Classic Space Era Spaceship Contest - Results
Mr_Fikou replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
As soon as I saw the MagnePulse Xcelerator I knew it’d make the top of the list! Amazing to see Spyrius in 2nd place as well. Good job to all the participants and thanks for hosting the contest! I sure had fun building my entry :D -
Eurobricks' Licensed Cozy Corners Contest - Voting Topic
Mr_Fikou replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
11 Sympatic Brick - this is pushing the boundaries of building in these little chunks. I’m blown away by how much I’m sucked into such a small model, it feels so spacious! 18 BardDandelion - this perfectly encapsulates Tony’s basement. It’s got just the right balance between being crowded and messy while still feeling large and open, likely due to the suggestion of a high ceiling with those (really nice) stairs. Love the small details like the noodle cup, cap shield and is that Ultron’s head? 26 Justus - GREEBLESSS!! Need I say more? In all seriousness: I love how much this feels like the small spaceship chambers from the films. It’s untidy, there’s exposed machinery everywhere and of course Rocket’s firearms are all over the place. And the small details like Quill’s blasters and headphones and the Groot branch are great too, I’m impressed by how well they’re integrated. Doesn’t feel unnatural at all. -
What the heck, it’s a mech?! Two, in fact? That’s whack. I would’ve never seen that coming. Great job, love the uniqueness of this one!

[CSE] Classic Space Unarmed Personnel Carrier
Mr_Fikou replied to Skandinavc FH's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
This is so unique, I’m very impressed! The textures and greebling are great, as is the overall shape and concept. It conveys its purpose very well, there’s no doubt that this is a carrier and that the thing that’s carried holds people due to all the windows. So many cool parts and techniques everywhere too! Good luck in the contest :D -
This is so funky, I love it! I’d never be able to come up with such a bonkers shape and to make it look this good is just on another level. Love the colors too, excluding yellow highlights here totally works! I now wish more people made ships without it because this is just as cool of a color scheme.

If you’re referring to the butterfly-like fellas, they’re called Memlyins! I came up with the name after my mum (‘mem’ where I’m from) said she liked them which NEVER happens with anything I create, LOL. I just threw in some unconventional letters to achieve the alien-y feel. If you were referring to the astronauts, they’re nameless :P just a few humans exploring a new world (they’re not really ‘inhabitants’ anyway).
-
I’m almost having a seizure from all these parts/techniques I do/don’t know/understand. How people come up with these kinds of NPUs is beyond me. I’m just baffled. Probably my only critique would be that it’s yet another classic space themed build instead of the more interesting subthemes out there, but that honestly is scraping the barrel with the quality of this build!
-
Thank you kindly! I guess there are indeed few alien world MOCs that depict a safe and healthy environment, even if it’s not something I was consciously thinking of when designing.
-
Love the way the rover’s attached, I’m surprised by how ‘right’ it looks. Usually I’d expect a ‘just slap it on there’ technique to look way out of place but it works well here! Cool to see a ship where the longest dimension isn’t the length too.
-
YES! I love this so much. First off it’s Spyrius which desperately needs more recognition but then it’s also this incredibly well-built craft that totally resembles the almost UFO-like look of most Spyrius ships of old. And then it completely folds open? And there’s a full-sized ROBOT inside, stored ON ITS BACK? Shut up and take my vote (if this account was old enough, that is).
-
For something made out of just this is incredible! I love the greebling and overall shape, it looks very aggressive and suits Blacktron perfectly. Color blocking is only slightly messy and that’s totally excusable with the quote above. It looks fantastic next to the GWP cruiser too, could almost be another set in a new line!

Anyone remember Hero Factory set 44027 Breez Flea Machine? Yeah, I don’t blame you. Although I really wanted to like this one for its imaginative look it just wasn’t a good set (put very lightly). Having an unfinished appearance, non-functioning functions, inconsistent colors (if any color at all) and being a downright disappointment were among the set’s most notable qualities. Still, I couldn’t let it go to waste fully: the tripod design was just too cool to not give a second chance. But some heavy adjustments had to be made. So much so that after I was done with it, barely nothing of the original model remained. Whatever it takes, right? At least I can now safely say that I’m happy to have this on my shelf! Plus, it’s another addition to my portfolio. Okay, enough rambles. Here’s some pictures. Did I mention it’s now Power Miners-themed? Yup. The grabber claw has full reach from the floor up to the loading bucket in the back so you can carry over crystals in a single motion! And that’s about it for this one, not much interesting or noteworthy stuff here beside cool looks. Keep in mind this isn’t a recent design, but I still love it nonetheless.

