engine, but even better than that is the fact that every one of those features is set up exactly like the real car. The front suspension at first appears conventional with upper and lower control arms, but then you find if you look closely that the shock absorber is not attached to either arm but to a link which is levered to the upper arm. This results in a different amount of shock stroke than suspension travel. At the rear we see a muli-link suspension with anti-roll bars. We can also see the horizontally opposed (boxer style) 12 cylinder engine and the carefully created exhaust. And finally, we can see what made this car famous which is the giant rear fan used "for cooling". Of course, in reality it was an aerodynamic device which sucked the car down onto the tarmac and greatly increased traction. It was banned after only one race. It is a testament to RoscoPC scale model that if you do a Google image search for Brabham B46B, most of the returned images are of his model. Beyond that, at a small image size it is hard to tell which are photographs and which are the LEGO model. You can see a few more renders at my Brickshelf account. Stay tuned for renders of some of his other cars.

For what it's worth, I appreciate DLuders efforts to make these files very much. When I am actually duplicating a MOC or making a CAD file of it, I'm often not connected to the Internet and/or I want to be able to scroll through the images much faster than I could on Brickshelf. I usually end up making a PDF myself which takes forever. David's efforts save me a lot of time. The only downside is that Mega-Upload is blocked at work so I can't download anything until I get home!

MOC Revolutions

That is probably because the primitives used to create the flexible parts are in the "unofficial" parts folder and LPub does not look in there. In order to get LPub to see them, copy those parts into the regular parts library folder. -

For me personally, if all MOCs were grouped together in one forum then I wouldn't look at it any more. There are too many other categories of MOCs that I don't care about, and I wouldn't have time to go through all of them just to find the occasional Technic MOC. -

Care to share the SR3D file so I can make a render of it? -
Large Scale Technic Cars

Now that much more information on the Unimog is available and we know it is really orange, I've decided to post a list of the parts needed to make this car in orange. Perhaps there is someone who has more time than I do who can figure out how many of these orange parts really exist at this point. -

I read this forum pretty much every day, and I generally look at every topic with new content in it. The traffic is not particularly high, so for me dividing it into subforums would just slow down my browsing. If traffic were much higher, then that might be a different matter. Also keep in mind that if you divide it up into sections which are too specialized, inevitably some confused people will post in the wrong subforum which will either require more moderation or potentially topics being missed. My vote is to leave it as it is. I definitely appreciated the last change which split off Bionicle though. There was a morass of Bionicle posts which didn't interest me at all and resulted in either a lot of work to find the Technic posts or a lot of things missed. I find the crossover between Technic, Mindstorms, and Model Team close enough that I want to see all of them. Good thing I don't read "Star Wars" because I'd never keep up! -

I use LSynth. I think SR3D is able to generate some flexible parts, but not all of them yet. You can find an LSynth tutorial at hollywood.it. -

Here are a couple of new animations. First is of RoscoPC's F1 cars since I have been thinking about them lately; I've also done LasseD's new Scania: -

I think the best choice would be Designer Han's lowboy truck and trailer. That's what I have my 8043 on. -
Monster trucks
Blakbird replied to dbostream's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I couldn't resist making a new render because I was not happy with the last one I did in 2009: Sariel's new monster truck looks comparable in size, so I would love to see them sitting side by side. -
Those two cars are a couple of my favorite Technic MOCs ever. I am very pleased to hear that you are considering making a CAD file of the 911, because I will certainly build one. It needs to be on my shelf next to the other Supercar MOCS. Now if only you would do the same to the Veyron....... (at least it is possible since it still assembled).

[REVIEW] 8070 Supercar
Blakbird replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've never tried to stop it by doing anything other than push the parts in real tight. That usually does the trick. It's usually not a big enough problem to do anything else. By the way, I see that you've quoted me in your signature. I'm honored! -

This is not terribly unusual. The Technic crankshaft part only grips the axle over a 1/2 stud length, so it does not hold very tight. Since the end of the axle is rounded, if it not pushed in completely all the way it can pop out under torque (the rounded end produces a component of axial thrust under torque). Luckily, you can just push it back in. Ideally, you should have a way to "capture" the axle so it cannot slide. -
Monster trucks

Grazi designed this one which is just incredible: I've built a version in blue. This also uses the Power Puller tires. If you have not seen them, they are bigger than you can imagine. A minifigure does not even come up to the hub. -
You will find no satisfying answer. I have ranted about several other such pieces such as the 1x6 thin yellow liftarm. The window frame you mention is especially odd since it actually would have been better in red in this model. Oh well. Just use a red one for your tow truck. I used a gray one for mine only because I had one. Finding the 12ea 68.8 wheels and tires for that thing is a real wallet buster as well, but you are almost there. I wish those were also made again.

The secret is to be awesome. Since you obviously already are, it should be no problem. I am scheduled to write a tutorial for TechnicBricks, but it has been very difficult to find the time due to my crazy life lately. The process is very lengthy to set up, but once you have everything set up then it is quite easy. It took me about 1 minute to set up the parameters for this render, and then it took my computer about 2 hours to render it. While I was at it, I made this:

Voila! Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful model and for taking the time to create the detailed instructions so we can all see how you've done it. I know that this is something that many have been pestering you about for a long time, and you've done a fine job of it. The next obvious question is, should I bother to take the time to create a PDF of the 80 individual pages of instructions, or should I just assume that DLuders has already done it?
