[Freebuild] The Gate of Homecoming
Ellohan Landskappet replied to Servertijd's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wow! This is so powerful! I'm new here but I've been following GoH for a while, and one of the things I've loved about it are the powerful storytellers that dwell in this subforum. Your story is so evocative! It has elements of the story of the prodigal son, except that the son has been away fulfilling his duty instead of shirking it ;) I know that this is a one-off because of Summer Joust, but I think it would be really interesting to continue this story. Perhaps a series of vignettes (in the literature sense) portraying how the son deals with finally coming home? How does he feel now that he is surrounded by peaceful scenery after years of war and loss--bitter? Grateful? Or is he angry with his father for keeping him from for so long? Regardless if you leave this storyline alone or not, I really liked it. As for the build, I loved that you've given a common color accent to the entire thing--the filling in between the stones in the street, the accents in the stonework of the walls, the roof to the left, and the top flag all look to be similar colors, and they help to keep the build grounded in the common setting. I like the small mushrooms dotted underneath the tree :) And the father looks suitably proud. Just two things I'm wondering about: often gatehouses had murder holes and arrow slits along the interior walls to stop any potential attackers. Honestly, I have no idea how one would accomplish this, but it would be a really neat detail if you had included that. Also, do you think it would be more impactful if the father was alone to greet the son's return? It would be less realistic, of course, but that's just a thought I had. Anyway, excellent job, and I can only hope to attain your level of skill. -

[Freebuild]: Ellohan's Tale: Awakening

Wow! Thank you for detailed feedback! The three differing points across the build was more subconscious than not, I think, but that being said I'll definitely keep that in mind for future builds. The photography tips are very helpful and much needed. I'll see what I can do about lighting--currently about to start university and not in a position to buy anything, even though I've discovered my house has a distressing lack of lamps! That being said, I'll definitely see what I can do to improve. I'll remember to keep natural things more irregular. It makes sense, and I was trying to do that with the terrain, but I guess I missed the memo on the path ha. And very helpful tips in regards to parts! Thank you very much Grover! Thank you! -

Thank you for your feedback! Yeah, I should have continued the terrain, but I'm woefully short on bricks because I keep all of my sets together. I guess I'll have to break that tradition coming up here lol. -
Thank you sir!

Ba-dum. He opened his eyes to a bare wasteland. Bare craggy rock bounded by cold, deep snow surrounded him. He coughed once and let out a long, grimy breath. His lungs felt heavy and dull. He hadn't known they could feel like that. His whole body ached. Ba-dum. His leg felt like it was on fire, he realized. The cold dulled it, but the pain still flared in his mind. With a turn of his head he saw the puddle of blood that lay around him. Sharp panic rose in him. Ba-dum. Three heartbeats to realize all that. Three heartbeats to take in the situation. Ba-dum. One heartbeat to realize he didn't know who he was. The panic rose, and threatened to engulf him. He gritted his teeth, shifted slowly. His leg screamed in agony and he closed his eyes. Maybe he should sleep. Maybe...he would...remember... Snow began to fall. Hello everyone! First MOC in GoH! And first MOC ever, actually. C&C very welcome.

Book IV - Avalonia: Guild Sign-up and Discussion
Ellohan Landskappet replied to Grover's topic in Guilds of Historica
Ellohan Landskappet declares allegiance to Avalonia! Born to a Mitgardian father of lesser nobility and an Avalonian mother of the same, he is a lesser offshoot of the ancient House Landskappet. However, at this time, he doesn't know any of that. In fact, he doesn't even know he's loyal to Avalonia--recently he woke up in a pile of snow with all of his memories gone, surrounded by blood. Excited to join this great guild! -

Thank you! This is very helpful. In that case I will join the Guilds...hopefully today. As for the history, I've actually read most of it (or at least most of the summaries). I've read the Google doc (well, skimmed) and I've gone through from time to time and looked at past books and challenges. And for the pfp...welp, I'll figure it out. I should figure it out eventually, right? Cheers -

Hello everyone, I'm new to Eurobricks (and new to MOCs if I'm being honest) but I've followed this community for a few years and I'm considering joining. I have a couple questions though. First, if I were to join, would it be ok to post a sigfig and all that jazz and then sit back and get acclimated for a while? Obviously I'll be working on a small MOC, but I'm a story driven person and I need to have a lot of details worked out before I start something like this. Second, how does one get the pfp to work?? I keep trying to download files and it keeps saying they're too big, even though I'm pretty sure they aren't. Thanks 😭 -
