  1. It's really a shame they didn't at least make those minifigure scale. Not necessarily with backs, etc, but minifigure scale. I guess I'm thinking like the size of the holiday town set with the music store/toy store. That set was incredibly popular and inspired SO MANY alternative builds/modifications. Making the HOTW series that size would've been outstanding. Lego could keep their costs down (as opposed to a 3000+ piece set) and demand would've been really high I think. Oh well.
  2. I agree with that, jonwil. But I do agree it would be cool to see some Asian architecture that's not 100 different colors and so bizarre looking. I do like the ninjago city sets quite a bit, but something more realistically Asian would be cool.
  3. Brickset review is finally up. They also explain they were late in getting the set sent to them.
  4. I think we need to see more evidence of the series "falling in Lego's priority". Afterall, we're one year removed from a set that many ranked among the best ever. I certainly do have concerns, as we see more & more sets shrink. Look at some of the City sets like police & fire departments vs. 15-20 years ago. I don't really care about City sets, but they do show the direction Lego is going. Or the Holiday Main Street from a few years ago, that has spawned so many alt builds, including my own, the set's buildings are 6 deep. Shopping Street is small in terms of footprint used. Is this a new trend? Time will tell. Two things people commented on... one, I hate the Diner. It's one of 3 (soon to be 4) modulars I don't own. The architecture doesn't fit the aesthetic of the others at all. I also don't like 1950s-esque design in general. That said, the Diner is a fantastic representation of that era and they absolutely nailed it. So while I don't like it, I objectively respect how they accurately portrayed an era and its architecture, it just doesn't belong in the modular series with the rest, imo. My other complaint is people comparing sets to Rebrickable mocs like that's an insult. There are a LOT of fantastic MOCs out there that I feel hold their own with the modular building series.
  5. Just an observation I made... The last few years Brickset has been quick to publish a review of the new modular, as well as how the new modular looks next to others. This year, nothing. And the set was unveiled 3+ weeks ago.
  6. Nice work, Pauolo! Very creative and good luck!
  7. That makes a lot of sense now that I think about it more. I've lived in the Chicago area the entirety of my 48 years. Everything is a very square grid with very few angle streets and odd-directioned alleys, etc. So the old streets with narrow alleys in odd directions don't immediately come to mind. But they said it was European styled and now that I think of European cities and villages, this sort of design would fit right in.
  8. First, how come the reviewer's shelf didn't have plants or books with the pages facing out? Seriously, thanks for posting this. I love to see the modulars in different arrangements. I don't think the set looks that good next to the others. It looks like two buildings faced at random angles in the middle of the block for no apparent reason, which is odd.
  9. These two buildings take up an extremely small space on the baseplate. So much space out back and in front. Taking credit for calling it: the furniture store might (and ended up being) a furniture workshop/store).
  10. I agree. The lighting makes it look open. The view that we're seeing today makes me realize how small the furniture store must be. The first view shows studs in the back. And there's a lot of sidewalk space out front. So it must not be a very deep building. So of the two stores we suspected, the one you'd guess that needs a lot of space, the furniture store, is tiny. The one where you can put things on the wall, music, is bigger? Strange. I guess I learned what's up with those kids.
  11. I own all but 3 modulars. I love the modular series, but honestly, some of the MOCs out there on rebrickable are incredible, possibly even better in some cases, imo. I've enjoyed building them immensely. My town is running low on space, between modulars, rebrickable mocs and my own creations. Calling a set a rebrickable moc is definitely not an insult to me (though I'm sure the poster meant it that way)
  12. I think it's legit. I'm pretty sure we've all searched frequently these last few months for the new modular, and the same images, some previous modulars, some random mocs out there, always pop up in google images. I have NEVER seen the leaked image ANYWHERE. Does that make it legit? No. But it sure seems like it, plus it features a new pigeon color and a tulip color I've never seen (magenta). And the set looks real. Time will tell.
  13. For those of us with the bank and the botanical garden, this will make the 3rd white building with sand green windows in our towns. Can't help but wonder if all the sand green were sand blue instead, that might've been a better choice. And would've been a more subtle, more realistic look.
  14. When the set is officially unveiled, I'm hopeful we'll learn something about the two kids in matching purple outfits, one wearing a band hat. I guess the band outfits would purchase instruments at the store, but all they've got so far is ice cream. The cat statue seems odd too.
