  1. I’m a bit more optimistic about the DCU simply because Gunn said the focus was on making projects that stood on their own where people could jump in at any time. Now, in practice, I expect that attempts to make projects that stand on their own will eventually clash with the long-form storytelling. As you say, that’s just the nature of cinematic universes. But so far, the projects have stood largely on their own while tying together. I can watch Superman without having seen Creature Commandos and Peacemaker season 2 without having seen either of them. Do I get more of the story from watching all three projects? Sure. But it’s not like the MCU where if I try to watch a Spider-Man movie I need to have seen the Avengers films, Dr Strange, and the Amazing Spider-Man movies to understand what’s going on. No idea what you’re talking about with 78 TV characters in Man of Tomorrow. It’s hard to say at this point, but so far it seems to be a fairly self-contained sequel to Superman, especially compared to fans expectations that this will somehow also setup Wonder Woman and Batman and the Justice League. As for The Batman movies, while I appreciate they are more self contained, they’re also just far more adult oriented and just aren’t going to interest kids and lead to more sets like the more family friendly MCU films did and, hopefully, the DCU films do (even if they also make TV-MA R-rated tie-ins which is mind bogging when you’re trying to create a family friendly film universe). And sure, Batman has usually been gritty and more adult than the others, but the Batman especially seems to lean less into traditional action films and more into David Fincher and crime thrillers which just aren’t as interesting to kids and teens.
  2. I don’t think the lack of interest by younger audiences is a DC exclusive issue either (although, it definitely affects DC far more). Over at Marvel, they only get two types of sets, legacy sets and Spider-Man sets. The legacy sets started out as playsets but have morphed over time into dioramas and display pieces, aimed almost exclusively at older audiences, while the Spider-Man sets are the only sets really aimed at younger audiences. I think it’s clear that Marvel has lost the younger audience (except Spider-Man, who will probably still be popular with kids for at least the next century) and only sell non-Spider-Man sets based on nostalgia for the older movies. I think next year will be a telling year for DC. Superman seems to have moved merchandise and generated interest in the character among younger audiences despite the Lego mech set seeming to be a failure. (But, then Lego has also stopped doing the three mech sets per year so maybe that’s an issue with the mech sets and not Superman). It’ll be interesting to see if Lego’s research shows any uptick in interest and if they decide to risk more Superman sets. Similarly, we’ll probably get to see Lego’s reaction to Arkham sales, good or bad, and if Lego believes there is interest in large minifgure scaled display models for DC that aren’t shaped like a giant black cube.
  3. Nah, LEGO is close to restoring the theme to its former glory. Why else would they restore the Wonder Woman mold in a CMF? Because DC is coming back! But we all need to do our part. Only if Lego sees these sets sell well will they give us sets we actually want. That why I got a twelfth credit card and preordered five hundred copies of each of the new sets.
  4. IMO, they should make the GWP be a smaller set ($30 maximum) that they do a wide release of like 6 months later. That way, no one feels like they’re missing out on something essential but people who buy the set day one still get to have something no one else does for a while.
  5. Hear me out - TWO Batmobiles with TWO Batman’s, one based on Batman ‘89 and the other based on Batman Returns.
  6. So apparently Joker and Harley are playable characters in the new Lego Batman game… if you buy the DLC.
  7. If day 18 isn’t Doctor Doom in an ugly Christmas sweater, the license should just go to Megablocks.
  8. The D2C is rumored to be the Helicarrier, so we have already heard something for that, even if it’s not definite. As for the rest of the April sets, they’ll probably be officially revealed March 1st, which makes it somewhat surprising we haven’t heard anything yet. If I remember correctly, we got the April sets leaks for last year in December.
  9. “You’ll never catch me, Stark. Not in my super awesome Thanos chopper!” - Preschool Thanos
  10. Forget buying, most kids couldn’t name any of these.
  11. The tiaras on the two pieces are different. Wonder Woman’s has the tiara inset more and it doesn’t extend up quite as high. The hair is also more pointed on the bottom right side than on Wonder Woman’s hair.
  12. The hairpiece has leaked and I’m not sure why everyone is saying it’s Wonder Woman’s. It’s clearly a different piece.
  13. I mean, what else does he have in recent memory? Appearances in Harley Quinn and Creature Commandos, two adult animated shows? It’s not looking good for him.
  14. Yeah, I wonder about the possibility of Clayface being in a 18+ set because it isn’t exactly clear where Lego draws the line when it comes to comic versions of characters who’ve only been in mature content (TV-MA for shows and R for movies) recently. Deadpool is clearly off-limits while comic versions of Daredevil and Punisher were apparently fine. But it’s not clear if Daredevil and Punisher were able to be snuck into 18+ sets because their show costumes and comic costumes look distinct enough or if Lego just has more leeway with characters in violent adaptations as opposed to characters who use a lot of profanity, nudity, and innuendos. I also wonder if we’ll be getting a D2C 18+ Batman set this year. We typically get one for Batman (since this theme started, 2012, 2015, 2018, and 2022 have been the only years without at least one D2C set for Batman), but at the same time, we don’t have any set numbers for one and Lego did cut back on Superhero D2C sets last year giving us just the one instead of the usual 2-3. But the modular buildings seem to sell well so it’d be surprising if we didn’t get another one this year. I could see it going either way honestly. edit: It’s also the 20th anniversary of Lego Batman, which Lego doesn’t celebrate anniversaries for the superhero theme, except they did this time. It’d seem strange to not celebrate with a big set. Also, there’s a new Lego Batman game out, but that also might not mean anything in terms of big sets.
