  1. Exactly the three ideas I would suggest!! With emphasis on the third. A collectible tabletop game with the customization and uniqueness of LEGO would drain my wallet faster than anything else. I've wanted them to do this for a long long time.
  2. Gotcha! And sorry for the dupe post
  3. Ah well! Mods feel free to close this one then! Sorry!
  4. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet (a quick scan of the recent topics suggested not). Seems that the new uber chess set is available for pre-order from S@H now $200.00 USD, 2481 parts, 31 minifigs (+ 2 trolls and some horses). Ships on Sept. 1! http://shop.lego.com/ByCategory/Product.as...n=233&d=263
  5. Definitely tough to choose only three... the decision boils down to variety versus maximum inter-usability (or some such word!). I think I'll go with variety (in no particular order): 6085: Black Monarch's Castle (http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6085-1) 6973: Deep Freeze Defender (http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6973-1) 6276: Eldorado Fortress (http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6276-1) Another interesting version of this survey would be to ask the same, but with the restriction that you could not select "large" sets; maybe nothing over $25 USD (original retail). Tough to really get the best bang for your buck with that sort of restriction
  6. Hmmm... apparently I'm a McDonald's promotional "Swamp Boat". I'm not sure how best to be insulted by this, but I know that I am GREAT topic! Lots of fun :classic: EDIT: What are the chances, in a bit, we could turn this into a poll? Who had the luckiest/coolest set, and who got stuck with the most ridiculous?
  7. By far the best deal I've found (besides the occasional buy-one-get-two at TRU), was at a KB-Toys (one of those places that seems to always be going out of business). About five years ago I wandered in to find that they were having some silly amount of sales, that compounded if the item happen to be in both categories. For some reason, they had a huge stock of Final Duel II (http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=7201-1). It had the yellow sticker, and the green sticker, and was in isle 3, and it was the 7th of the month, etc. etc. (ok the last few are a bit made up but you get the idea). Long story short, they were something like 50% off, then 50% off again, and then buy one get one free. I don't remember the exact details but I bought about 30 of them at around $0.60 each :) I still have most of them unopened as I'm not a big fan of SW legos I also managed to find a great deal at another discount store, some years ago, and got two Ewok Attack (http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=7139-1) for about $6 each. Also haven't opened them either...
  8. Lol I completely agree. The concept is pretty funny tho (I'll admit I did chuckle a little)
  9. Cover art for the Adult DVD: "Indiana Bones in: The A** Crusade" (mods: feel free to censor/delete if this isn't appropriate... and while you're at it put some clothes on those figs )
  10. Hi Norro! As far as I recall, the general functionality of the magic wand hasn't changed from the ancient version of Photoshop to the CS* versions... here's a few things just to make sure of: -be sure you're on the correct layer (whatever layer the image is on of course) -after selecting the magic wand check the "tolerance" level on the toolbar (top of the screen most likely)... the higher the tolerance the more variance in pixel color the wand will select: if you have a tolerance of 0 or 1, and you select a pixel, you will likely only select just that pixel and none of the surrounding ones (as photographs tend to have some variance from pixel to pixel, even if your eye doesn't see it) -if you can see the area that is being selected (the little blinking lines appear around it), but deleting it doesn't seem to do anything, then you probably only have one layer: the "background" layer... try selecting the entire picture, then cutting it out and pasting it into a new layer (one with a transparent background); now see if the wand has the desired effect (you can remove the "background" layer at this point too) Hope this helps
  11. HAHA! If you watch carefully you can see bricks flying off of it in different shots
  12. Great idea for sure! And even if they don't provide "guild" support, many of these games have ways of creating private channels or rooms for discussion... so if there isn't an official guild structure we might still be able to hack one together!
  13. And of course the victory is all the sweeter because you did it completely by hand!! (use pre-made models??? pish posh!!)
  14. Hah! I clicked on this post title expecting a MOC.... That aside, I voted 'no' for the reasons that have been stated half a dozen times already! I'm not being forced to buy Bionicle, so as long as Lego can make money with it and use some of that to make things I do want, then fine by me! And every once in a while, a really interesting part shows up that really can be used outside of Bionicle to good effect!
  15. Looks very nice! I wonder, can ProDesktop open a POV-Ray formatted file? I've not done much with either, but I do know that various LDraw compatible interface (such as MLCad) can export to a POV-Ray file... Nonetheless your hand modeled elements are very well done!
  16. Looking good so far! This is one of my fav MOC styles btw; I like working with a very limited palette of two or three somewhat related sets, and making something new that uses styles and elements from its constituent sets. I think its pretty clear what sets you're using here, and I like that. Sure it might be nice to have black doors, but neither of those sets come with black doors, so making it work without is part of the challenge! (and the black doors are just an example, as they were mentioned) *sweet*
  17. Congrats to all the winners!! Good job by everyone all around *sweet*
  18. Photoshop actually. I used old M-Tron sets as reference and whipped up the background using a bunch of filters and gradients (and of course yanked the logo from some instruction scans). The most annoying part is trimming out the background of whatever I took the picture of the moc on and dropping it onto the photoshopped background :-/
  19. Here's my entry, the Mag-Miner! Answering the age-old question of where the M-Tron got all those magnets from! 22 pieces, not counting the minifig (but counting his accessories)! The little mining pick device has a surprising range of motion, all remotely controlled by the M-Tron operator! :-)
  20. I'm glad someone mentioned this. Sure TLCs inflated prices in Canada, especially given the fall of the USD in comparison may be off, but one of the bigger pictures here is Walmart and its notorious policies of bullying its suppliers into lowering prices under the threat of no longer carrying merchandise. For a lot of smaller businesses, this can mean the difference between nationwide (or even global) penetration, versus local markets at best. The issue is complicated when a smaller business has invested lots of money to increase their manufacturing capacities to be able to supply Walmarts across the world, and can't afford too suddenly not be supported by them. So they have to cave, lowering their bottom line so Walmart can (or can not) reduce the price a few pennies. TLC is not in such a precarious situation, and good for them for not giving in to this. I imagine the difference in currency values was really just an excuse on Walmart's part to try to push their bullying policies around.
  21. This is how I feel. I have one of the smaller sets just for the manga hair :) I'll certainly pick up one or two more before they are gone tho!
  22. Not sure if this was mentioned, but there is a seller who has some of these on Bricklink now too...
  23. I'll be watching; not a fan of either team but I'll rooting for the Giants in the hopes that Eli will be able to steal a little of his brother's endless spotlight :-P
  24. Now that would be something! I did check, but I have none with the black trim on the left; I wonder if thats a legitimate (one-time) misprint, or if they are lurking about in various collections (skulking in closets, waiting for their moment!)...
  25. Great pic! That clears that up a bit... must just be a crazy coincidence that all of mine look like they've been worked on by a scrubby brush |-/