  15. It's nice. I like it. But it doesn't wow me. I love the angles, and have really been drawn to odd lego angles lately, but I wonder why they built something so similar to BH so soon after. It even has a balcony like BH. Those are my initial impressions but I'd like to reserve judgment for when we see all the images. My town is running out of space, and I have been building some amazing mocs from rebrickable. I might be passing on this one. But I do like it.
  16. That is a really good covered alley of sorts. Maybe this moc has it, but any covered alley would need to have built with the ability to remove the roof for accessibility.
  17. A glass-topped alley would definitely be difficult to see inside of, and difficult for play, if that's your thing. One of the sets I'm thinking of an alleyway is Diagon Alley. I incorporated it into my town, with the buildings facing each other and made a 12-16 wide cobblestone street with no vehicle traffic. Put the fountain in the middle. Very happy with the results. But that's a wide area: buildings on left, 12-16 wide alley, buildings on the right. And that was a $400+ set too. One thing that I think about with all this alley discussion is how the alley can be lost space, and how some people will invariably complain about paying for a set with lost space, complaining it's incomplete or something. Then again, whatever the topic is, some will praise it, others complain.
  18. This is absolutely fantastic, both the building as well as the working lock mechanisms. So much detail. Poor butterfly! Thank you fo the free download on this instructions!
  19. I've really enjoyed the doors opened by boutique hotel and tudor corner to build things at odd angles. There have been more and more mocs on Rebrickable that are built this way and I really love the look of it in a town. Interestingly, my brain typically works in very straight blocks without angles or curves, so being drawn to this has been a fun experience for me.
  20. I think the last few years it was unveiled the Tuesday after American Thanksgiving, so 12/2, if that's the case this year too.
  21. Watch everyone flock to the idea that the winner will be what the new modular will be based on! For example, had the news kiosk that was gwp with Tudor Corner won the competition, everyone would think the coming modular was going to be a newspaper office. In reality, the Tudor Corner + haberdasher didn't have anything to do with the news kiosk.
  22. I don't care for vehicle GWPs because they don't fit the scale of my town, but that's just me. And I do know they complete the set for other builders. I do get a lot of value out of GWP that I can use the parts for. A few I'm thinking of is the Botanical Garden gate, which gave me a lot of good pieces to add to my Botanical Garden's flower beds. The Jane Austen set and the Books Are My Passion (I think this one was a GWP) gave me a lot of good extra pieces for interiors, etc. Actually Botanical Garden Gate & Books Are My Passion came out together, and the potted plant in the BAMP set saved me as I needed those leaf pieces for my flower beds. The Jane Austen set has a bookshelf, piano, fireplace and a few good pieces that make good art for an art gallery. I have modded each and every modular set in some way. And a lot of times the GWP give extra pieces that I normally wouldn't just order from Bricklink.
  23. Awesome job; looks great! As you said, only someone extremely familiar with the original would notice the difference. But the thing to remember is how excited you are to have these two sets included in your display. If they're slightly modded, who cares? It's your display of a fun hobby.
  24. I've been more thinking about the potential of a furniture workshop/store concept.... In the Tudor Corner, look how many different clock designs they put in there. Sure furniture is bigger, but some different chair designs, whether it's a kitchen chair or armchair. A new bed design, end table, etc. Items in progress, etc. Maybe the stairs go up to a record store, with a some 2x2 tiles to look like records. 2x2 & 2x3 tiles for posters on the wall. I personally turned my Book Shop set into a record store and did this with decorated tiles, and put decorated 2x2/2x3's on the side wall of the building to advertise not-real bands on the tiles. That little nook the stairs led up to I turned into a record-listening center the way some record stores let you do. We clearly don't know if the rumor of furniture store/record store is accurate, but if it is, I could see the above as having potential.
  25. Of the 4 you don't have, Green Grocer is my favorite; I would get it. Maybe it was the interiors, but GG seems like that was the first to have the spirit of modulars today. Cafe Corner & Market Street were just large buildings, in a way we never saw before, but didn't have a pulse to them the way Green Grocer and all subsequent modulars have. And don't take that as me not liking Cafe Corner & Market Street; it's just that the interiors from GG > present really do something for me.
