  1. It will be obvious for most AFOL's on which set I based this Classic Castle MOC. It made sense since I think 6276 Eldorado Fortress and my 6086 Black Knight's Castle are the sets that make the best use of this raised baseplate. I made some slight adjustments, such as a wider pier, a winch to control the cargo crane and an interior for the gatehouse building. I added two ships, the smaller one based on 6018 Battle Dragon and the larger one on an alternate model LEGO provided with 6085 Black Monarch's Castle. Yes, that's an 80's build with about 90% SNOT technique These three builds apart aren’t all that impressive but together they created a nice little scene. 2. Raised baseplates deserve more love. I am still crazy about 6086 Black Knight's Castle, build on the one that got the derogatory CRAPP nickname. Yes, raised baseplates present a challenge, but isn't that wat building Lego is also about? I like to take hints from the past to invent my own stuff. As pointed out before, this particular baseplate was used in 6091 King Leo's Castle (2000) and 10176 Royal King's Castle (2006), both from KKI. A close variant appeared in 87871 Castle of Morcia (2004) from KKII. To think more out of the (castle) box: 4990 Rock Raiders HQ (1999) was build on a similar baseplate. And then there's 5986 Amazon Ancient Ruins (1999) with a river instead of a pathway and four booby traps, 7419 Dragon Fortress (2003) set in the east (there's a comprehensive Eurobricks review right here) and 4748 Mission Deep Freeze (2004), a skull shaped mining base. You could try to 'castlize' one of those (and in the course improve upon them because I only really seemed to like the Dragon Fortress )
  3. Although I'm not the biggest fan of the modern style of Lego building, I really like this MOC. It neatly ties the traditional Wolfpack color scheme and that indeed iconic coat of arms with newer building techniques. It's also very inspirational to build something similar, although I probably couldn't resist throwing in a BURP and LURP for old times' sake
  4. I was in the same position, owned 6086 and not 6081, so I probably can't appreciate it to the fullest but honestly I'm not really impressed with it. The chapel in the front is fun and the tree in the back gives a nod to the future but the sides especially look kind of weak to me. Compared to 6086, which is built on the exact same baseplate and does use 20% more parts, I don't think it comes even close. Just my two cents, off course!
  5. I was too young to have experienced them live and even I think of them like that :-D
  6. Thanks! I did watch a few of those for inspiration. Thank you for the kind words! The balance between realism and playability is never easy. Luckily Lego Town already made up a set of rules. Thank god it is perfectly normal over here to have houses which are open on the back side and only feature a table and a bed :-) And yes, my kids also enjoy driving the cars around the streets and in and out of the garages :-)
  7. The Black Knight has hidden his treasure deep inside his seemingly impregnable fortress. It is guarded by spearmen, archers and knights, overlooking the land from their high towers and thick walls. Anyone trying to steal the Black Knight’s gold is captured and locked in prison. But the Wolfpack have a secret weapon: the blacksmith is letting them in through his secret back entrance! This is the 48 x 48 studs Black Knight's Treasure Fortress, with plenty of inspiration from those classic late eighties, early nineties castles: bridge tower from 6086, corner towers from 6085, split staircase from 6080. I added some of my own creations, such as two separate prison cells, three stables, a blacksmith's shop with secret entrance, a keep which can be closed in case the castle should fall. I put a revolving catapult on top of the Technic gear mechanism which operates the main bridge (which is why there are no strings attached to it). 8. On the verge of a new lockdown I asked my uncle if I could borrow his old Lego collection. I got three big plastic boxes filled with a mixture of 70’s and 80’s Lego, newer 2000’s Lego and off course metal race cars, Playmobil and other plastic toys. Sorting everything out already took me almost a full day. I even discovered some of the prehistoric armless minifigs. With all instructions missing, only the printed bricks gave me some clues as to which sets I could build. 6362 Post Office, 675 Snack Bar, 361 Garage, 6384 Police Station, 6382 Fire Station, 6367 Semi Truck, 6658 Bulldozer, 6601 Ice Cream Cart and 6606 Road Repair were all complete or nearly complete. I adapted 377 Shell Service Station a bit. Although I am pretty sure that my uncle also had 6373 Motorcycle Shop, I didn’t find the red windows and doors for that one. To these sets I added a bunch of MOCs using the leftover pieces: some houses, a hair dresser which was clearly inspired by one of the early Idea Books, a Shell tow truck, a small blue car, a backhoe grader and articulated dumper truck, an adaptation of the bus from 379 Bus Station and a red and black warehouse with white gates which I really like. The hotel in the back uses some more modern police station pieces like the white posts and the high windows. More detailed pictures on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/192350640@N05/ I’ve lurked around on this forum a few times already and always liked watching those classic or vintage Castle, Town and Space scenes. Hope you guys enjoy my little Uncletown just as much!
