  1. This comment brings up an interesting point that I've never really understood, what makes one theme be selected for a single wave and others planned for multiple waves? I've seen this justification thrown around plenty of times before, "oh there's not enough story to justify another wave.." but that's really just a load of crap. -None- of the themes have a ton of story. -All- of the themes have a ton of story. There's no difference except what people decide to make up a story for, and it's not like any of the stories that carry some of the longer lasting lego themes are anything overly complex. Is there any real conceptual difference between multicolored ninjas fighting different bad guys for 3 or 4 waves and multicolored spacemen fighting different bad guys?
  2. Will there be a next wave? Does anyone "in the know" know if it's a one off or planned for expansions?? The lack of "squads" for the color teams does seem to invite more sets, after all..
  3. That would be an awesome way to continue the theme, definitely! Sounds like all the good guy vehicles split into different sections for mutliple vehicles or vehicles+stationary canons or bases. Interesting. Reminds me of Artic Alpha team where all the vehicles had 2 modes. Not often we get a theme with such a distinct action feature carried across the entire wave.
  4. Seriously? It's not that tiny OR that blurry, and seeing a close up of the thing isn't going to change my mind. And I -wasn't- passing judgement on the entire theme, just the one set, and I specifically said that I was hoping for a bulkier command ship, not a snowspeeder that can land on top of a rover. So all your questions were already answered ;) I even said that the other set looks promising and that I hope the smaller bits look cool as well.
  5. Appears that the sets will be primarily white with their highlight colors varying. Was never an insectoids fan, so I was holding out hope for the Squad guys. Super dissappointed with the design of the set we can see. Was hoping for a bulkier command ship, and having it be a glorified Snowspeeder with half the thing a wheeled vehicle seems like a waste when the next set appears to be a giant wheeled vehicle. Giant wheeled vehicle(vermin vaporizer, I'm assuming) still looks fairly promising from the super tiny pic... still hopeful that one and the smaller sets catch my eye!
  6. This seems to be the case based on box art. Notice how the Gator and Raven minifigs have the same dark red outline? The bad guys! While the lions and eagles have the same blue outline.
  7. What are you talking about? It could just be speeding to McDonalds
  8. It's 100% money wasted. There are costs of keeping various pages up. They figure that all the countless fansites can handle the information aspects of the line- there's money they don't have to waste. Finally, an archive, while a nice idea for US, actually hurts them. If a kid logs on to the site for the first time and sees a bunch of old sets he wants but can't buy, then what happens? Parents will resort to ebay, or bricklink, or whatever they can to try and make the kid happy. Lego makes 0 money, loses a sale for current lines the kid might have wanted, and has to spend time and money putting up even more webpages. Properties or toylines can also be "contaminated" over time- the simplest and fastest example that springs to mind is if you put a group of kids in a room full of toys, if the boys start playing with something and then, after a few minutes, the girls start to play with it as well, the boys instantly drop it and move on to something else. It's an oversimplified example, but it illustrates the point. Toylines trend, and it can ultimately hurt the company behind it if they keep it going for too long. If we see a line that looks wildly popular, in many cases it is actually past the height of it's popularity and it's best to cut and run while you can. There are exceptions, yeah, but you have to keep in mind that these exceptions are very, very rare. I'm in complete agreement that I don't like it, but I 100% understand it.
  9. Keeping sites up costs money, and promoting a line you're no longer selling is bad business. I agree it's a bummer, but it's how most toy companies operate! Underwater themes are my favorite, can't wait to see whatever pops up in a couple of years!
  10. Damn, I know this is a lego forum and everyone is just supposed to hate megabloks, but at least inform your opinions. That set you posted has plenty of parts, and ripping on it because some of them are specialized is like tearing apart lego for making TIE windscreens or car chasis. Oh, and this is what else they've been up to: It's 2800+ pieces of barely being a construction toy I saw it in person at NYCC and it was damn impressive! I could care less about HALO but cut them some slack, they're not the demon and they've been putting out some great toys for a while now. I really don't get all the hate, it's like racism among toys :P As for Chima, these have really started to win me over. Loving the Croc boat so much has forced me to look at the other sets more. I love the Ravens, I'll pick up a few of the small raven set to swarm the crocs. Still don't care for the lions, but all the bird related sets are pretty nifty. I think in general it's great to have an official lego theme with so many seperate factions.
