Thanks! I have already some bluecoats lined up to man the ship. Right now, I am in the middle of reorganising my parts collection, but when I‘m done I will order whats missing. Fortunatly, I have already the designs for the sails, that is always the worst part for me.

A lot of the missing parts in reddish brown for the hull construction of my corvette have now become available with the recent One Piece sets. So I tried a new colour scheme, this time as a blue coats corvette. I also made a few alternations to the stern and made the main deck fully enclosed and added railing. The grating design is inspired by the recent Black Pearl. I would have liked to add a little bit more yellow, as it is the primary accent colour in bluecoats sets, but unfortunately, some pieces like the curved flower stems are not available in that colour yet.

I totally get all that criticism with the minifigs, Barbossas faceprint is just terrible. I remember some YouTuber explaining how TLG decides how to incorporate Minifigures, I think it was Tiago Caterino, and basically he said the Designers work with a set Budget for every set and then have to compromise for that. So for example, every leg print takes more of that budget, as do new part molds for hair pieces, so they don’t give leg prints to certain charakters to accomodate the budget. That is why they always have a mix of differently detailed minifigures. And then there is the reasoning to have somewhat imperfect minifigures in sets to then have „improved“ versions in future sets as another incentive to by those. That is why I don’t think the Interceptor is off the table, maybe not next year but in two years and with better printing for the crew and Jack the monkey as an exclusive Charakter. The Bagend set this year had a lot if the same charakters as Rivendell and Sam and Frodo were even included in last years Barad Dur. But you are absolutely right, that is a terrible practic, TLG is charging premium prices for mediocre products, just because they can. There are way more casual collectors out there paying those prices without giving it a second thought. -

Yes, the proportions of the sails don’t look right, because they used the same ones multiple times. There is also not enough space between the fore and the main mast. But maybe it is not that hard to add another hull element to fix the proportions. -

The back of the box also shows Cotton walking on the spars, so it is indeed an intendet feature. But you can also see how some of the rubber rigging pieces are already warped. Is there a reliable method to straighten those without damaging the piece? -

Could be a Disney thing and not on TLGs part to decide when to reveal. Maybe Disney wants to reveal something big PotC-related and wants to tie in the set reveal, maybe together with other merchandise stuff. There are also rumors going around about a new movie, so maybe it is related to that? -

I don’t think it is made of copper, on close up shots you can see the structure of cracked wood. But it might be painted in a copper based colour, wich then oxidized over time. A lot of other models use a similar colour, TLGs sandgreen seems a bit to saturated compared with pictures, but I think it is the best match. Overall it would be really difficult to depict the weathered look of the pearl with legos colour palette, but the black colour overall fits the ships theme. I am curouis however how TLG might depict the Dutchman, it seems really difficult to define a fitting basecolour. Mocs and other brick models use all kinds of different colours, but I haven‘t seen one yet that depicts the ship accurately. -

Oh, I wasn’t aware of that piece, thanks! I‘m going to order some to see how they can be integrated in ships. But it could be tricky to integrate them as stable masts, I‘m curious how TLG connected them to the upper mast sections. -

Well, there is this fight scene in the third movie on top of a yardarm. That was on the dutchman if I remember it correctly, but maybe the dutchman is already designed and has that method as a feature for that scene and they put the same style yardarms on the Pearl for concistency. -

Yes, those mast pieces seem to be new, the holes don’t match up with those old ones: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=48005&idColor=2#T=C&C=2 But i can’t tell from the pictures if they have an open backside like the other mast pieces 🤔 so it could be that the masts look worse on the view from the other side. I am also a bit worried how the lower sails are attached to the rigging, those rubber pieces seem terrible for that purpose. -

At least the sail plan is accurate, but they seem to use the same pieces for both masts an the mizzen mast topsail (they are flipped so that the wholes in the sails are on different sides). They should be smaller on the fore and mizzen mast. The main staysail has the wrong shape, it should have four corners and not three, but they just reused the foremast staysail. I can’t tell from the pictures if they use the same piece for the mizzen Mast sail. The space between foremast and mainmast is also a bit to short. The backshot confirms that the part below the waterline is build upside down. -

I don’t think that image is extremely distorted. Overall I like this model, but the normal hull pieces have the same width from stem to stern. The pearl as all ships of that period get gradually thinner towards the back at the waterline while the maindeck for the most part stays the same. That makes the angle of the hull steeper towards the stern. Unfortunatly that’s impossible to recreate when using a hull part that retains its width over the whole waterline. TLGs solution was to have a less steeper angle at the stern. That way we get a pearl with „a lot of booty“. Edit: Grammar mistake -

Thanks for your thoughts! The coast guard vessel is supposed to be a gunboat and would carry a rather large caliber for its small size. They would act in fleets to secure coastal waters, but are not build for the open ocean. But you are right, for more realistic proportions I should have used a brickbuild cannon. And it should be fixed in a forward facing position. I opted for the Lego cannon and swivel mount simply because of its play value and to emphasize how this vessel poses a threat towards the bigger sloop. -