Thanks to you both! -
Thank you! Mine are too :D I tried my best, awesome to see it shows! Thanks! They were the first thing I came up with, before I even started working on this specific model. With the right selection of foliage colors they fit in perfectly here! Me too :) Thanks! Not as simple, it’s a flex rod! Had to force-bend it manually to have the shells line up right. The branches are also connected to these via parts with clips or 318 holes. The process was almost like stringing beads, hahaha!

This is the final product of my most ambitious project thus far. During one of my walks through town I suddenly got an image of a vast alien landscape with huge rocky mountain columns scattered about and a calm stream circling and making its way around these pillars. Since the only way I can creatively express myself is by clutching ABS chunks together, I started at an attempt to make this mental image a reality. For the record: this build is but a reflection of the initial concept, so there’s still a big difference between what I started working on and what I actually created. Still, I’m immensely proud of the result. (Sidenote: I’m now noticing the angle on this photo is quite poor. Oh well) You might’ve noticed my favorite part of the design already: there’s crystals in each of the 3 bigger rock formations! This was actually quite a late addition but it adds so much. SNOTing them together was a ton of fun as well. I used so many hinges, brackets and modified bricks it’s mind-boggling. In any case, here’s some closeups of several pretty clear pyramids stacked together. These flowers are packed with fun NPU’s too. I really adore these flying creatures too, the VIDIYO fairy wings look beautiful on them! I’ve called them ‘Memlyins’, the ‘mem’ part being a reference to my mum (=mem in our household) because they’re the first and only thing I built that she genuinely liked. It’s okay, she’s just not that into sci-fi. And to cap this post off, here’s some pretty close-ups. Also, pro tip: don’t be an idiot like me and try to build on a hexagonal base. Three grid directions is a PAIN. As is designing with Spring Green: it’s probably my favorite LEGO color but part availability sucks so bad. And I’ve not even touched upon the prices. You’ve been warned. ;P

Hi folks! I’m mr. Fikou. But you already read that in the title and perhaps my username too. I’m a Dutch AFOL and student. My main interests are Sci-Fi, gaming and Danish plastic (usually tied together by Sci-Fi). I’ve been doing LEGO for as long as I can remember and my parents stopped worrying long ago. I think they’re secretly glad I’m not drunk every weekend instead :P. My favorite LEGO themes are Bionicle (mostly for its lore and community), Power Miners (nostalgia but also fantastic looking and incredibly inventive functionality), Creator (parts packs! And pretty buildings), Ninjago (idk what they’re doing anymore but the sets are cool) and a whole bunch of B-listers like Mixels and Galaxy Squad. City has been getting pretty good in recent years too. Wait, does 18+ count as a theme? No, it’s called Icons now. But does that include the old Creator Expert? Or the UCS? Nevermind. I LOVE building MOCs. Spending money on them… not so much. That’s why I mostly design digitally. Also because I study and can’t afford more sorting space than a corner of my bedroom. Still, seeing a digital design taking form (as in, literal physical matter form) after spending a fortune on Bricklink… this world cannot give me greater satisfaction. Perhaps that is why my no. 1 ambition is and has been for most my lifetime to one day become an official LEGO designer. A major portion of the stuff I do is related to achieving this goal. It’s why I constantly try to build new subject matters and experiment with colors and techniques. I’m hoping to be able to get honest and useful criticism here and also to find new inspiration among all the amazing builds from fellow forum users. And who knows, perhaps even make a couple friends along the way! See you around!

"An extremely large and dangerous leviathan, roughly 95m long, with a thick plated exoskeleton that burrows through dense ice shelves with minimal resistance. Assessment: Aggressive and lethal - Avoid" ~PDA entry for the Ice Worm I originally designed & built this model as an entry into the 12x12 vignette category of Space Jam 2021. I was so happy with the finished product that I decided to have it stick around. The scene pictured is mostly based on Promotional artwork and the Early Access trailer for Unknown Worlds Entertainment’s Subnautica: Below Zero game. It features a small cutout of an icy area, Robin (the game’s protagonist) piloting her Snowfox (hoverbike) and dashing past an erupting Ice Worm Leviathan. There’s also two types of flora from the game: a Frost Vase Plant and a Scrub Bush. Neither appear in the primary source material, but they help balance out the scene and add some interest to the overall appearance. Canonically these plants don’t grow near each other but screw canon, it’s fiction! I can build whatever I want to! Before ending this post I’d like to highlight two more things: first, the custom-built legs for the Robin minifigure. Her seating position with regular minifig legs would look incredibly awkward, so I opted for a different route. Despite having completely different proportions to a standard figure, these legs blend shockingly well with the normal minifigure parts. Second, the Ice Worm’s mouth is able to close! I really wanted to include this feature from the official design and I’m very satisfied with the solution. I don’t have a picture though, I didn’t want to risk toppling the build while it was in this perfect position :P

Thanks! This started out as just an experiment with those CCBS feet and well, I had to use those sockets in some way! I was quite surprised how well the design turned out tbh, usually my finished products deviate a lot from the original picture in my head but not this time. That’s some awesomely detailed feedback, thanks a lot! And wow, such praise I wouldn’t have ever expected. I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to respond! And yes, the engines are one of my favorite sections too, it’s such a simple technique but once I had it laid out I couldn’t stop smiling at how good it looks. Thank you! And thanks to you too!

