  1. I may have crammed too many things into the cabin. Maybe I should have removed the lab and moved the medi-bay to the aft starboard, giving more room for the sleeping quarters. On the other hand, I looked at ISS photos for a while, and the "cramped" nature might be standard for pressurized spaces in a spacecraft even in the future.
  2. Affectionately nicknamed "Ol' Bug Eyes" by some and "The Brick Arrow" by others, the Stingray DSE-4 (MK I) is Bengal Shipyards' workhorse Deep Space Explorer. Several have been used to explore the Oort cloud for water and rare earths mining opportunities. Play features Plenty of amenities for its four-person crew. Spacious main cabin with bridge, medical bay, sleeping bays, lab, gym, and shower/toilet. Removable top hull for easy play access to main cabin. Cargo bay with large swing out doors that house and launch jetpacks. Two jetpacks for closeup comet, asteroid, and ice cluster exploration. Air-lock separates shirt sleeves main cabin environment from cargo bay. Main cabin (Child) can separate from cargo bay + engine module (Mother) and function independently for shorter missions requiring more maneuverability. Homages to 10497 I retained the innovative brick built arrow, which now points where the action is (the cargo bay doors and the craft docking line). I transformed the "beds" into jetpacks because I think jetpacks that accommodate the astronaut's life support packs are way cooler than beds. More meta than homage, I embraced the "brick built arrow" theme and made the whole spaceship look like an arrow. Officially calling it "The Brick Arrow," however, would have been a bit much. More images on Flickr and Bricksafe. Free instructions will be up on Rebrickable when the MOC is accepted. For those fond of the artistic process, I kept a build diary.
  3. I worry this means the set is not selling so well, which would be a shame.
  4. Dad jokes FTW every time.
  5. Brilliant, thank you! I like how you made sub-models too.
  6. Does anyone have a link to a stud.io file for the main build of 10497? Thank you.
  7. Good observation! I checked mine and one of my tiles has the red square maybe 2mm too low.
  8. I did bag 2 today. Thanks for that explanation. Indeed it works.
  9. In the reviews where there were closeups of the swashplate operation I could see that the swashplate has limited front/back motion, with a bias towards front, so I'm not surprised you have this.
  10. Me too. I'm hoping to work on such a MOC.
  11. Many people have complained about the scratched up canopies. I haven't opened that bag yet, but I can see the scratches. I'm sure it wouldn't have cost more than a dollar to pack the canopies in their own bags.
  12. There are a bunch of blue 3x friction pins used to hold the studded technic beams that I think are redundant. Perhaps they give additional strength. I don't get the use of the white 2x axle pins. It's really not a big deal and I enjoyed the build. The yellow arrows indicate parts that I think are odd choices given how the joined parts are secured in place later on.
  13. @Warbinator I'm not talking about the shape of the frame, but rather the use of the technic pins to hold it together. Some of the pins are needed for the gear and the ramp, but not all of them. I peeked ahead to bag two and I see that the beams are now held by the plates, which is how I would have done it to begin with. Anyhoo, a fun build so far.
  14. I'm going to build it one bag per day in the evenings. I did bag 1 today.
  15. Woohoo! I can load the parts list into BrickLink stud.io now directly from the official sets dialog. I get import fails for the following parts 973p90new2 (Torso Space Classic Moon Logo High on Torso Pattern, Inside with Ribs (second reissue)) White x 2, Red x 2 40687 (Plate, Modified 2x 4 with Pins and Thick Reinforced Supports) Light Bluish Gray x 2 I suppose I can live with that for designing MOCs !
  16. I would love to get it, but I got the Galaxy Explorer, so I don't know if I should get a second pricey one this year.
  17. Thank you @imvanya! These are excellent suggestions! 41703 in particular looks very good to me.
  18. Hi Everyone, My daughter is 8+ years old. She loves role playing with figures. While she shows some interest in LEGO, her favorite is Playmobile. I think too much building exhausts her (though she did build the Harry Potter Hogwarts castle over two days, by herself, when she was 7) and she would rather just jump into role play with figures. That said, she is on the cusp, where she will build things with LEGO, and she is very creative. I'm looking for a large set she could build with my help that has lots of figures and lots of figure playability. What are your favorite sets in 2022 that might fit this bill? She likes the usual girl things, and actually loves a lot of the smaller Friends sets. I think another thing that excites her about Playmobile is that there are video series with Playmobile figures. Do you know any similar video series with LEGO? The LEGO movies seem geared towards boys, with a ton of action and fighting and explosions - unless I missed a different type of LEGO movie. Thank you again for your help!
  19. I pre ordered it from the LEGO website. I learned that preordering was not available globally, though. I see that the set is now available at Walmart too, at least online.
