  1. Have to add my voice to the chorus that lists The Twilight as the worst set. Yeah, it's a fair point that lego didn't design the ship- but the very choice to make it a set and make it such a bad one must be placed on them. The ship is ugly, but a lot of star wars ships are kind of ugly. The lego model is just atrocious, without any real detail or greeble work or redeeming features what so ever. The price is the biggest sting. I don't see how someone can have such venom for something like the cloud car(which was awesome btw) or the naboo swamp when they were some of the absolute smallest sets out there. I can deal with a small set not being the greatest because IT'S A SMALL SET! If you're asking for 100 bucks for something it better blow my friggin socks off, and the twilight gives me an uneasy and disgusted feeling just looking at it.
  2. I'm going to get this set because I dig the general design of it so much, but it will be my first SW ship since the 2004 Hoth Falcon. I'm not a very good "builder" in fact, without instructions I am pretty terrible. I am hoping to mod this ship to make a slightly- SLIGHTLY- larger interior in the back and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to go about doing this? I was hoping the space "inside" to be increased by 2X2 studs each. Just enough to add some slightly detailed control panels and the like.
  3. Someone else posted this awesome picture in this thread a few pages back.. but it is definitely worth reposting, probably the coolest picture of TLC I have ever seen: click here for legoy goodness UNFORTUNATELY as I posted in the action themes section, my excitement about unreleased dinos may have been unfounded.. the two dinos in the picture(below the silver pipe) appear to be -just- dino toys and not -lego- dino toys(I posted pictures of the toys they probably are in the dino thread). BUT there are plenty of things to actually note in this picture, the most of which being SW sets(to keep this on topic): -2 as yet unreleased fully boxed ALIEN CONQUEST sets(far mid left) -Unreleased large ATLANTIS vehicle concept(the bottom right of the Atlantis case).. looks particularly awesome, with tentacles -One of the two "dark towers" from LOTR, LOTR siege towers (to the left of Buzz and Woody) Metric crapton of Star Wars stuff- possible concepts, future sets, lego designers showing off, etc- My favorites? -Yavin Playset -Red Tie Interceptor -Techno Union ship(Include a Wat Tambor minifig!) -Kashyyyk Playset(this appears to be the most polished of the as of yet unreleased sets/possible concepts.. will be super surprised if this doesn't show up this year) -The glimpse of some unknown SW playset in the extreme bottom right of the photo.. cut off.. I love big SW playsets :)
  4. I was wondering the same thing at first- but take a closer look. There's a clear gap in the stegosaur plates where there appear to be studs. We can hope anyway! Most everything in there is lego stuff.. including some other unreleased possible future sets(LOTR Tower, SW Wookie planet, Alien Conquest 2 sets on the left, etc).. Edit: After digging around the internet I found 2 toys it could be.. It's likely the bottom one after all.. damn!
  5. Someone posted this photo over in the 2013 SW thread.. of Lego's office room or whatever the heck awesome place to work that it is. Why do you care? NEW/UNRELEASED DINOSAURS! Right below the big silver pipe thing, on the white shelf.. CLEARLY a stegosaurus (with a seperation in some of his plates where there are studs) and what appears to be a paralophosaurus behind him! LOOK!!! DINOSAURS and other fun stuff
  6. I dig it! The "Jabba's Palace" related themed sets are the first Star Wars sets I'll be purchasing since the minifig Death Star.. ie, the first SW sets in years! Someone before mentioned that it's too bad there isn't a pillar to hold up the "tower" section from Jabba's Palace.. what if we get another set, as the droid torture chamber or dungeon? EVD209 or whatever his name was and the gonk droid are the only 2 figures from the original Palace sets not to be updated.. while they are awesome as is, it would be an easy way to get out yet another "droids" set and complete the look of the Palace! ALSO- THANKS to whoever posted that picture of the lego thinktank room or whatever it is- I SEE UNRELEASED DINOSAURS!! off to action themes to celebrate.
  7. I dunno why so many people have picked 09.. to me that was a very visable drop off in quality from 08. I'd say 07 leading into 08 were the true great years in recent memory. It was when Star Wars really started to expand(Okay.. really that was more like 06 but 06 wasn't offering too much else in the way of innovation and awesomeness). 07 featured the awesome Aqua Raiders and the start of Modualar buildings, but 08 really kicked it into high gear with the Fantasy Castle and Town offerings, and my personal single favorite pick for best lego wave ever.. AGENTS! I remember seeing these on the shelves and PASSING on them, and only in the past year or two have I tracked them down.. I have no trouble in saying that they blow away every single set currently on the market.. and I quite like some of the sets out there now! Sets like the Volcano Base and the Agents HQ Truck are absolute magic.. and nothing was more dissappointing than seeing the HUGE drop off in quality the next year with the Agents 2.0 wave. And sure, Lego might have "officially" dove into Clone Wars in 09.. but if you look at all the sets in 08, they were already there ;) Plus this was when Star Wars sets really became absolutely rediculous price wise. And what other stuff was on deck..? Power Miners? ... Yeah. 07-08 was the true golden age of today! And seriously, anyone who doesn't own some Agents sets.. go buy them. Now.
