The Dark Ages are over! Martys back in Lego Town
martyboy70 replied to martyboy70's topic in LEGO Town
I have been very lucky and its down to my mum who (I think) always liked my Lego more than most of my other toys as it was constructive etc. as it was her who put it all away in storage or my collection would have been less than yours! I quite like that one myself-pretty small but there's a lot going on-they have packed a lot in. And its not off topic as the thread is here for any memories, comments etc. that anybody wants to add. There aren't that many that I don't like but I need to stop buying everything thats going cheap and start being a bit more selective. And yeah he had the castle men all getting on the plane at the Airport last night so he has no respect for theme separation! -
Excellent work-i've always loved Airport style fire engines they always just look more ready for action and heavy duty than normal ones and this has that look about it. As for a journey back into your childhood I know exactly what you mean as I recently rediscovered my old Lego and got back into it in a big way. (My threads under this one at the moment in case you want some details)

The Dark Ages are over! Martys back in Lego Town

Its been a couple of weeks worth of buying everything and anything cheap on Ebay UK regardless of release date but I'm learning just because its cheap doesnt mean its a good buy-if I'd got the Octopus thing for free I'd have felt I paid too much!! I do like the look of some of the 2012 sets and with all these Cops about they really do need a station don't they? -

Hi guys promised pics of the new stuff I had got in but its been a bit hectic and I've had more stuff come in since so I thought I would just do one post with everything thats not from the front page photos included-so here we go. The seller of the red racer had modified the driver into The Stig which I thought was pretty cool. I went a bit mad and was going for multiple purchases from sellers to save postage and basically taking everything they had cheap once I'd decided I wanted one of their items. But with some of them its been a case of quantity over quality and I think I now have a bigger Policeforce than townsfolk for them to keep an eye on. Some of the sets I've got recently have been great and have really impressed me and some are just dreadful-take the dragsters as an example-the larger "Raven Racer" is great and I really like the tool rack with all the bits whereas the blue one is probably the worst Lego set I've ever seen. While I understand it was a (Weetabix) promo and you are never going to get a masterpiece for free for sending off "x" number of tokens you would probably have been better off playing with a bit of the cereal. While I may view my era of Lego(the 80s) through rose tinted glasses and accept that not all sets that came out at that time were classics-indeed the Weetabix dragster is from 1989-they just seem to have a lot more thought put into them than some of the stuff from my Dark Age especially the early 90s stuff some of which is pretty dreadful and just doesnt seem to have the charm of the earlier stuff and the 4799 Octopus thing is just a WTF moment. Anyway my son likes them all so thats the main thing though I'm a bit worried as his favourite Minifigs are the Crooks from 7279 who he calls "the Naughty Boys" but as mentioned he has more Cops than are needed to keep them under control. -
Call him Pat (its TAP backwards)

Thanks for all the nice replies guys. Yep still having fun and bricking on! Id love to see that photo-could you put it up here? Yes its all about the imagination and my son has a great one. Some of the scenarios and role plays these sets have inspired in him have been hilarious. Who said I had grown up Its probably more 84-89 but there are a couple of sets from earlier(the Post Office is from 82 for instance) although Im not sure if these earlier ones were bought earlier or were maybe still hanging about the shops and possibly going cheap as clearance. Ive had some more new sets arrive so I will post a pic at the weekend. -

Yep when I dug it out again it was as a cheap way to get plenty of free toys quickly in my new place so it goes to show "Look after your Lego and it will look after you" -

THE NEW SETS My son is coming down today and I've went a bit mad on Ebay. So far this is whats come in and there are loads of others on the way: My favourite is the Utility Repair Lift with the Medical Plane a close 2nd. He will be down soon so we are DEFINITELY having a Lego day. -
I really cant get my head round the reasoning behind making him totally the wrong colour-theres just no need for it.

Its looking good Ryan. The Ideas book that sticker came from: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/250_Idea_Book came out in 1987 so after nearly 25 years its good to see it finally being put to good use.

I kinda like the fact that although the 7745 Train was clearly the "Buzz Lightyear" that year my other sets are still dotted around being played with and have not ended up under the bed and become "Woodys" Thanks Zeon getting back into Lego and introducing it to my son has been amazing. -
I like the walls-they look like big wafers.

Found this of me playing with the old girl back in the day(XMAS 88)

I know its bad etiquette to double post but I thought this was worth the bump. I recently posted this thread to show some pics of my old Lego which me and my son had built. When my mum visits its usually when my sons here so that she gets to see both of us(I know its really just to see him if I'm honest ) Anyway I showed her this thread to let her see it all built up and set out as he has usually reconfigured it due to play. She saw the one of my son and and went "Oh I have a picture of you thats just like that" So I was round at hers for dinner tonight and she produced the photo and another so I scanned them. I originally posted this of my son playing with my 7745 trainset a couple of weeks back: And tonight I scanned this(forgive the hair, clothes and decor-it was THE 80S people) The pic is dated on the back Xmas 1988 so I would have been about to turn 12 the following February and the pic was taken after I built it up on Christmas Day and you can see some of my other sets dotted about. I thought I would post it to show the longevity of Lego as that me and my son playing with the same bricks almost 23 years apart. Lego should use them in an advert. This is me on Christmas morning beginning to build it(the same disclaimer as above applies as the hair and jammies are even worse as I'm just out of bed) -
Mine is 19993 so obviously no set for that but if I remove the last digit I get a threesome(I wish) A cool little Classic Space collection.

^^^Ive managed to include my reply in the quote OOPS What do critics know anyway-Cars 2 had some terrible reviews but its far from a terrible film and like so many Pixar films has multiple levels which are only revealed after multiple viewings. Its brought in well over half a billion dollars and the DVD and BD releases will likely at least double this.

To see just how incredible a job Dfenz has made of this compare this : with this: An absolutely phenomenal build.

Yeah peeron has been very flaky for the last couple of days. You can download a full good quality PDF here: http://www.worldbricks.com/lego/lego-instructions/by-number/7700-7799/7777-trains-idea-book.html

Help with identifying parts/sets!
martyboy70 replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This might not be the right place to ask this but it is piece related. Is there a site or a program where you could enter the set numbers that you have and know are complete and it would compare pieces and give you a list of other sets that you have all the required pieces to build?
