Tickets by ballot only?? Can you imagine how much those suckers are gonna go for on ebay?!?!

The lawnmower is fantastic (and a bit inspiring)!

Facepalm. Seriously tho, I guess that would be a good use for them X-D

I've been collecting Lego in the US for ~20 years, never had anything like this happen :-( I have had one or two instructions be a little "loose" around the staples, but never to the point of falling apart! Must be bad luck on your part 8-|

I'll be real interested to see what you decide to do (and if you do hang it, how you do, and what the outcome is). I don't have a copy of the set, and I don't intend to get one; nonetheless if I did have one, I think I'd rather not hang it... not that I'd be terribly afraid of warping or worse, but I'm just not a big fan of heavy things hanging over my head that haven't been nailed/bolted/glued into place :) Of course not having a place to display it sort of causes a need to look into hanging it. In any event, let us know what you decide to do!

Thats a great point. As much as I'll want (and try) to call them Orcs, it won't matter... however they're listed on Bricklink is what will actually stick. :-/
-
Had to go with Orcs... I like trolls, but I see the bigger one as a troll; orcs tend to be more human sized in my mind, so minifig orcs should be minifig sized. Trolls on the other hand tend to be taller than humans (again this all in my head), so therefore minifig trolls should be bigger than minifigs.

Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday. I think we're having guests over tomorrow to carve pumpkins, and we have a huge party planned for next Saturday... the decorating will be overboard (but not commercial, I tend to want to make everything myself). I've mounted some hand made bat silhouettes on directional lights, and am projecting them up into our 20 foot loft ceilings; lighting at Halloween parties is key :) Of course we all love to get really dressed up, there are always at least 2 parties a year between all of our friends, and we tend to go out to Fells Point in Baltimore (a hip bar-crawl area on the harbor) on the 31st itself... the amount of people there in ridiculous outfits makes it more than worth the trip :)

6085 Black Monarch's Castle Not only really nostalgic, but loaded with really great building pieces (soooo many smaller castles could made with this set). Not to mention a ton of figs and four horses :)

An eBay find that just made me laugh too hard
Nyundi replied to Shadows's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hmmm right down the street from me. Columbia and Ellicott City are smashed right up against each other (Columbia's growth seems to eat into EC's turf from time to time... it's really tough to tell where one starts and the other ends). Still, that sort of activity is mighty suspicious. -
Awesome thanks! Can't wait to see more *sweet*

I prefer unprinted armor, however I think that some printed armor should be available (it mixes stuff up). If 1 set out of a theme had a special printed armor, and the rest was plain, that would be great. Mostly plain is better for overall use, but you can't deny that a hero fig should have some kind of distinguishing marks!
-
I totally love the figs... they couldn't look more post apoc if you actually blasted them with plutonium! >:-)
-
I think this is amazing; plainness of the bottom aside, it's true to form, and really massive (which makes it an amazing feat)!! Great work, can't wait to see the final product! Maybe these people will purchase it! ;-)

Thanks for the good critiques! As far as the bedroom is concerned, I wasn't thrilled with the railing either, and I agree that there needs to be a little more going on up there (at least a dresser or closet or something). Concerning the minifig scale, yeah, thats a problem that I glossed over but want to revisit. The island is way too tall, and the table is definitely not right. The sink in the kitchen is another point I'm not thrilled about, and this is mostly due to a lack of inspiration more than anything! :-| Perhaps one day I'll clean up this MOC and repost (but I think it's likely you'll just see more new things from me in the future!!).

Mostly just for fun, but a bit for practice... I've been toying with the idea of building a model of my loft, but thought I'd start with pieces that I had: hence this entirely fictitious one :) Wow, thats fantastic! I love the bed/desk! (And that chair is quite inspiring!)

Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
Nyundi replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I was lucky enough to pull a marbled brick out of a set years ago (I think it was one of the Life on Mars series). I remember looking at it and thinking, "wow this is a really cool misprint". So I sent lego an email, and mentioned what it was, and asked if it was just a case of a batch of color not mixing properly, and if they thought it happened often. I also mentioned that if they could easily replicate it (note this is before they were doing this) that it would make for some great parts, and I mentioned classical columns as an example. Wish I still had the reply I got, it was so grossly stock corporate. Something like: "We're sorry for the inconvenience that the low quality blah blah blah if you'd like a replacement part simply blah blah blah." I wrote back saying something like: "Apparently you didn't pick up on the fact that I thought this piece was awesome and there's no way I want a replacement!" Oh well :-$ Here's a pic I just took of it: -
Thanks everyone for the compliments! Glad everyone can enjoy it! Actually the camera that I'm using is at least 2 years old... can't remember exactly when I bought it... anyway, it's a Sony Cybershot DSC-T1. If anyone remembers (at least in the states), it was the camera in that ridiculous commercial where four women are having lunch, and Steve Tyler walks by. They all scramble for their cameras, but only the one with this tiny camera with the slide down shutter manages to capture the shot. Anyway, I bought the camera specifically for taking Lego shots, but only have just gotten around to it. The feature that sold me on it: it has an INCREDIBLE macro lens. When I was at the camera store (2+ years ago), I tried every macro lens on my finger, and this was the only camera under $500 that could pick out my entire fingerprint. :-D

B-RV-2E Hello everyone! This is the first MOC I've decided to share with the world (I've been lego-ing for near 20 years now, so it's taken a while). TBH, I never really had the capabilities to share; I now have a largish area to construct the way I really want to, and to take digital photos with reasonably good lighting. Nevertheless, its not fantastic, and it's not my best, but I've been trolling around these forums for a while now, and thought it was time to share something of my own. So without further ado, I present the modern loft apartment! (oh, and I'm in no way claiming any such fantastic designs herein as my own... I've been looking at MOCs online for at least five years, and it's more than possible that I've been influenced by, or have subconsciously retained, good designs) This is the overall view of the apartment. On the right is the main living area (no TV here, too "cool" for that). To the bottom right is the open staircase leading to the loft bedroom, under which is the kitchen. The far lower right contains a bar. This is close-up of our lucky resident... try and tell me YOU don't want to live in such a fancy place :) An eye-level view of the apartment. The kitchen is in the background. Here is a bedroom-level view of the living area. Not much privacy in this pad! A close-up of the coffee table. Whats that for dinner? Mmmmmm sushi! The couch is a wedge shape (with three feet, two on the left, one on the right). The overstuffed colorful pillows offset the black leather seats and arms. The record player and record cabinet. Both speakers are detachable (they are held up with tiny axle parts). I wonder what's playing right now? The back of the record player. Looks like a wiring nightmare! The bedroom view. Another view of the bedroom. The bed, with the sheet turned down. Here's the kitchen... the lights are off to keep the mood (and to save a little green). Looks like someone hasn't cleaned up from preparing the sushi! Another view of the kitchen. Those stainless steel islands are wonderful for food prep! The end table, with indoor bamboo, and the record player remote. A close-up of one of the lamps, and of course our resident's primary method of getting around throughout the busy city: the bike (and of course the awesome exposed brick walls). The bar, looks like some interesting bottles need drinking! Someone installed the "ever popular" glass brick wall... guess our current resident isn't much into home de-construction projects :/ A final view of the kitchen from the bottom of the stairs.

I also can't get a single fig, I have to have the set it came from. However! once I have the set, then I've freed my mental constraint, and can get as many of the figs that came from that set without having to get more of the set... talk about weird *wacko* .

About that plate... I had that too, and so being the methodical person I am, I went back through every page... and I found where I think it's supposed to be. When you are building the dock, and are placing the 4x6 brown plate at the very end, if you look closely you'll see that on the next instruction that plate has the 1x4 under it! There's never any indication that it should be put there, and I can't really figure out what purpose it serves, but it's definitely there :)

The lighting on the main altar shots (ie the one you posted in the thread) is amazing. The model is fantastic, but the atmosphere really adds an extra dimension to the overall work ;-)
-
This is exactly how I felt... from various pics I thought it was just too "kiddie"; when I started actually playing around with one my opinion changed. Due to their large size, you can do an awful lot of dramatic looking scenes (crawling up the backside of a tower, lurking behind a huge rocky outcropping, etc.).

Although the old ones have huge nostalgia, I have to go with the new dragons. They are just seriously fun to look at; a dash of cool, a touch of hardcore... just good times. However, you didn't give the option of the best of best: the oriental dragon! (oh and btw, I'm new here :-D )