Thanks, I tried to get a similar look like the Eldorado Fortress background art. The hardest part was actually getting a clean edge on the models, it might be easier with a greenscreen in the future. -

Thanks! My biggest problem with the new lego hull pieces is that they don't get narrower towards the stern as the old ones did. The problem with constructions like these is that you loose a lot of cargo space because of the place needed for the curved and sloped bricks and plates. -

Thanks! This is the rerference I used (Figure 6 from this article): https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Cedar-on-the-reef-%3A-archaeological-and-historical-Southerly/c14a71f9e3acea56879180cf7fb554bbc3772720 Some sloops were actually rigged this way, the bowsprit is attached to the mast in a 90° angle. Because the mast is raked backwards, the bowsprit angles up. This attachement point is usually below deck near the base of the mast, but that wasn't possible for this model. I got he idea for this hull construction originally from 76208 The goat boat, wich uses the same shell pieces in the front. Lego used them for the new Harry Potter Durmstrang ship aswell and I think they fit quite well for ships of a certain size. Starting with those pieces I tinkered with the hull to get a shape where it tapers towards the back. I used a similar construction for those ships: -

Thanks for your comment, unfortunately I can't take more pictures because I am traveling for the week, but I'm trying to edit it into something nice. I am no photographer and honestly not really interested in getting into that kind of stuff, but I'm gonna keep your advice in mind. As for the scene I chose, I wanted to depict the moment before a potential battle breaks out, because in my opinion there is more tention in a standoff, then in the fight itself. Steve is flying the same colours as the armada, but will that be enough to slip by them or are they going to fire a warning shot and stop him to come aboard and inspect his cargo? When is the moment, Steve decides to act? What does he take into account? The enemy has him outgunned by their caliber, they have the larger crew, are more maneuverable and if you look closely at the sails and flags position, you can see that they even have the weather gauge, so what are Steves options? He might try to uphold the facade, try to talk his way out of this situation or surprise them, when they board him. Or is he going to change his course and flee them, as his sloop is faster with the wind? But would he then be able to make his delivery in time? So there is some thought put into the position of the ships, but you are right, a battle scene might have more spectacle. In the past years, i have mostly build larger ships with more masts, sails, decks and guns, so this time, I wanted to focus on something smaller and a lot more common to the period, than large ships fighting. -
The factions are at war! The imperial bluecoats try to establish a strong base in the new world, but get constantly into conflicts with the armada, who were the first to discover these rich new shores. Therefore, the bluecoats have declared war against the armada. Amidst this chaos ly great opportunities for all kinds of shady entepreneurs, like corsairs, privateers or pirates. One of them is Steve, smugler by trade, who has been tasked to deliver weapons to rebel islanders. But will he be stopped by the ever vigilant gunboats of the armada coast guard? Steve is flying the same colours as the armada, but is that going to be enough to slip by them or are they going to fire a warning shot and stop him to come aboard and inspect his cargo? When is the moment, Steve decides to act? What does he take into account? But would he then be able to make his delivery in time? Caught by the Armada Coast Guard Lego Bermuda Sloop and Gunboat Steves Ship is my interpreation of the classic small merchant vessel as a bermuda sloop. The color scheme of the armada gunboat is inspired by the original armada flagship. I only used original Lego sails, down the line I'd like to create some better fitting custom ones, but I don't have enough time for that before the contest ends. For those sails, the armada one will have blue stripes instead of the red ones. There are some play features to those ships, Steves sloop has to stud shooters as swivel guns and the sails of both ships are fully posable. The cabin canopy of the sloop can easily be removed for access and the rudder is moved by the tillar. The mast of the gunboat can be foldet down, maybe it was hit by a luck canon shot or it is just for passing under a bridge? Here are a few more photos of the two ships: Lego Bermuda Sloop and Gunboat Lego Bermuda Sloop and Gunboat Lego Bermuda Sloop and Gunboat Lego Bermuda Sloop and Gunboat Lego Bermuda Sloop and Gunboat Lego Bermuda Sloop and Gunboat Lego Bermuda Sloop and Gunboat I am going to try to edit a presentation picture with a better background, but I won't be able to make changes to the build before the contest ends.

Thanks! I saw your project for this amazing set: I am absolutely impressed by your plans to enhance this build and your moc-up for the dragon-sized dungeon is already quite impressive aswell. If you'd like, I could send you my stud.io file, if you want to "repair" your tower in a similar way.

I have build this ship now with real bricks (actually, quite some time ago in march...) and here are a few pictures. I still need a better camera setup, so here it is on top of my shelf. I also need a better way to make the sails, because ironing resultet in them having this dirty residue.
