  1. Captures the feel of the MP4 really well. Great tribute to a great man.
  2. Brilliantly done. When the picture loaded up I had to double check I wasn't doing anything wrong!!
  3. Category A: 2 - 1 point 3 - 1 point 17 - 1 point 24 - 1 point Category B: 1 - 1 point 3 - 1 point 9 - 1 point 12 - 1 point Good luck to all, brilliant entries from all!
  4. While i've only recently emerged from my dark ages, and really only spent my time lurking, I had to put in a vote for the West Brick Trading option. The other three seem like sub-themes to the Trading Co. idea, and it's already given me a tonne of ideas to help me get back into things!
  5. Just pushed a few hundred to get it over that 22K mark. Come on people and spend, spend spend!
  6. Having just come out of my dark ages, i'd have to say it is hard to resist the pressure of 'catching up' to all the things you want. I'd take the HE and use it for experimenting with your own train designs, and focus on the next waves that will inevitably come along (if you're not happy with the '14 range that is). Going all out is always VERY tempting though :)
  7. 1. No 2. Not Applicable 3. Yes 4. Yes (mine wouldn't be much better!) 5. Engineer, science officer or similar role. Edit -- This sort of technical/analytical role would be my ideal job on a starship! Looking forward to joining in one of these games, lurked for too long!
  8. Thanks for the welcome everybody. :) KartoffelViking - Yeah, once I got it home I absolutely had to get into it. Had a gear wrong in the transmission, and i ended up wasting about 5 hours having to tear it back down to fix that part. It is an exceptional set, loved assembling that one. lightningtiger - I've been watching New Mannum grow, and I absolutely love the designs. It's nice to see familiar building styles as opposed to everything being as tall as possible. And i'll check out ANZFOL as well, thanks for that. Going to try and get some photos this weekend. I'm happy with what i've picked up so far, but I'm desperately waiting for an order of baseplates to cover up the benches. :)
  9. Hi everyone, my name's Tom and i'm a new AFOL out from a very long dark age. I've only just started collecting about 3 months ago, and literally stumbled on to Lego again after a few failed hobby attempts (pile of R/C and Warhammer gear hiding in cupboards). Anyway, after buying a bulk lot of lego that came with 2 complete red passenger trains and a little bit of track, I was hooked! I immediately needed more of everything, and i've spent the last couple of months going broke building up a collection from scratch. I now have two 7938 and two 7939 trains, an Emerald night, and a BNSF engine. I've also been trying to build up structures around my layout, but I find it distracts me too much from the rolling stock! Once I have something worth shooting, I'll post up some photos, but for now I just want to soak up some of the knowledge here, and hopefully give a little back. :)
  10. Very much Tesla's idea. It's finally getting credence in the 21st century! This is one company that i've seen their product in stores. http://www.powermat.com/ I think it's a great concept, and I also think it would solve a lot of the issues that face Lego collectors in particular. :)
  11. Hi everyone. I've been lurking this forum for a few months now, and as a new AFOL this thread has been of particular interest to me. I was just curious as to whether people had seen the wireless charging systems that are available for cellphones/cameras etc? A setup like this would allow you to 'park' a train over the mat for a period to recharge, or possibly several mats under parts of the layout to allow trickle charging. If Lego are considering releasing a charging station, I would suspect this will be how they do it. The cellphone versions i've seen in stores are fine to touch, they only charge when a compatible device is placed down. It would solve the kid-safe aspect that Lego have to adhere to, but it would require the LiPo batteries to work. I don't think this system could be modified to suit the AA/AAA battery holders due to their current wiring. I haven't looked into these systems in any real depth, but i think it could be worth investigating.
  12. Hey everyone, My name's Tom, i'm 33 and living with my fiance in Melbourne, Australia. I was a massive Lego fan as a kid, and was always pushing for more, but sadly my dark ages saw the disappearance of an enormous collection. :( The Mindstorms sets got me back into things for a little while, but after picking up the 2 Mindstorms droids, they went on display and I stopped again. Anyway, i've been trying to find a hobby that suited me lately, and after getting bored with R/C and Warhammer 40K, I came across the Technic 8043 Excavator and fell in love. I ended up buying a few of the new Technic sets before ending up with a bulk lot off ebay including 2 of the new passenger trains. Well, my addiction has gone into overdrive, and in the last 3 months i've just about gone broke trying to reassemble enough parts to work with (and as i'm sure you all know, there's NEVER enough). My fiance bought me the modular fire station for my birthday in May, and now i've really got the bug to build a full city/train layout. I've gone ahead and begun clearing out 40 years worth of junk from the family garage so I can start building (the best motivator for clearing space that i've ever found). I've been lurking around the forums here for a while, and I have to say the quality of some of the builders here is incredible. I love the atmosphere of the community, as it seems the high bar is encouraging everyone to do better as opposed to ridiculing people with less talent. I look forward to contributing to, and learning from, the Eurobricks community. Enough said. Brick On!