  11. Haha! While you're right, take another look at the Galactic Enforcer! It has literally every single thing you mentioned, plus is made in the shape of a vehicle with a seperate front canopy and then a longer "trailer" part.. even the side opens the same way as Agents HQ!
  12. Agreed.. and I also think that Agents was far more distinctive (not to mention well designed) than Alpha Team. While the first wave of Alpha team may have established the concept that would carry over into agents, the sets were pretty bland and uninspiring. The following two waves -were- pretty awesome, but they weren't alpha team! Deep Sea was "just" an updated Aquanauts vs Aquasharks (and yes, it was freaking awesome), and the ice wave and it's transforming gimmick seemed like another theme that was folded into alpha team in the hopes that it would sell better. Not a single set in any of the 3 AT waves, IMO, touches the Agents HQ, Inferno's Volcano Base, or even some of the smaller sets like the helicopter vs the sports car! Space Police 3 was my favorite theme since Agents..
  13. Haha same here! There's only one set released so far, an expensive preview item Battlecruiser(show here with pieces from the SC boardgame): While not lego or megabloks related, here's a Battlecruiser I made out of glyos parts (a buildable action figure line probably most comparable to stikfas): I've never picked up any of the "official" starcraft toys over the years, because they've always been just a handful of figures before the line gets cancelled. I always figured the best way to make the line would be through something like Micromachines, and then even said to myself when Halo MB started coming out with their scenery sets "damn, if only they were making starcraft!" Flash forward to a few years later, and they're about to! My screenname on SC is the same as here, Rez and I play multiple times a week.. usually between the hours of 12AM-4AM when I can't sleep We should start seeing reveals of the MB sets in the next couple of months!
  14. I never understood the venom between fans of the two brands. I like a lot of toys.. I don't care who makes them(Unless the makers are douchebags, see 3A, Shocker Toys, etc). I loved a lot of the early Dragons lines, and the first run of Pyrates(read: not the gutted versions on store shelves now) was fantastic. That one glowing blue living ghost ship, The Dread Eye Phantom, won toy of the year and one of the lead designers on those lines was scooped up by lego, if I recall correctly. I haven't gotten any of their stuff since, although some of the massive Halo items have been tempting. I don't care about Halo at all, but I know cool toys when I see them! In fact the only reason I've held off is because I'm saving up money (and space) for the Starcraft line coming next year. If it's as great as the Halo and WoW sets they've been putting out, I'll be broke. They're also commendable as a well run business. They were hit hard and almost went under after a child died from choking on one of their products(I believe it was a magnetix skeleton dinosaur line, which was pretty great too). Halo saved them, and they've made a smart move going for popular video game licenses that, let's face it, lego won't touch. And while it seems like an obvious money maker now, it was a bold move that no one else had tried before that. Video game toys prior to MB were almost 100% exclusively marketed towards collectors. As to the comment before about sports cars, I wish the stigma would go away. Yeah, I know it won't, but I wish it would. I'm only aware of one or two MB themed forums, and since the community is so much smaller there's not nearly the level of creativity going on there that is here. Which is a shame, because if some of the crazy AFOLs that are behind lego did start building with all of the various different building lines available, I can't even imagine all the insane MOCs that could be made.
  15. The first wave of Agents is IMO the greatest single wave that lego has ever done.. so that comment has me jumping for joy! World racers on the other hands...
  16. If people are using fake accounts to support things, get on Space Marines already!
  17. Your ships might be more advanced, but I love the little Lovecraft and macabre scenes you have going on! The guy burning at the stake, Tentacle sacrafice, and raising the dead are all incredibly awesome!
