This sounds a LOT like a description of the BrickAtive modular "Old Town Pub" (even the colors match ~90%). Interestingly, every mentioning of this MOC is gone from their own website as well as from rebrickable. Could still find it on their flickr account though: This MOC has been realized (illegally, afaik) from a different brand. The pub/exhibition on the right hand side might fit the hardware store, the abandoned building on the left might be a tight fit for any type of business though.