My entry into the Classic Space Spaceship contest is the Ultrasonic Interceptor: a lightweight Space Police II craft specifically designed for optimal speed and maneuverability during pursuit of any and all perpetrators! While the Rebel Hunter is better suited for missions where heavy force is required, the Ultrasonic Interceptor is deployed when time is of the essence. The model consists of about 300 parts. In the standard configuration (more on that later) its length from wingtips to thrusters is roughly 36 studs long. Only black, light bluish grey, red, trans-(dark-)green and a bit of white were used with the exception of the minifigure and two dark bluish grey 1x2 plates with ball joint. These are sadly an essential part of the model’s look and functionality, so couldn’t be replaced by parts in original SPII colors. I tried my best to cover them up, but they’re not fully obscured from an outside view. One Sunday morning I was looking at a CCBS foot and suddenly experienced a lightbulb moment: what if I could incorporate this piece as the side of a spaceship’s cockpit? Fast forward to about 11 pm of that same day and a nearly full-fledged spaceship had been designed. Because I’d started working on the model digitally, I hadn’t yet decided on a fitting color scheme. Then another idea came into mind: perhaps one of the eligible subthemes for the CSSC had a color combination I could use? As it turns out, Space Police II is a perfect fit for this design! I gotta say I’m rather proud of the color blocking. The black and grey segments create a very uniform look, while the red and trans-green highlights emulate the messy appearance of the original Space Police II sets without being as obtrusive (because truthfully, those sets didn’t age well). However, that’s not all! My favorite feature is the foldable wings/prongs. They utilize the ball joints on the CCBS feet very effectively! There’s several joints, hinges and even sliders connecting them to the body, allowing for plenty of neat configurations to be made. Here’s a few examples: (Wing ends folded outward, prongs facing inward) (Wings folded back and out, shorter length but much wider) (Wings folded down, prongs slightly facing down as well here) (Probably my favorite: wings folded up and prongs facing marginally inward) (Rear view: wings folded outward expose extra boosters) The last requirement for contest entries was the inclusion of a smaller vehicle inside your spaceship. As you might have guessed, there was little unfilled space left in this model; and although I could’ve settled with a simple hoverboard or jetpack I opted to go a different route. I hollowed out both engine compartments, slightly rebuilt the covers to be detachable and designed a small hovercraft that splits into three small pieces just the right size to fit inside the empty spaces. (Covers removed, you can see the segments sitting in their compartments) (Subassemblies taken out, ready to be combined) (Front segments added together, rear segment reconfigured to correct position) (All done!) The Ultrasonic Interceptor comes equipped with a portable Sonar Scout. This compact yet capable hovercraft is ideal for navigating through unknown planetary environments and doubles as an easy tool for tracking down fugitives. And that’s it! I’m very happy with this MOC. There’s very few things I could improve upon and none that I think are necessary. I want to give a special thank you to Nannan Zhang, whose stellar Imperial Voidfighter greatly inspired the way I envisaged the wings on this design. And of course to the hosts of the CSSC contest too for both the opportunity as well as their ‘help’ on deciding the color scheme!

Eurobricks' Licensed Cozy Corners Contest - Rules & Discussion
Mr_Fikou replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Ohh, so there don’t need to be existing minifigures? That does open up for some new possibilities. This was more a stereotype than anything, I know there’s plenty of funky one-off licenses lying around (especially in the LEGO Dimensions sets). However because some of these barely existed at all (like the aforementioned Spice Girls) I felt it not totally unreasonable to add licenses that haven’t been made yet. Still, rules are rules :) Yep, I got that after rereading the rules. Sorry to bother your time with my ignorance :P And thanks for the detailed reply, by the way! I appreciate it.- 25 replies

Eurobricks' Licensed Cozy Corners Contest - Rules & Discussion
Mr_Fikou replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Question: can I base my build on a license that LEGO hasn’t made anything for? The minifigure would be a recreation of a character made out of existing printed minifig parts, so no custom prints or clone brands. In case it makes a difference, I wasn’t thinking of adult/inappropriate material. I’d like to build something completely different than the ten thousandth rebel bunker, Imperial base, Venator hallway or Batcave vignette :) Thanks in advance! Edit: Nevermind, suddenly spotted the segment in the rules addressing this! Too bad. Would love to see it in a later contest though!- 25 replies