  18. I know it's unlikely, but if we actually do get a set out of this my number one hope is that the helmets would be modified to have clear plastic visors, so they match the great images you've created for these. Two of my favorite lego pieces are the Hazmat guy helmet and the new diver's helmet, and I would be so pumped to see the space marine helmet incorporate this. Also, forgive me if this has been cleared up before, but are there instructions & parts list available for the drop ship? And if not(waiting to see if it gets made as a set), will they be made available in the event that the set doesn't get approved or that a different set is made?
  19. This is absolutely magnificent... it would have been a tops model of a SD, but going halfway down through the pictures and getting hit with the first overall interior shot was mind blowing. My favorite detail (if you can call something that would be an entire playset by itself a DETAIL) are the TIE fighters with the working launch rack leading to the docking bay entrance(or whatever the actual name of it is, you know what I mean)!!
  20. I was just pointing out to you a bit of a contradiction by what you are suggesting. You say they aren't comparable at all... but yet they are literally the exact same thing. Without a model to show off your ideas I would suggest being far more descriptive! Also, I know it's a "wish list" but you should try to keep in mind the real world sets & prices. I'd love sets with 3 or 4 dinosaurs, some minifigs and a vehicle or building for under 30 dollars but it will never happen. Like it or not, the recent Dino wave is indicitive of what prices will be like for any Dino based theme in the future. You can't expect a 12 dollar set with 3 dinos, sadly. As to your new set ideas, it seems that you are pushing this theme rather than present day response to dinosaurs to "near future" where dinosaurs have taken over again. The "abbandoned vehicles as scenery" bits are far more akin to something that an AFOL would do, and to my knowledge have never appeared in an official set(The closest thing might be a shipwreck, the swamp X wing or the downed Warthog from Megabloks Halo). These sound like they would make some pretty awesome MOCs (and I would like to see them!) but they would never even make it past the suggestion stage for sets. As to dinosaur licenses, Land of the Lost would be great! Unfortunately the time definitely passed for that.. maybe if the recent film wasn't such a blatant comedy but more of a comical adventure film (Like Pirates of the Caribbean) we would have had a real shot at a franchise and licensing deals. Alas, it didn't. I'm still somewhat surprised we never saw an effective Jurassic Park line. They even had the official license and churned out only a couple of really sub par sets(even for the time). I have a sneaking suspicion that the recent Dino line -may- have been at some stage of development as an official Jurassic Park line, as the fourth film has been -almost- made for a few years now. Hasbro has a shelved line of Jurassic Park toys that were developed(and look rediculously awesome) for a potential JP4 film.. I can only hope that once the film actually gets made(now on the fast track for 2014) these make it out. But I digress.. it will be an opportune time for an "official" JP lego theme, and it would be great to have it be like the Indiana Jones theme and have some iconic sets from the other movies, like The Lost World trailers and the Command Center and gate, car etc from the original film.
  21. I see a genosian starfighter those are new yes?
  22. I don't get this thread. You say you want a new dino theme and that you know there won't be anymore of the latest dino theme and that it should be something fresh. And then you suggest two sets that are nearly identical to sets that came out in this very theme? ??? More dinosaurs of any nature will always be welcomed by me. I just hope that when they do return the dinos at least keep the same design style as this latest theme, while introducing new dinosaurs. By definition there aren't too many variable dinosaur themes. The most obvious are: Caveman & Dinosaurs Theme Victorian Era The Lost World Present Day containment/research SPACE DINOSAURS Personally I'd want a Xenozoic (Cadillacs & Dinosaurs) styled theme.. but that's too unique to not be a copyright issue and it's not even close enough of a big property to get a nod at lego. Too bad, because customizable cars, sailboats, and planes with a big garage, poachers, lizardmen and a bunch of dinosaurs would make a hell of a lego theme!
  23. This! When I first read "Asteroid" that's exactly what I THOUGHT it would be.. a mini slug attached(even to the top) with a SUPER mini MF on a clear stick flying out of it's mouth. Toss in a Han with breathing mask print and a molded mynock and you have the best set of the year. Also don't get why TLC wouldn't toss a new mold into a planet set, there's a ton of SW sets with a new mold exclusive to one set, and a ton of collectible MFs have new molds that may or may not return in the future. A Kaminoan with a buildable manta ray creature! Perfect.
