LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
azanderk replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Might get a look at the UCS AT-AT. That should be a pretty big announcement when made and if it launches in the fall, August reveal could make sense. -
Hmm, I don't know why I didn't get a notification of your reply, I came to ask for final pictures! Happy it turned out well and appreciate your feedback. Yes, the last photo is the correct alignment, I definitely think the attachment could be strengthened if you wanted to, the design thought was to make it easier to remove for cleaning as you mentioned. Each exterior segment is removable to make it easier for cleaning (and assembly), but the drawback is that those panels have more range of motion due to the hinges, making alignment more difficult than the rest of the model. Happy everything turned out well though! I was able to score some great local deals on bulk and have been slowly sorting through everything, hopefully I have bolstered my part bins enough to begin on my next MOC. For reference, here is a shot of mine. Ignore the extra set of pins, I never removed them.
-
Falling off when? If they are falling off, the angles you are attaching them must be off. Both panels have multiple connection points, and the bottom panel also rests on the bottom engine (for additional support). The model is fully swooshable (and I've knocked it over twice) and I've never had any issues with those panels falling off. I wonder what is preventing them from attaching properly.

Looking at my model, its a mistake on my end. My model is slightly different as I tried to optimize the build during the conversion to digital. The DBG 1x2 Brick on the engine panel needs to be replaced with a 1x2 jumper on top of a 1x2 plate (any color). That will resolve the issue. I'll update the drawings accordingly. Same will need to be done on the other side. Sorry!
-
Happy to help! This should help explain.
-
Yeah, without the front plates on, the front landing gear is not as strong. The side plates are solid and carry most of the structure towards the front, which is why I choose to put the side plates before the landing gear in the instructions.
-
No problem, I apologize for the delay, the one time I was away from my studio! I also updated the drawings on Rebrickable as well. Send along photos when you're done!

I've figured out the issue, there are too many pins on the frame, there is an extra pin on the top and bottom that are hitting a panel seam, see the circled parts below. These pins need to be removed. Apologies for the mistake, I understand the frustration! The side panels for 699 and 714 are tricky, mostly due to making sure everything is at the right angle with the hinges. I'll play around with the design, maybe I need to add additional pieces to the back of the panel to act as a template for the proper hinge angle.

So there is one $30 set still not revealed correct, 75319? Could this be a 501st style super battle pack? -
Apologies, I have been away from the internet and just seeing these. I’ll have access to my studio file tonight and I’ll take a look. I will make any modifications to the plans and re-upload.

Awesome! Let me know if you have any other feedback. I'll have to think about a way to address that, I know a lot of people will use the Easy Buy option on Bricklink. I'm not a huge fan of Easy Buy. Easy Buy will select the least amount of vendors to buy from, not always the most economic in my experience. Because the Bricklink Wanted list is set to "not applicable" for the color of the internal parts, it will choose ones that may be available, but are not the least expensive. When I build large MOC's, I sort the list by two types first, Price and QTY. I will look to see what are the "rarest" IE most expensive parts, and search out those parts specifically and see what other parts I can add from those vendors that are below the 6 month selling average. At the same time, I will also see what I need the most of, and see who has those parts for the lowest cost and purchase there. That tends to save me a significant amount of money. I also try to order from stores that offer free shipping. Using this method, I can usually get the cost to about 70% of the Easy Buy price or less and I've built several large scale MOC's this way. But alas, I enjoy the hunt for bricks, and others may not as much.

Instructions are live! https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-57343/azanderk/ucs-hammerhead-corvette-lightmaker/#details
-
Instructions are complete. 4900 pieces, 681 pages, 1053 steps, $25. I'm uploading them to Rebrickable and waiting for them to be approved, but I can also send the instructions and parts list direct if needed. I've modelled every part that is internal in red, so that the builder can use any color part to reduce costs. The Bricklink part list will list those parts as color not applicable. Hope that helps!

Everyone saying there isn’t much to make a set from this episode and I’m over here still looking at that crane... -

I selfishly hope they include a different Leia than the Tantive version, but with their recent recycling of the battle-worn Anakin and Obi-Won, I think we will see a recycle. -

There’s a video in German breaking down the minifigs in the TIE and X Wing sets. From the video they show Luke, R2, Leia and Jan with the X Wing and a Pilot, Stormtrooper and DS Droid in the TIE set. -

I work in the packaging industry, its common practice to use a default case design for smaller quantity runs. Due to the limited nature of this item, also considering it was a GWP, probably did not justify the added cost of using a custom printed box. Line start-up and graphics work are fixed costs that do not spread well on low volume runs. -

I broke it up over two days, build most of the first "box" in maybe 4 hours while watching TV. The remainder I built yesterday, started around 1PM and finished about 5PM. Maybe 8 hours of distracted building? I really enjoyed the build. -

In the instruction book the meet the model designer has an interesting tidbit. Cesar, the designer, said that this is the first set he designed when he became a LEGO Star Wars designer in 2016. It sat on his shelf for a few years until they were ready to release it. Interesting that there could be a lot of already designed sets just waiting in the pipeline. The book also mentions that Han doesn’t hesitate to shoot first! ??? -

There was a line of maybe 25+ at the Costa Mesa store this morning, seemed like they might have had a good amount of the GWP, one of the guys maybe 10 back asked if they would have enough and the employee seemed to indicate they had more than enough and was surprised they sold out of them online.. -

I spoke with an employee at a Lego store and they mentioned the Cantina would be on sale tomorrow in store, and that it would include a GWP of Yoda's Lightsaber. The employee I spoke with wasn't very knowledgeable, but I could hear the conversation she was having with another employee in the background. -

I have to think they can design a new set in a few months with a single dedicated designed. Its their full-time job, and they are professionals with unlimited access to parts. -

Was secretly hoping they wouldn't include the main figures (Luke, C3PO, Obi-Wan, R2) as they come in sets this year that clearly look like they are meant to be combined with this set. That would have been a wild move on there part, but would have allowed for more "alien" characters. Very happy with it!