  8. LOVE the caveman idea, mostly because I love the concept of dino warriors in any setting(future or past). I also want to say I really dug the elemental factions idea from earliar in the thread. I don't know why you guys think retro robots or a steampunk themed line wouldn't be a hit with kids... AFOLs would dig the asthetic, sure, but at the end of the day the sets are still boiling down to GIANT ROBOTS! Of which there are plenty of lego sets like that already. I'd argue that basically any brick built animal of the past several years could be transformed into a steampunk version and have the same appeal with kids, because at it's core it's still a big honking animal monster to fight with and eat minifigs. Mythology also seems like a no brainer.. just look at practically every other lego theme. Castles, Pirates, Old West, Adventures... it's all of them in one theme, but with the potential for every set to have some kind of big honkin' monster.. and monsters sell! Even classical ones this year ;)
  9. -A Steampunk theme. Lots of clockwork robot monsters and nifty imaginative vehicles, and a blimp base for the good guys! Lots browns and golds, with a primary color or two for the kids. Minifigs that look like the rocketeer and vehicles that look like the giant spider from Wild Wild West(yeah yeah, I know, not the best example). -A Retro Robots attack line! Think Iron Giant or Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. World War fighters vs classic robots! We win no matter what. -Trojan War: Self explanatory, the sets practically make themselves. Could easily be a wave out of the .. -MYTHOLOGY LINE! Everyone wants it and it's just a matter of time before we get one. I just hope it's not some lame single wave theme like everything else these days. One request- Keep the Gods and Monsters in it! Might seem like a given but with half the movies that come out about these things trying to go "real" it would suck to not have much of what makes them so great.
  10. I completely agree.. we need more places, or at the very least more vehicles that aren't 4 wheelers. An airboat hovercraft in a swamp with a dimetrodon? Now that's awesome. I think everyone is in agreement, we definitely need a dino lab. .. not just a dino cage like the current HQ is. I do actually like the truck that comes with the triceratops because it directly interacts with the HQ, fitting right up to the rising back gate just like the opening scene of Jurassic Park. I put a few details into my HQ, turning the tower into a security station(complete with dinos on the video feed moniters) and the empty room into a lab with bones under microscope, dino x rays(exploriens), and a small hatchery.. but it's not enough. We need an official lab set!
  11. What depresses me is knowing that these 1 hit wonder themes may never have hit their potential. In the past, when a theme started it was exciting for a lot of reasons- but one thing was for sure, if you were a little dissappointed in the execution but loved the idea, you knew there was more to come. Aquazone was my favorite as a kid, and look how great that was? We got new factions that fit right in for years. More recently, Atlantis came out- and while I had no use for 15 slightly different red subs, I was always happy to have more strange creature filled ancient sunken buildings. Now I look at themes and just wonder what might have been. I've seen people say "what else can you do with Alien Conquest?" and to this I'm shocked! Where's a real alien mothership, with a bunch of detachable small ships? Or an alien moon base? Or an attack on the statue of liberty set where the aliens turn the statue into a giant fighting robot?! They're ALIENS! I'll be 100 times more upset if Dino is done, too.
  12. My dream second wave would be entirely water centric, but that's not practical. Here's my thoughts on a new wave that keeps new molds to a minimum: -Hang glider with pterosaur. Small, simple and effective, you could just recycle the pteranodon mold and throw in a new head piece for an alternate flyer. -Motorcycle Chase with Raptor(s?)- Who doesn't want a whole pack of raptors? Just recolor the same mold again and have at it. -Fishing boat with Mosasaur- I love subs, but this is the better choice for a water set. Make a boat right out of Jaws. an updated version of one of the old divers boats, with cage and barrels. -Dino Lab- with whatever- A small hatchery(Yes, eggs!), and an X ray machine with a medical table. Each dino set could come with an egg and when you scan the egg with the x ray machine you see a different baby dino inside. -Treaded vehicle with Carnotaur- A tank, a giant forklift, who cares. Just not a 4 wheeler, since those were done to death in wave 1. Trex body with new head.
  13. Thanks for the review! After spending some time with this set, the dinosaurs are fantasitc but I can't help but feel like there were some missed opportunities with the base itself: -Lack of interior details! The set description mentions a dino lab, but it's just an empty room. Thankfully I can add some equipment myself(Exploriens dino bones anyone?) but I was hoping for something unique in this area. A little something under the two front towers would have been neat too. -That door between the "lab" and the gate that looks like a door? Not a door. - When pictures of the set first hit I hoped the panels in front could spin around from "not damaged" to "destroyed." It was not to be. -Lack of flowing, functional design. The Tower Takedown set really impressed me because of how well thought out it was- None of that here. It's a good thing the superhero sets are coming out this year, because people need to fly(or jump really really high) to get from one area to another here. No ladders, steps, etc
  14. I picked up 4 of the sets a few days ago and am really impressed with it all. I'd love to try my hand at a review but only have the camera on my phone, so photos probably wouldn't be up to par. Let me know if you guys think it's worth trying out on one of the smaller sets! I hadn't bought many legos since I was a kid, but the one two punch of Atlantis and now dinosaurs brought me back in(my favorite legos were the Aquazone etc themes, and dinosaurs are my area of study). Been reading over these forums for some months now, but with the Dinos arriving in stores I just had to chime in. My favorite set has to be the Tower Takedown, which reminds me so much of an older comic series and cartoon, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, where someone lures Pteranodons to a bell tower with a bunch of fish. I've seen this set get overlooked in favor of the (awesome) vehicles and HQ, but to me this is everything the theme has to offer in an extremely small and well designed package. Add an aquatic dino to it for even more fun.
